Bending icons may appear in the situations the proposal suggests. |

OK, this issue was discussed before, but I'd like to re-open this since I don't agree entirely with what was decided (and there was barely any discussion on the issue during the original forum).
The issue that was previously decided was that elemental icons should not be included on group pages (and I'm assuming this also included not having the corresponding categories as well). Now, I do not agree with this decision when it comes to groups for which it is known that every member can bend the same element (e.g. the Dai Li, the Red Monsoon and Agni Kai triads). We know that every member of the Dai Li is an earthbender, so why not have the earthbending icon on the page. For groups such as Team Avatar, when not every member can bend a particular element, having the icons can be confusing, but I do not see what confusion there is if every member bends one particular element.
My proposal therefore is to re-add bending icons onto group pages if it is known that every member of that group can bend that particular element. If this is not known, or it is known that not every member can do so, then the icons will not be added. HAMMEROFTHOR 18:42, August 5, 2012 (UTC)
I agree. If the group revolves around the bending element, it should have the icon.--Burgundy (wall • contribs) 19:10, August 5, 2012 (UTC)
I fully agree.WEFAang (wall • contribs) 19:15, August 5, 2012 (UTC)
That is a good idea. But what about the Metalbending Police Force, which is notable for having metalbending officers and non-benders? Should we leave the earth bender icon, or take it away? I think that suffices to a group that sort of revolves around metalbending and are notable users and non-bending officers are mentioned in the article too. The force is too notable to have the icon and categories left out in my opinion. --Icarlyftw talk to me 19:27, August 5, 2012 (UTC)
- I think in that case I would leave the icon off. Having the icon implies everyone within that group can bend the element, but if we know that is not the case, than having the icon would only create more confusion. HAMMEROFTHOR 19:38, August 5, 2012 (UTC)
I completely disagree with this proposal. Right when beginning to edit a group article, you shall see an organization infobox. The organization infobox encompasses information about the group and those in it. Take the Order of the White Lotus article, for example. The organization infobox also brings up headquarters and the group's purpose. Then the article builds on all of this information touched upon in the organization infobox, expands on how the group became important in the series and where it has relocated for one reason or another. It talks about the uniform that group members wear and what their role in the Avatar World is.
But does anyone besides me see how all of this is talking about the organization and the group, but not the members? The members of the group are completely irrelevant to having bending symbols on the organization and group articles because the organization or group is not a bender, although the members might be. To reiterate, it makes absolutely no sense to add bending icons to group and organization pages because the bending powers of the group's members are not what the article is talking about - the article talks about the group.
Bottom line, bending icons (and categories for that matter) go on character articles because characters bend elements, not the groups that they may or may not belong to. --Krazykid51 15:34, August 8, 2012 (UTC)
