Born in approximately 1012 BSC, in Chong Village, which is approximately twenty miles from the Fire Nation Capitol, both Yin and Yang spent the majority of their young childhood practicing and mastering firebending techniques. When the twins were approximately eight, their parents were killed in a fire, which cause remained unknown for much of their life. From then on, orphaned and homeless, the twins spent most of their time in Master Zen's Firebending Academy and in the streets. At a young age, both twins learned how to survive by themselves which helped them prepare for future events.
Trained by Master Zen, the twins mastered lightning generation and redirection at age twelve which was the youngest in firebending history. However, although Master Zen showed them a lot of affection, he became more detached and secretive as the twins became much more skilled.
In the same year when they were twelve, Yin and Yang, encountered an assassin who nearly killed their master. Yin and Yang traveled to the Fire Sage base which was in an underground cavern in order to carry out one of the last requests of their master.
The Fire Sages revealed that both twins were Avatars. This, however, causes complete imbalance of the nations since Raava was forced to split and in order to maintain balance Vaatu had also split. This caused wars in the Spirit World and revolts in the human world.
The twins are both very courageous, however Yang seems to be a lot more reserved in comparison to Yin. Yin is for the most part reserved, he seldom lets out his emotion and thoughts. The twins are also very ecstatic when it comes to learning about bending
