The Chase

The Avatar has disappeared for a hundred years. In his absence, the Fire Nation has been waging war with the rest of the world for nearly a century.

In the Southern Water Tribe, all grace and magnificence were lost to a series of Fire Nation raids. The last known waterbender is Katara. Katara, Sokka, Hakoda, and Kya are happy together. The symbol of their family is an otter penguin. Hakoda's mother, Kanna, is a caring mother-in-law and grandmother.

Kanna has her own story. She was born and grew up in the Northern Water Tribe. At the age of sixteen, she was customarily engaged to Pakku in an arranged marriage. Not wanting to marry a total stranger whom she knew nothing about, Kanna ran away and settled down in the Northern Water Tribe. She left without saying goodbye even to her friend, Yugoda, hence, the purpose behind her departure has always remained a mystery. At the Southern Water Tribe, she befriended Hama. Nonetheless, Hama was captured along with the other Southern waterbenders and taken away by the Fire Nation. Kanna has known great loss and immense suffering, a tragedy she has not shared with her son and his family.

Gaoling is home to the richest family in the world - the Beifong family. Toph Beifong is a blind earthbender. She is exceptionally gifted and extremely talented with her earthbending powers. Fearing for her safety, her parents, Lao and Poppy, secluded her in their estate and hid her existence from the outside world by means of protecting her. Time and again, Toph ran away from home. On one occasion, she befriended some badgermoles. The badgermoles were blind as well. They trained Toph in earthbending until she became a master in the art. At some point, she entered the Earth Rumble VI earthbending tournament under the alias of "The Blind Bandit". Toph fought with her earthbending opponents in a sequence of matches and won her way in the competition to become its defending champion. The symbol of the Beifong family is a flying boar.

Prince Ozai and Princess Ursa are happily married in the Fire Nation Capital. They love, care for, and dote on each other and their children, Zuko and Azula. Ozai is the second son of Fire Lord Azulon. Ursa is the only granddaughter of Avatar Roku. Zuko and Azula are the legacy of both Avatar Roku and Fire Lord Sozin whose friendship from which the war began. Ozai and Ursa love their children very much, but Ozai does not love them enough to spare them from his cruelty. Behind Ursa's back and that of her parents, Ozai beats up and makes fun of Zuko, whose constant complaints and injuries do not persuade his mother and grandparents of his father's true colours. Azula hates her brother and looks on with relish at their father's bullying of him.

Ozai is raising Zuko as his true heir and Ursa is raising Azula as her true heiress.

Hakoda is raising Sokka as his true heir and Kya is raising Katara as her true heiress.

Ozai tries to proceed to Zuko's bedroom, but Ursa bars his way pleading him not to kill their son. Whatever she said was never seen in the dimension that was observed in the real world via Nickelodeon.

Ozai ignores Ursa's plan in which he would be come Fire Lord and their son's life would be spared. Ozai pinches his wife's neck, knocking her unconscious. Ursa drops to the floor, leaving her beloved son to the mercy of Ozai.

With his mother immobile, there was no one to protect Zuko. Ozai finds his son in the latter's bedroom.

Zuko awoke again at the sound of his bedroom door opening.

Ozai binds and gags Zuko. Ozai stuffs Zuko into a captivity bag and takes him to a Fire sacrificial temple, where all their relatives were gathered for the ceremony in which Ozai would kill Zuko.

But, what if Ursa had promised Ozai something in return for their son's life to be spared. Ozai wanted to replace his father, as Fire Lord and Ursa wanted her son to be safe from death.

Ursa proposes a plan in which Ozai would become the Fire Lord on the condition that Zuko's life was spared. Ozai agrees to his wife's proposal. Ursa betrays her family and their country by assassinating her father-in-law, which renders Ozai as the new Fire Lord.

For this treason, Ursa is ordered to be executed by her husband and is sentenced to imprisonment to be beheaded the next morning.

But, what if Ursa had not proposed her suicidal plan. Ozai takes Zuko through the nightly breeze to the Fire Sages Capital Temple. Zuko is hungry, thirsty, itching, sick, and in need of using the toilet. His father does not care and carries him relentlessly away to kill him.

There, Azulon is seated high at the topmost peak of the building. Around sits all the evil members of the Fire Royal Family. Ozai ties Zuko to a pillar and removes the bonds and gags from his son's wrists, ankles, and mouth. The temple was isolated and no one would hear Zuko's cries. Ozai approaches his father and kneels before him.

