Yakul is a flying bison from the Eastern Air Temple. He is a friend of Guardian Tyro's, and he helped Team Avatar on their quest to defeat the evil Lady Li-Hua.

Lady Li-Hua, the evil sister of the Earth Queen, kidnaps the Earth Guardians and creates a green smoke that sickens benders and stops them from bending. Miranda, the Avatar after Korra, was the only one capable of saving everyone. Miranda finds Guardian Tyro, who gives Miranda his amulet. Tyro says to find Yakul and Huang-Gi, a firebender who once was a loyal assistant to Lady Li-Hua. Tyro thought that because of Huang-Gi's former affiliation with Lady Li-Hua, she would know how to defeat her.

Miranda meets Yakul the next day, and he tries to take her and her friends to the Foggy Swamp.

Elina tells Yakul to rest and tells Ming to stay by Yakul while she and her friends find Huang-Gi. When they find Huang-Gi, she is reluctant to go to Lady Li-Hua's lair with them, but she agrees eventually. Yakul and Ming also go with them. Yakul, Willy, Myrdin, Dandelion, Ming, and Huang-Gi distract Lady Li-Hua's helpers, including Pei Qi, while Miranda goes to the lair. Yakul and the rest of the group are captured while trying to help Miranda, so Miranda tells Lady Li-Hua to free them.

Yakul later returned to the Eastern Air Temple.
