Forums: War Room Request for Operator Status Page

The IRC is an active place with many people coming and going throughout the day. However, only admins get operator status on the irc. I think this is a bad idea because, even though a person may be good at wiki editing, they may not know how to run irc very well. A person should be well acquainted with the network if they get operator status, so I am suggesting a new requests page be opened: "Request for IRC Operator Status".--  Sokka-spriteOlorin The White  Talk  Contribs  Friends 21:41, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

I agree with this. =] TAD, theavatardemotivator - talk 21:48, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
I also agree since the admins aren't always on IRC it would be good to have a few extra ops around. Carloso - Talk 21:51, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
Yes, of course. I completely agree; admins may not know everything about the IRC, so yes. But, who would you suggest having such rights to the IRC?

It is a good idea, mostly because the admins aren't always on and when they're not and there's a lot of people on, there is quite a mess! --Moph93 - talkMai Sprite 22:16, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
This is a great Idea, like today there were so many people on there making rude remarks and pretty much being trolls. Tara22 - talk Zuko's Sprite DOBS 22:22, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
I definitely agree, especially after today. The offensive behavior and excessive spam (kindly provided by said trolls) just doesn't belong here. -- Faith124 Phoenix Empire 22:31, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

Although I also think that it would be useful to have another user with Operator Status on IRC due to the already mentioned reasons, I do not think a special page to request it is necessary. Another way to select the user (because I think one is enough) would be better in my opinion. Dcasawang1 (talk) 23:55, May 30, 2011 (UTC)

I think it should be administrative discretion. --I'm The Bos - Talk - Guardian 01:23, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

I definitely agree with this. There was not one op on IRC at all today. This caused a problem. —Haybernathy talk http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff433/Toph_Lover/KataangSprite.png 03:51, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

Neutral Neutral — Till now, I have never used IRC because of personal reasons. If another user gets/does not get operator status, I don't mind. – Natsu11 · (wallNanatsu no Taizai) 03:55, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

I agree with Bos; that was what I meant. Dcasawang1 (talk) 04:12, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
But some administrators are not very well experienced at using IRC, wouldn't it make more sense to give a trusted user who knows their way around irc the powers?--  Sokka-spriteOlorin The White  Talk  Contribs  Friends 04:16, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

There is always going to be a time when an operator isn't on IRC, and to be honest, how often do these kinds of events occur? Not often that I hear/see them happen. Is it really that necesary to have an operator online at all times? Rassilon Dai Li Sprite (Talk - Teru) 13:35, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

I agree with Fath and Tara. Just yesterday there were several incidents with rude remarks to different people. Zuko-dobs-c7 Nathan Miranda ( talk ~ contribs 17:18, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
I sorted most of them. None happened today, that I'm aware of. --—Haybernathy talk http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff433/Toph_Lover/KataangSprite.png 04:07, June 1, 2011 (UTC)