Azulon presents to his son a sacrificial dagger and hands it to him.

Azulon angrily said, "You dared suggest I betray Iroh after the demise of his firstborn son. Now you will know the pain. Sacrifice your own to the Fire deities."

Azulon cheers on his son to kill Zuko. The other evil Members of the Fire Royal Family follow in Azulon's lead.

In the dimension of Avatar: The Last Airbender that was observed regularly on Nickleodeon, Ozai's anger and his lust for power degraded his relationship with his wife and their two children. But, in this dimension, the Mechanist with hopes of defeating the Fire Nation had captured Ozai and Azula from their homeland using his high-level technology.

To replace Ozai and Azula, two androids, No. 10 and No. 11, were designed priorly in the image of father and daughter and programmed with their respective personality and abilities. The Mechanist sent his two androids to disguise themselves as Ozai and Azula in order to spy on the Fire Nation Royal Family and uncover for him the Fire Nation's further plans in the War.

No. 11 was programmed with the negative side of Azula's personality, just as No. 10 was with Ozai's personality. As soon as the Mechanist realized that Azulon had commanded No. 10 to sacrifice Zuko and that No. 10 was going to do it. The Mechanist alerted Ozai and Azula to what he had uncovered from the tracking device in No. 10's memory systems.

Azula was glorified when she heard the news.

Azula said, "Dad, Grandfather said you must know the pain of losing a firstborn son by sacrificing your own."

Ozai said, "Yes, the punishment has to fit my crime, or unknown to my father, the android's crime."

Azula said, "I know. Why doesn't Zuko find a nice Earth Kingdom family to adopt him."

Ozai angrily turned to the Mechanist.

Ozai said, "Your metal monster is going to sacrifice my son. If I ever break out of here and the android kills Zuko, Zuko won't be the only one dead."

The Mechanist said, "That's precisely what I came to tell you."

He pressed the open button on the remote control he was holding.

Ozai and Azula are released from their computerized prison cells.

Azula said enthusiastically, "Dad, you must obey Grandfather. You have to kill Zuko."

The Mechanist said, "Take my war balloon. You can get back to the Fire Nation, to save Zuko."

Azula said confusedly, "What? Daddy? You're not going to kill Zuko?"

Ozai said, "I'll explain later, honey."

He turned to the Mechanist.

He said, "Where is this war balloon?"

Minutes later, Prince Ozai and his daughter were settled in a war balloon designed with the Fire Nation insignia.

The Mechanist said, "I can't believe I'm saying this, but good luck and good riddance."

Ozai said, "The latter to you."

Azula laughed at her father's words. The war balloon took off into the air.

Ursa awakens from her unconsciousness on the floor of the Royal Palace. She was many miles from helping her son. Just then, her husband and their daughter ran in on the scene.

Ozai said, "Ursa."

Ursa said, "Ozai."

Ozai said, "Azula, explain to your mother what happened."

Azula said, "Where are you going?"

An infuriated Ozai rushes to save his son Zuko from death.

Ozai was not thinking of world domination and conquest. He thought to himself "Hold on, son". Just then, Ozai arrives in on the sacrificial ceremony. No. 9 turned to face Ozai.

He calmly said in Ozai's voice, "You escaped."

Ozai said, "Yes, I escaped."

Azulon realizes that the Ozai he was going to punish was a mere impersonator when he sees the real Ozai affirm whom he is to No. 10.

Azulon shouted angrily at No. 9, "You are an impostor!"

Meanwhile, Ozai was livid to see his beloved son in the current state Zuko was in.

Ozai yelled in his anger, "Don't worry, Zuko!! Daddy's going to get you out of there real soon!!"

The enraged Ozai turned to face his father.

Ozai shouted "You should be ashamed of yourself, Father. Picking on an innocent child.

Ozai demands to know why his innocent son was being punished for something he had done.

Azulon shouted, "Iroh lost his son. Your nephew Lu Ten did not survive the siege at Ba Sing Se."

Ozai was shocked to hear this. He merely said, "Oh. That's awful."

"After his son's death Iroh abandoned the battle. This impostor suggested I revoke Iroh's birthright. I thought he was you. So, I commanded him to sacrifice Zuko so that you would know the pain of losing a firstborn son. The punishment must fit your crime."

Zuko is scared and trembling in his fright. He timidly said, "Daddy, I'm scared."

Angered gravely at Azulon, Ozai laughs evilly at the fact that Zuko was terrified by the wrath of an old man such as Azulon.

