Flora and Fauna are varied in the World of Avatar.

Fauna in the World of Avatar has a notable characteristic in that most animals are chimeras - crossbreeds of two real world animals. There are however notable exceptions. The flora present in the World of Avatar varies from place to place, depending on climate and conditions.

There are several distinct habitats in the Avatar World, suitable for different animals.

[edit] Si Wong Desert

The Si Wong Desert holds the driest, hottest climate of the world. The desert's ecosystem is primarily consisted of cactus and a few scavenger species such as the Gilacorn, the large predatory insects Buzzard-Wasp , Giant Beetles used for transportation, scorpions and deer rabbits.

[edit] Great Divide

The Great Divide has various species due to an arid climate. This allows the survival of some creatures, such as the canyon crawlers.

[edit] Foggy Swamp

Due to the humid air, the Foggy Swamp has a large variety of flora and fauna. Hundreds of living things are densely packed into the swamp and so the swamp is home to a variety of creatures including the glowing fly, elbow leech, blood sucking insects, screaming birds and the catgator fishes.

[edit] North-eastern Earth Kingdom

Vast plains, mountains, and a few temperate forests are scattered across the North-eastern Earth Kingdom. Many habitats are available for a wide variety of species.

[edit] Tropical (Fire Nation)

The Fire Nation has a few tropical rainforests, where many animals, like the mongoose dragon, the boar-q-pine and the badgerfrog live.

Northern and Southern Water Tribe do not have flora, but there are animals able to live at low temperatures, for example penguins, tiger seals and buffalo yaks.

  • White Lotus - A white flower, famed for its beauty and for the Pai Sho tile modeled after it
  • Leechi Nuts - Small, reddish brown nuts notable for their taste and abundance. Leechi nuts are a special favorite of Winged-Lemurs

  • Bacui Berries - Berries known to cure the poison of the White Jade plant
  • Banana Leaf - Used as medicine
  • Banyan-Grove Tree - A tree that encompasses and is the heart of the Foggy Swamp
  • Cactus - A spiky "juice" filled plant found in deserts, ("juice" causes hallucinations)
  • Camellia sinensis - The tea plant, is the species of plant whose leaves and leaf buds are used to produce tea
  • Ginger Root - Used to make a type of tea
  • Jasmine - Flower used to make tea
  • Leechi Nuts - Leechi nuts also grow in the earth kingdom (see "Leechi nuts-Air Nomads")
  • Macahoni Berries - Berries which cause blindness, very similar in appearance to Bacui Berries
  • Moon Flower - A white flower that grows best in partial shade
  • Panda Lily - Rare black and white flower found only near volcanoes, a symbol of love
  • Plum Blossom - Cultivated for its fruits and flowers
  • Sandalwood - Aromatic plant, used as medicine
  • White Dragon - A plant with red-white flowers, famed for the tea made with its leaves and flowers
  • White Jade - A plant with red-white flowers, poisonous (causes rashes, fatal if not treated)

  • Fire Lily - A vibrantly red flower, famed for its beauty, only blooms for a few weeks each year

  • Sky Bison - Bison and manatee cross, Airbenders, able to fly
  • Winged-Lemur - Lemur, bat, and possibly house cat cross, Air Nomad pets
  • Hermit Crab - Crab with a shell-switching lifestyle, covered in a coat of black and white hair
  • Firefly - Just a firefly, used for illumination

  • Arctic Hen - Hen and arctic fox cross, bred for meat
  • Arctic Hippo - Arctic hippo, hunted for its blubber
  • Arctic Seal - Just a seal that lives in the south pole
  • Buffalo Yak - Buffalo and yak cross, used for transportation
  • Fish - Just a fish
  • Koalaotters - Koala and otter cross
  • Octopus - Cephalopod that lives in the sea
  • Penguin - Penguin and otter cross, can be used for "penguin-sledding"
  • Polar Bear Dogs - Polar bear and dog cross, Southern Water Tribe pets
  • Polar Leopard - Polar bear and leopard cross
  • Polar Mouse - Polar bear and mouse cross
  • Sea Sponge - Aquatic invertebrate animal

  • Bear - Just a bear
  • Bearded Cat - Cat with beard, pets

  • Buzzard-Wasp - Vulture and wasp cross

  • Creeping Slime - An algae-like mass that crawls up the walls of the sewers in Omashu

  • Elephant Koi - Enormous Koi fish

  • Serpent - A sea-horse like serpent
  • Se Tu - Giant, green catfish
  • Scorpion Bee - Scorpion and bee cross
  • Shirshu - Large, has body of an anteater and dragon like head. It has no true eyes, a very keen sense of smell for navigation/seeking prey
  • Singing Groundhog - It is a small, brown, furry rodent
  • Skunk-Bear - Skunk and bear cross
  • Sparrowkeet - Dove-sized birds
  • Spider - Just a spider
  • Turkey Duck - Turkey and duck cross, bred for meat
  • Turtle Frog - Turtle and frog cross, lays eggs like a sea turtle
  • Unagi - Enormous sea serpent
  • Wolfbats - Wolf and bat cross
  • Wood Frog - Just a frog

  • Spirit World Firefly - Creature made up entirely of glowing light
  • Hei Bai - Spirit of a panda bear
  • Tui - Fish that is the Moon Spirit, resided at the Spirit Oasis at the North Pole
  • La - Fish that is the Ocean Spirit, resided at the Spirit Oasis at the North Pole
  • Giant Wolf - Giant wolf
  • Curly Tailed Blue Nose - Seen without face
