I would like to propose adding a new tour around the wiki just like the one over at WikiShrek. It would include all of the wiki's main pages such as TLOK and ATLA. It would also include Korra and Aang, and the film, you get the point. We would post a link on the main page for lots of users to see when they come to the wiki for the first time. I think it would be a great addition. SixMoodyDwarves Sokka Sprite Season 1 Voltorb Is Back! Sokka-wolf-c1 22:15, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

It's a neat feature and I don't see a downside, other than adding a little bit of coding and a link. I'll support it. —AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Aang Cosmic Toph-DoBS-2 22:20, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

I think that would be a great thing to add to the wiki, I support the proposal. ThebigOfan 23:27, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

I'm sceptical about whether this idea would be effective. I had a look at the Shrek Tour to see what you meant, and within 5 clicks I was bored and closed it down. I think if it comprises policy pages, admin noticeboard, etc. then it would be OK, but including character pages or episode pages is not needed. HAMMEROFTHOR 17:45, August 18, 2012 (UTC)
I am going to have to agree with Hammer. I did get bored of the tour, and if you hover over the the Media, Community, and Universe tabs at the top of all pages, it will link you to all extremely important pages of this wiki. As for a policy tour, we provide new users with a link to the SOS editing section and our policies, so I do not think a policy tour is necessary either (not to mention, it would be pretty intimidating to join a wiki that gives you a tour of all the policy information, which is tedious to read, without including any community pages). WEFAang (wallcontribs) 18:52, August 18, 2012 (UTC)
I actually think this is a good idea. And with some JavaScript, we can make this an optional part of the page. Matey Y. (talk  A:TLoM) 1334279415.gif 22:13, August 18, 2012 (UTC)

This might be confusing some people, the tour itself would not be completely on the main page. We would only have a link to the first page of the tour. SixMoodyDwarves Sokka Sprite Season 1 Voltorb Is Back! Sokka-wolf-c1 22:44, August 18, 2012 (UTC)

Let me explain what I mean: the users won't see all the script, and nor shall we except if we are taking the tour. Without it, every page that is part of the tour would have to have the tour box at all times.
Edit: Actually that might not be necessary; however, that means we have to create separate pages. Matey Y. (talk  A:TLoM) 1334279415.gif 23:40, August 18, 2012 (UTC)
I do not understand why the tour is necessary, because everything that the user needs to know related to the Avatar series and the Avatar wiki is clearly accessible if you hover over the tabs at the top of all pages. It seems unnecessarily tedious, and I do not know how many people will go through the whole tour since it is boring. WEFAang (wallcontribs) 00:12, August 19, 2012 (UTC)
I doubt anyone would want to try out the tour; usually visitors browse through the wiki with specific articles-to-read already in mind, they would start with an article of interest, then work their way through the wiki via links scattered within articles. As already mentioned above, visitors would be bored if they are forced to read pages which we deem "interesting" or "important" when they might feel otherwise about them. Axiovatar Talk 08:25, August 20, 2012 (UTC)
I see it has a lot of fun, and benefit for us. People, especially newbie usually didn't know anything about the wiki, which they finally stopped by editing without any reason. So, I'll support this proposal: Make newbie more know about the purpose of the wiki - Avatar. Moreover the benefit to Fanon Portal: The tour will stopped at the Fanon Portal too!
@Axiovatar: I doubt people already know about articles here, for newbie. We can ignore to follow the tour, so we can avoid the "boring side" of the articles. Acer Evan Seek anything about fanon! Jet sprite 08:33, August 20, 2012 (UTC)
If people are completely clueless as to what Avatar is, then how would they even came to know of this wiki? or would even bother to visit it? Usually "newbies" would visit the series article first (LoK/A:TLA) to get themselves acquainted with the general idea because that is what was shown when they first google it. Then, they would automatically move on further into the wiki by means of links already provided in their respective articles. Let me give you an example: visitors who read the LoK page would want to know more of this "Korra" protagonist. So they clicked the link, read more about her, then would be curious about this peculiar city known as "Republic City" and decided to access its page to learn more. This process goes on indefinitely, and one could say it is already a kind of "tour" on its own. We don't need to tell people what they must read; we need only to provide them with the easiest of access to every article available. And if visitors are more than welcomed to skip the tour whenever it gets boring, then what is the point of having the tour in the first place? :) Axiovatar Talk 08:52, August 20, 2012 (UTC)
Yep, you're right. Newbie would not ever came here if they don't know anything about Avatar. I agree with the reason that you wrote there, but by adding the tour, it would give more specific information than the slider-which the slider only came across the main page, sliding the images, give the links (The rate of slider usually slow; avoid to watch the whole links)
I mean, people came to Avatar Wiki, and then watch the slider on the main page, directly click on the "Republic City" link. But, they would not watch the Fanon Portal. This is the deficit to Fanon Portal. Acer Evan Seek anything about fanon! Jet sprite 09:19, August 20, 2012 (UTC)

== Voting == Please vote on whether or not you support the implementation of a wiki tour, which would include all the main pages of the wiki.