Ozai repeated exactly the same words his impostor had said to Azulon earlier that night.

Azulon said, "I said these same words to your impersonator, Prince Ozai, and I say them again to you."

And so he did.

Ozai turned to look at Zuko. Zuko's eyes were full of fear. Ozai strokes Zuko's hair and spoke to him.

Ozai said, "Hey, Zuko. What say after we're done with this old geezer and the impostor, you and I go fishing.

Zuko smiled at his father for the first time in a year.

Ozai said, "You're so weak you put the blame on an innocent boy. How could I let this happen to my son. He has sacrificed everything for me and I DONE NOTHING BUT IGNORE HIM. NO ! I WONT' GIVE UP ON HIM!'

Ozai turned to Zuko.

He asked, "Zuko, is there still time to change things?"

Zuko said, "Of course there is, Dad."

Ozai shouted at Azulon, "FATHER, YOU HAVE CROSSED ME FOR THE LAST TIME! You have denied me Iroh's birthright. You have robbed of my chance to serve you and our Nation, but this time, you've gone too far.

Ozai looked Azulon in the eye and exclaimed, "You will pay the ultimate price for what you have done to my son!'

Ozai said, "Father, you have commanded me to sacrifice my own firstborn son. And if I refuse, I will face your wrath."

Azulon said, "Yes. That is right."

Zuko looked with terror at his father.

Ozai said, "I don't think so."

He walked up to Azulon's seat.

Azulon shouted "Prince Ozai, I commanded you to kill your son!"

Ozai wordlessly approached his father.

Azulon fired a torrent of lightning at Ozai, but the lightning did not maim its target and vanished as it struck.

Azulon's fury turned into fear as Ozai leaped right in front of him.

Azulon tried to bend a flame at his son, but Ozai grabbed hold of both his father's arms. Azulon looked at Ozai with visible fright.

Ozai said to Azulon "Why don't you pick on someone your own size?"

Ozai smiled sadistically at Azulon. Zuko shared his father's expression. Ozai looked into his father's eyes as he literally ripped Azulon's arms off his elbows. The frightened Zuko watched his father and paternal grandfather as the former severed the latter's arms.

Blood gushed out of the elderly Fire Lord's elbows as his arms were torn out of his body by the young Prince.

Ozai said, "You're weak. You punish an innocent child, for his father's sin. You don't deserve to be Fire Lord. But, you are. And for that, I will show mercy."

He dropped the severed arms onto the floor. After he leapt off his armless father's seat, he lets loose Zuko from the ropes tying him to the pillar.

Ozai playfully said, "So, I'm back and I don't even get a hug?"

Ozai playfully asks if he is going to get a hug.

Zuko jumps on his father, hugging him and crying with fear.

Zuko tearfully said, "Oh. I'm so sorry. I was just so scared."

Ozai gives Zuko a noogie. Ozai's vast muscular arms were so tight in their grip around his son that Zuko was trapped with playful pain coming in on his scalp. Zuko puts all his strength into a final push as he ducks down from his father's clasp, escaping the noogie. Zuko resumes hugging Ozai until Ozai buckles down onto his front.

Zuko jumps onto his father's back; hugging every part of him he could reach.

Zuko said, "Hey, Dad."

Ozai said, "Hmm."

Zuko said, "I love you."

Ozai replied "The feeling is returned."

Zuko asked, "And we'll always be together, right?"

Ozai said, "I don't see any reason why we shouldn't."

He stood up to face Azulon.

Ozai said, "You're weak. You put the blame on an innocent child, for his father's sin. Don't ever mess with a man's wife or children, or that's what will happen."

He turned to No. 10.

"And as for you," said Ozai.

He drew out the shut-down remote. No. 10's evil and ruthless face which so resembled his human template was filled with horror at the sight of the remote control. Ozai pushed the circular button on the remote control. In reaction, No. 10 was switched off and fell into shut-down mode.

Ozai addressed his father again.

Ozai said, "I'll deal with you later."

With that, he picked up Zuko in his arms, kissed his son on the cheek, lifted him on his shoulder, and walked away.

Azulon shouted weakly as blood continued to spout from his elbows "Where are you going?'

Ozai turned back to face him.

"I'm taking Zuko home. After I make sure he's okay, I'm coming back to deal with you."

No. 10 approached Ursa and Azula.

Azula said, "Mum, watch and I think you'll understand what's going on?"

With one swift move, she kicked off her android lookalike's head. Comprehension dawned on Ursa's face as No. 10's severed head littered the floor.

