History

Sister Iio prepared several children, including Avatar Aang, to bond with a group of young flying bison that arrived with their mother. She gave each of them an apple, telling them to choose a bison carefully because "a sky bison [was] a companion for life."[1] She always knew best, but she was so unaffected and cheerful that no one really minded.

As with the rest of her people, Sister Iio was killed during the Air Nomad Genocide.

Trivia

  • She wore a beaded necklace with a brooch that was similar to the one Monk Gyatso used to wear and the one Aang wore at Fire Lord Zuko's coronation.
  • Her hair was styled similarly to Avatar Yangchen's.
  • Aside from Avatar Yangchen and Avatar Kyoshi, Iio was the only named female airbender to be seen in the series.
  • Her arrow tattoos marked her as an airbending master.
  • She was actually eighty-seven years old, despite never looking a day older than forty-five.[2]
  • She was known to be very good at playing airball.[2]