Support

  1. Support Support — This will be a great addition to wiki. It would really help people who are new to the wiki.[ThebigOfan 14:09, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
  2. Support Support — Not directed to articles, but I think it'll be better if the Tour is comprises about our policy, film portal, fanon portal, the history of the wiki (About), and finally ended in the userpage themselves. The format will Ba Sing Se-themed, with Joo Dee as the guide, I think. Acer Evan Seek anything about fanon! Jet sprite 14:12, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
  3. Support Support — No harm done; in fact, it will be useful. Better to get people informed in a somewhat fun way that make them plain red all of our policies and articles, etc. Matey Y. (talk  A:TLoM) 1334279415.gif 14:19, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
  4. Support Support — I think it's a great idea! There's no rule against voting in a forum you started, is there? SixMoodyDwarves Sokka Sprite Season 1 Voltorb Is Back! Sokka-wolf-c1 15:19, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
  1. Support Support — It looks like an awesome idea, it'll be a great jumpstarter for new users who'd like some pointers. --user:techieberry38 (w:c:pretty cure:usertalk:techieberry38)chieberry38hieberry38 03:24, August 25, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose

  1. Oppose Oppose — Per my reasoning above. WEFAang (wallcontribs) 04:34, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
  2. Oppose Oppose — I don't see what benefit this will bring. The Wikishrek tour was boring after just a few minutes, and as WEFAang pointed out, any pages a person needs are located on the top banner. HAMMEROFTHOR 11:16, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
  3. Oppose Oppose — Per reasons stated above. (A little too early to start voting, don't you think?) Axiovatar Talk 12:34, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
Voting is only initiated when it is beyond reasonable doubt that further regular discussion will not yield a clear consensus. This discussion has only been held for four days and it did not seem to be a stalemate. There is no need to open voting already. Lady Lostris (talkHotN) 08:26, August 22, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose. I feel that this is completely redundant. If anything, the main toolbar above ever page already accomplishes the same thing, if not better, like WEFAang stated. Plus, we want to maintain a professional atmosphere on this wiki - the addition of such a condescending tour, which assumes that people are too dumb to figure things out by themselves and need to be strung along, does not add to that at all. KettleMeetPotwall 09:02, August 22, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose. It does seem awfully condescending. ― Thailog 09:30, August 22, 2012 (UTC)
Per Kettle and Thailog. I find it hard to believe that new users would need such a tour to get to the page they want, especially since the main and frequently visited pages are obviously linked already. The only thing new users need to be able to find are the policies, but that is already taken care of by a bot message posting a message with a link to the most important policies on the site the moment a new user makes an edit. Lady Lostris (talkHotN) 09:53, August 22, 2012 (UTC)

It is not about new users being dumb and having to use this. It will focus on the parts that aren't in the heading. I don't see very many links about fanon, do you? SixMoodyDwarves Sokka Sprite Season 1 Voltorb Is Back! Sokka-wolf-c1 19:23, August 23, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I do. Under "network" there is a section "fan fiction portal" which has lots of fanon related links. Lady Lostris (talkHotN) 10:13, August 24, 2012 (UTC)
I find this really unnecessary. Per Lostris. There are other better ways to do this, the welcome message is enough. Dcasawang1wall 20:12, August 24, 2012 (UTC)

It was rather an interesting suggestion, though I find myself in opposition to it as well for the reasons stated above. All the information is already present for aiding in searching and navigating the wiki. A tour doesn't even offer such features, as it forces the user to follow a set path which ultimately the user won't even finish / will browse to a page they find interesting instead. Vulmen (talkEoK) 03:20, August 27, 2012 (UTC)

By sending message within message wall is enough, after I think it again. Acer Indonesia Ask anything about fanon!Aang Sprite Season 3Korra Sprite-01 Jet sprite 14:34, September 2, 2012 (UTC)