Ursa said, "Oh, Azula."

She hugged her daughter who returned the embrace.

Azula said, "I missed you, Mum."

Ursa said, "I missed you too, sweetie."

The mother-daughter reunion was cut short when a voice called them "Oh, how sweet?"

It was No. 10. Her severed head, though disconnected from her mechanical body, was talking by itself.

Ursa asked, "Azula, what is that thing?"

Azula smiled evilly, drew out two fingers, and bent a blue flame at the android's head, destroying it.

Zuko sits on his father's shoulder as Ozai carries him homeward. Ursa is happy to see her husband good and kind again.

Ozai merely said to her "Hey, hon. Sorry I've been gone for so long. I can't believe that mad scientist captured me."

Ozai hugs Azula and lifts her onto his other shoulder. Ozai explains to his beloved wife what had happened to him. Ursa and Ozai kiss romantically. After husband and wife withdraw, Ozai smells something in the kitchen. Ozai hopes what he smells is the smell of his, Ursa, Zuko's, and Azula's dinner.

As soon as dinner was over, the happy reunited family met news from an Imperial Firebender that Azulon had died from the amputation of his arms. Ozai, Ursa, and Azula were expressionless. Zuko's face was full of fear. After the guard had left their presence, Ozai addressed his wife.

He said, "Dear, you heard the impostor speak my mind. With Lu Ten gone, Iroh's bloodline has ended. After his son's death, my brother abandoned the battle and who knows when he will return home. But, we are here, Ursa, and our children are alive."

Ursa said, "What is on your mind, Ozai?"

Ozai said, "Ursa, propose your plan in which I would become Fire Lord. Together you and I can rule the world. Make things the way we want them to be."

Ursa said, "Okay, if it's that important to you."

Ozai kissed her lips and she reciprocated.

If Ursa had proposed her plan, this would have happened. As soon as the Mechanist realized that Ursa had done vicious, treasonous things to protect Zuko and that Ursa would be executed for her treason. The Mechanist alerted Ozai and Azula to what he had uncovered from the tracking device in No. 10's memory systems.

Azula said, "Oh no. Mum."

Ozai said, "Ursa!"

Ozai angrily turned to the Mechanist.

Ozai said, "Your metal monster is going to execute my wife. If I ever break out of here and Ursa is beheaded, Ursa won't be the only one dead."

The Mechanist said, "That's precisely what I came to tell you."

He pressed the open button on the remote control he was holding.

Ozai and Azula are released from their computerized prison cells.

The Mechanist said, "Take my war balloon. You can get back to the Fire Nation, to save Zuko."

Ozai asked, "Where is this war balloon?"

Ursa awaits her execution. She walks to the scaffold. Ozai and Azula arrive in on the scene.

Ozai said, "Ursa."

Ursa said, "Ozai."

Ozai said, "Azula, explain to your mother what happened."

Ozai was visibly livid at the condition Ursa was in. He was silent but maddened beyond ever before and ever as seen in the other dimension he was observed from through Nickelodeon.

Ozai addressed No. 11.

He told her, "My daughter will always be prettier than you, junk-pile."

He bent a few fire blasts which vaporized No. 10, killing her.

Ozai turned to No. 10.

He said, "You're weak. You put the blame on an innocent woman, for protecting her child. "

He drew out the shut-down remote. No. 10's evil and ruthless face which so resembled his human template was filled with horror at the sight of the remote control.

"Don't ever mess with a man's wife or children, or that's what will happen," said Ozai.

He pushed the circular button on the remote control. In reaction, No. 9 was switched off and fell into shut-down mode.

Ozai is a man. Ursa is a woman. Zuko and Azula are their children. Ozai protects his wife, son, and daughter from all their enemies with wrath visible about him, but his heart pounded purely with love. Ozai kisses Ursa and embraces her.

Ursa said, "I love you, Ozai."

Ozai said, "I love you back."

Zuko said, "I love you both."

Azula said, "Me too."

Both the kids cuddle their parents as high as he or she could reach.

Ursa said, "And we love you, too."

Ozai said, "Of course we do."

With the evil Members of the Fire Royal Family dead; Ozai, Ursa, Zuko, and Azula are the last of their family apart from Iroh. Seizing his chance from Ursa's vicious treasonous things to usurp the Fire Lord's throne, Ozai takes up his father's crown and is coronated as the Fire Nation's new king.

In either of the two cases, Azulon is dead and Ozai is to be his successor.
