Hawky is Sokka's pet Messenger Hawk. In "The Runaway", Sokka bought Hawky with the money Toph had won by cheating at a dice-like game and a test-your-strength game. He had hoped of sending messages to Gran Gran and other far-off friends and relatives. Although Sokka referred to him as a lazy bird, we see no evidence of that; he seems to be a fine specimen of his breed and willing to deliver any message attached to him. Hawky had something of a rivalry with Momo and the two frequently got into fights. Though a new addition to the group, he seemed quite loyal to Sokka and apparently understood his speech. Toph and Katara used Hawky to send a letter to Toph's parents and that was his last appearance.
It is unknown whether or not Toph's parents got the letter, as Hawky never returned to the group, though Nick's site implies that they did, and Hawky found a new home with them.

- Hawky and Momo's enmity may be a holdover of Zuko's hawk in the unaired pilot.
- Hawky may be a nod to Hawkman - the two do resemble each other closely. The most obvious feature common between the two is the X-shaped harness with a black hawk's-head emblem across their torsos.
