Hey Everybody!

I know I'm still new here but I do like to introduce this idea to the wiki.

While I was browsing Wikia, I came to Simpsons Wiki, they have there a "Featured Quote" section in the main page which features a quotation from the show as we do with articles and fanons on the fanon portal.

I'll start playing in a sandbox I will create and I'll make featured quotation's needs, all of them.

So we can feature nice quotations from the show, like "This is Katara, my flying sister" or "Bumi, you're a mad genius" and we can also feature long quotes as well.

Once I get support and liking, I'll start doing it.

So what's your thoughts ? --Bahjy1 (talk!! - fanon) 17:49, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Definitely a possibility. How would the community decide the "Featured Quote"? --BlackMonkey - Talk 17:54, August 30, 2011 (UTC)
We'll take suggestions, until we have 10 quotes the suggestion window is closed. We move to the phase which takes a month, we put the suggestions as nominations and every user can vote once only for one quote, after a month, the quote with the highest votes becomes featured. Oppose votes are not allowed. --Bahjy1 (talk!! - fanon) 18:55, August 30, 2011 (UTC)
While we have had featured quotes on the main page in the past, there are reasons why we currently do not have such a feature. The main page is complex combination of web design and website strategy. Compromises must be sought between what could be perceived as "cool" and useful and what will most easily enable people to find us in search engines and get what they are looking for. Items such as the featured article, for instance, are designed deliberately to manipulate search engine crawlers looking for evidence of quality content.
Additionally, you will notice that in contrast with many other wikis, we try to make our main page as short as possible with as few features as deemed absolutely necessary. This is another concession to website strategy, again for search engine optimisation. The best-performing entries on search engines will generally have fewer than 100 links on the page (the exception to this rule is generally Wikipedia). As extra page elements will require links, the obvious solution is to reduce the number of page elements.
All this makes a featured quote on the main page a bad idea. While it must be conceded that it would be fun feature for all of us, the problems with introducing such a feature outweigh its small benefit. A quote would do very little to help us when crawlers come looking for "quality content", and would force us to add extra links (what's the use of a featured quote without linking to its sources and when it was said, after all?). Overall, introducing a featured quote produces no net benefits for our strategic strength, and so I'm afraid that I'm against this idea. The 888th Avatar (talk) 00:01, August 31, 2011 (UTC)
I first liked the idea, but after 888's wall of text, I am against it for the reasons said by 888. – Natsu11 · (wallNanatsu no Taizai) 07:37, August 31, 2011 (UTC)

I never viewed the source of the main page actually, but if that would reduce the quality of SEO then ok. I just liked the idea as it's fun and gives us some more work to do, other than fanon and blog posts. Almost every single A:TLA page is fully complete and until the release of TLA:LOK we have nothing to do except for fanon and blogs. So featuring a quote (we can also feature it, but not on the main page) would be a fun feature in the wiki.

For example, we can make a quote portal like we do with fanons. So we can also make "list of funny quotes by Sokka" page, or we can even do a namespace for lists of quotes. We will make a "Quote:Portal" page which features the featured quote and gives links to lists and whatever related (blog posts about it, etc...). If that wouldn't affect SEO, we agreed here ? --Bahjy1 (talk!! - fanon) 08:21, August 31, 2011 (UTC)

A wiki is only allowed 3 namespaces, and we have Transcript, Fanon and Film. Thus, we can't have one more. We also have Quotes. – Natsu11 · (wallNanatsu no Taizai) 08:30, August 31, 2011 (UTC)
I really like the idea, perhaps we could implement it on the Fanon Portal main page? The same idea, but use quotes from fanon instead? I could have a play around with the page if you guys want the idea implemented. Rassilon of Old (Wall - Help) 08:46, August 31, 2011 (UTC)
Ok guys, while we have no space for a namespace, we can create it in the "Avatar Wiki:" namespace. Rass, I'll create a sandbos in my user scope, you can help out too :) Wanna be allies ? and BTW, adding quotes to the fanon portal seems weird to me, quotes aren't really a fiction of fans. I'll put a link here and on my user page once I create the sandbox. Cheers --Bahjy1 (talk!! - fanon) 12:41, August 31, 2011 (UTC)

Take a look at the prototype of the page that will be named (if everybody agrees) "Avatar Wiki:Quote Portal". Distribution (advertising) of the page will be as easy as ABC :

Advertising by inviting people on their talk pages.

Blog posts about a new featured quote or anything like that.

Creating as many links as possible for the portal, including on the fanon portal and related pages.

It's really really as easy as ABC! --Bahjy1 (talk!! - fanon) 13:40, August 31, 2011 (UTC)

I don't think it is needed. We already have quite a few of quotes here and we also have transcripts. It is also totally unneeded to create a usergroup for managing it, and a single user or admin can update the quotes every week, if the portal is made. I oppose to make a full portal for just quotes. – Natsu11 · (wallNanatsu no Taizai) 07:17, September 4, 2011 (UTC)

Personally, I'm not crazy about the idea. We already have quotations for character pages and various other articles and I honestly don't think it's necessary. The Ultimate Waterbender 18:36, September 7, 2011 (UTC)
I am also not crazy about it. For one, we have quotations on most pages for characters and such. We also have quote pages with quite a lot of quotes from the series, and I think a featured quote would just take up space on the main page.--Katara PL SpriteBack for Korra Folks :)  Talk  Contribs  Following  19:41, September 7, 2011 (UTC)
Sky, Bahjy was talking about a Quote Portal, and not the quotes on the main page. :D – Natsu11 · (wallNanatsu no Taizai) 01:24, September 8, 2011 (UTC)
