Jennomite

From Avatar Wiki, the Avatar: The Last Airbender database

Sokka and Katara cased in Jenomite

Jennomite, also known as Creeping Crystal, is a mineral that grows at ridiculous speeds, usually fashioned into rings and placed over a person's finger. The mineral grows around the finger and over the body until it has encased the victim within. It is unknown if the person encased in the gem suffocates, or merely remains trapped.

Jennomite is actually made up of an edible sucrose-like substance that reproduces itself at a constant rate when in contact with any living thing. For this reason, it falls under the category of "rock candy".

It is unknown if Jennomite occurs naturally, or is specially made.

Jennomite has not been seen outside Omashu.

[edit] History

A Jenomite ring

In "The King of Omashu", King Bumi used rings made out of Jennomite, attached to Sokka and Katara, to coerce Aang into completing three challenges and freed them after Aang completed them. The remains were subsequently consumed by Bumi and Momo.

In "Sozin's Comet, Part 2: The Old Masters, after retaking Omashu on the Day of Black Sun, Bumi crunches on a small piece of Jennomite.
