|Tunnels Reveal Secrets|
25th March, 2014
A heavily modified scene from The Cave of Two Lovers, focusing and concentrating on Kataang's interaction, along with revealing what really happened when the torch went out.
Although I prefer to have stories of Katara, I like having Aang's opinion and I include his point of view over and over, furthering his opinion on events, while keeping the Fanon third person. The fanon was originally much longer, but I cut some scenes for certain reasons.
In the Cave of Two Lovers, Katara looks at the inscription on the relief, continuing to read.
"Love is brightest in the dark."
A picture is shown of Oma and Shu kissing. Aang looks surprised, but, as soon as Katara turns around, he sighs happily, staring at her.
"I might just have hope," he thinks to himself, smiling.
Katara studies the portrait of the two lovers and the inscription while Aang stands off to side.
"How are we going to find our way out of these tunnels?" says Aang.
"I have a crazy idea," remarks Katara.
Katara opens her mouth to say, but then quickly and hesitantly stops. Embarrassed, she is, she inquires "Never mind. It's too crazy."
"Katara, what is it?"
"I was thinking... The curse says we'll be trapped in here forever unless we trust in love..."
She turns to look at a portrait. "And here, it says, "Love is brightest in the dark," and has a picture of them kissing."
Aang is utterly confused, and pulls in words to say, "Where are you going with this?"
Katara says, shyly, while blushing, "Well, what if we... kissed?"
Aang, truly surprised, wonders, "Us... kissing?"
"See? It was a crazy idea."
Aang daydreams of him and Katara laying down on top of a mountain, kissing. Aang smiles dreamily, muttering to himself, "Us... kissing..."
Katara suddenly wakes him from his daydream, trying to fake joking, by saying, "Us kissing. What was I thinking? Can you imagine that?"
Aang quickly dismisses it, and replies, "Yeah." he attempts to laugh, but it comes out awkwardly. "I definitely wouldn't want to kiss you!"
Katara, frowns, insulted, "Oh, well! I didn't realize it was such a horrible option." She yells out angrily, "Sorry I suggested it!"
Aang, who is beginning to return to the daydream, wakes up, and realizes Katara's anger. "No, no, I mean... if there was a choice between kissing you and dying..."
Katara grunts disgustedly. Aang realizes any hopes of kissing her are destroyed. He quickly and desperately "What? I'm saying is I would rather kiss you than die - that's a compliment!"
He smiles awkwardly, but she is still enraged, "Well, I'm not sure which I'd rather do!" She angrily gives him the torch and storms off.
Aang, realizing he has just lost any hopes of kissing his sweetheart, mutters miserably "What is wrong with me...?".
He looks towards Katara, who is moving further away. He runs towards her. The two begin to walk around aimlessly, until Aang realizes the torch is beginning to run out.
"We're going to run out of light any second now, aren't we?" says Aang, desperately. He expects her to yell at him angrily or maybe slap him, but instead...
She appears calm, and says, "I think so..."
That's it! Aang's hopes have gone back to life. He approaches her, and smiles viciously. "Then, what are we going to do?"
"What can we do?"
She silently walks over and grabs hold of his hand. Aang smiles up at her. This is it. His heartbeat rises viciously, like its about to explode as he stares at Katara's face. She is rather smiling. This rises his heartbeat even more as she leans in at him. He quickly leans towards her, as the light begins to almost fade.
With the dim light, the two become mere silhouettes as they kiss each other, as if they were in utter hunger and this is the sake of the spirits. Pulling him close, Katara hugs Aang, as the light fades completely. One second of nothing, and the ceiling of the cave lights up revealing thousands of glowing crystals gleaming overhead. Aang is shocked, but they continue kissing. She then breaks away from him. He remains in kissing position, dreamily. She gives him one last soft kiss and moves away completely. Aang can now feel his own heartbeat. His most glamorous dreams, even more than world peace have come true. She kissed him.
Moments of silence spread, as Aang is still daydreaming. She smiles at him lightly. He closes his eyes, expecting another kiss, but instead, she speaks, "The ceiling has glowing rocks."
He snaps out of his dream, looking down, at how he is still holding her hand. "They're made of some kind of crystal. They must only light up in the dark."
Still staring at her dreamily, she responds "That's how the two lovers found each other! They just put out their lights and followed the crystals!"
The two run towards the crystals, still holding hands. In the distance, Katara spots the exit. "That must be the way out!"
Expecting this to end, Aang nods in agreement, still smiling. She approaches him and hugs him tightly. She then releases him.
There is hope for a relationship between them, now! Aang attempts to let this grow, "So, uh..." he could ask her on a date now, or confess his feelings for her, but...
"Let's go!" she interrupts, releasing his hand, and running towards the exit. He stares at her happily.
"Hey, buddy, do you think I have hope with her?" Aang turns to Appa. Appa nods, and pushes him. Aang runs towards her, and Appa follows. This was officially the best day in Aang's life.
