The Harmony Tower is a tall metal lattice structure in the Republic City's Harmony Park,[1] overlooking a large portion of the city's northern districts.[2][3] The tower is open to visitors who pay for tickets to ride to the top and look out over the whole city. It also operates as a gigantic radio tower, and allows for radio signals to connect and unite people in Republic City and across the four nations.[1]

History[]

Harmony Tower was built in honor of Republic City's role in uniting so many disparate peoples, and was constructed with aid from an army of earthbenders who could metalbend, and it ended up being considered one of the most impressive and beautiful places in Republic City.[1]

While on their date in 170 AG, Korra and Bolin were two of the many people who ventured to the top of the tower one night to enjoy its scenery. They had a pleasant time here, with Korra pointing out various sights and attractions from all across Republic City.[2]

Several days later, a police unit was ordered to manage a traffic jam near the tower, but was soon called back to the station. These actions were broadcast on police radios and scanners.[4]

During the Equalists' attack on Republic City, an explosion occurred on the roof of a building near the tower.[5]

During Unalaq's assault on Republic City as the Dark Avatar in 171 AG, he used his power to summon enormous vines that wrapped themselves around the tower.[6]

Around three years later, "Old Dampa" remained something of a permanent staple around the tower. While some visiting figures disdained her, anyone who knew the ways of the district usually threw her some yuan or bought her dinner from one of the street food carts nearby. There were many urban legends that something bad would happen to people who did not do so, with some even purporting that Dampa was a witch or even an energybender. In actuality, Dampa had become a mere persona of a trio of street-kid siblings, with two of them pickpocketing easy marks and listening in on conversations of the wealthy and powerful, while one of them portrayed the supposed unhoused woman.[7]

People on Harmony Tower

Visitors can view Republic City from the tower's observation deck.

The support beams of this metal tower arch upward elegantly, reaching closer to each other. They culminate at a small circular structure on the top which holds an open-air observation deck, the level from which visitors can view the whole cityscape. At two places, between the beams, there are balconies, offering views closer to the ground. At night, the tower is lit up by countless yellow sodium lamps, giving it a golden glow. A red light is perched at the highest point of the tower to alert airships of the structure's location.[2][1]
