Jinora is the first child and elder daughter of Tenzin and Pema, and granddaughter of Katara and AvatarAang.[2] She lives on Air Temple Island with the rest of her family.[3] She has two younger siblings, Ikki and Meelo, and another sibling on the way. Besides being taught airbending by her father, Jinora has an interest in books, and is a rather quiet girl in general.[3]
When Korra was allowed to begin her airbending training with Tenzin, Jinora and her family traveled to the Southern Water Tribe on Oogi to meet the Avatar. Once they arrived and stepped off the flying bison, Jinora went to happily greet her grandmother, Katara, and then told her that she had been reading all about her old adventures, and she had been dying to ask her what happened to Zuko's mother. Katara replied that it is an incredible tale, but was interrupted by Ikki before she could continue. The next day, Jinora and her family had to leave the South Pole to return to Air Temple Island, as Tenzin had only come to inform Korra about his duties in Republic City, which made it impossible for him and his family to stay long.
After Avatar Korra escaped from the compound and went to Republic City, she finally convinced Tenzin to allow her stay on his island so he could teach her airbending. At this decision, Jinora and her siblings excitedly hugged Korra, celebrating her stay.[4]
When Korra began her training, Jinora demonstrated the proper way to navigate through the spinning gates, and also enhanced them with a blast of airbending. She tried to offer advice to the Avatar, but ultimately, Korra failed to make it to the other side. After destroying the training relic in a fit of frustration, Korra snapped at Tenzin, calling him a bad teacher and walking away. Jinora and Ikki responded by comforting their father.
At dinner, Jinora was reading a book when a frustrated Tenzin demanded that his kids promise that they wouldn't grow into teenagers like Korra, to which Jinora replied that she would make "no such promises".[5]
While helping Korra out in her bending training, she and Ikki asked her about her personal feelings towards the approaching Mako, which prompted the embarrassed Avatar to launch them into the air with earthbending, though the siblings landed softly with airbending.[6]
Jinora sat quietly at their dinner table as CouncilmanTarrlok entered and offered Korra to join his task force. She later attended the party Tarrlok threw in honor of Korra along with her family.[7]
After delivering fruits for the winged lemurs to eat, Jinora pressed Korra if she pursued her potential feelings for Mako seeing that she went out more often. While Korra hurriedly denied this, she asked what she could do, pretending for a second she was interested in him. Jinora gave Korra advice on how to approach Mako based on a historical saga she read, namely how the heroine burned down the entire country and jumped into a volcano. After Ikki's advise involving a love potion, the Avatar was more inclined to take Jinora's advice, considering it to start making more sense. However, all three girls thought Pema's advice was the better alternative.[8]
Jinora is a quiet and studious girl. Out of Tenzin's three children, she is the calmest and most mature. She enjoys reading historical fiction, and also loves reading her father's journals which chronicle his adventures with Aang. She is just starting to find boys interesting, which troubles her father greatly.[1]
She also seems to enjoy playing Pai Sho with her sister, Ikki.[7]

i dunno, pema is the mother.. so if an equalist would infiltrate the air temple, her first instinct would be to defend her children (like ursa, the mother turtle duck and maybe mako xD).... from what we've seen from her, she doesnt seem to be a skilled fighter, so the airbending babies will bend the hell out of that equalist :D
Don't underestimate the strength of a pregnant woman. If an Equalist would attack Air Temple Island that one would be wise to face off against the benders actually. I don't think Pema would be as self-restrained as they.
i was just thinking about that. i think airbenders shouldent have to the head shaving thing, especially girls, it just makes it tougher to give air benders indivduality when thier are bald, (witch is why meelo has to have an oddly shaped head) i think masters should just do the arm and leg tatoos or be given some kind of unrform that only masters are given. like black belts in karate.head shaving should be purely optional as a style preferance only.
It's difficult to tell just how much of the airbending culture is going to stay the same at this point. It's been 170 years since the air temples were detroyed, and it's likely the art might be modernized over time. Likely not by Tenzin, but possibly by Jinora herself.
jinorra did say "she will make no such promises" about not becoming rebellious in her young adult years so theirs a hint that when she becomes master maybe at 20 or 30 she will tell tenzin, i love you dad but noo way! ;p and she keeps her hair as is and becomes the 1st master to do so, ^^ legend of korra looks like the 1930-40s of the regular world so perfect time to start new trends
Yes it is most about genes not bending style. If you look at carefully to metalbenders cop in the first episode(when they jump from the zeplin) one of them has yellow eyes not green
She's the only one I don't find annoying as hell. In fact, I actually quite like her. She's surprisingly knowledgable in knowing that she'll be a hormonal teenager and is interested in what I am, namely Zuko's mother. Her sister is just... I want to strangle her. Her brother is just there, really. He was kind of funny when he said "Unhand me, strange woman!", but that's about it. He has no real personality to speak of.
She is related to Zuko because Zukos grand father was Roku and then that. Means her grandpa(Aang) is a reincarnation which also means Zuko is related to Aang,Tezin,Bumi, kya,Jinora,Ikki, and Meelo
I really like Jinora! And, very ashamedly, I like her with Skoochy. At first I was like, that's so stupid. But as I was neglecting to pay attention in class I realized just how adorable they could be! Tenzin's reaction would be hilarious! And Jinora could help the orphans on the streets. hahaha I'm a shameless shipper. Oh well.
That would not happen and it will NEVER happen dumbass! This is a kids show and the Equalist just want to take away the benders bending away NOT kill them. Either you're an idiot or a troll.
Well let's think on that a moment shall we? What do the other "secondary" techniques have in common? Lighting generation, metal bending, and living-thing bending (people and plants).
Lightning generation requires a peace of mind and intense focus. A person with conflicted emotions can generate lighting about as well as a person can bend fire with no clear motivation in life (aka not at all. It is an extension of the inner fire, taking it to the next level by separating the forces of yin and yang.
Metal Bending is a clear extension of earth bending philosophy, as it requires one to wait and become in tune with the element enough to detect the pure parts of the metal that are still "earth" enough to bend, and manipulate them. It is an extension of the "wait and listen" philosophy.
Water bending focuses on redirection; using your enemy's force against them. And what better way to do that then to use their own life force as a weapon to defeat them? Blood bending is this very idea in action. Also, water is the element of change, and being able to water bend requires a water bender to recognize a bendable resource in all its forms; not just liquid, but ice and mist as well. Realizing that plants, being living things, are just another form is taking that adaptability of perception to the next level.
So what is airbending philosophy? Pacifistic, avoid and evade, give way to any resistance (be the leaf). So while sucking the oxygen from someone would be very cool, it would go against nearly all of what airbending stands for. I'd argue that flight is the secondary ability of airbending, as it reflects the idea of avoiding conflict (the "flight" in "fight or flight") as well as giving way to resistance (riding the wind much like a leaf travels through the breeze).
I agree with "Jinora". Depriving a person of air/oxygen would go against everything that Aang talked about too. He didn't want to take someone's life or even an animal's life as he was a vegetarian. He said that the air nomad monks taught that all life is sacred, so the ability to take away someone's oxygen would go against the monks' teachings as well. Flight or "soundbending" as Aburameclanhead calls it, would be better alternatives. Soundbending may be cool because they could bend the sound to manipulate voices and noices to possibly confuse or throw someone off.
Well I did read this "Zutara" historical fiction at one point, but when I asked Grandma about the validity of some things in there, she just got reallly quiet....
