Avatar: The Last Airbender

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Jeong Jeong is a story being written by Alexander of Volzhsky.

We all know of Jeong Jeong the Deserter, the first firebending teacher of Avatar Aang. He became a legend for being the first man to desert the Fire Nation military and live. But what was it that caused him to become disillusioned with his country? What drove him to leave the Fire Navy? This is the story of Jeong Jeong.

  • Jeong Jeong — A firebending prodigy and an admiral of the Fire Nation Navy, Jeong Jeong comes from a line of naval officers. He decided to continue the tradition, and is now serving under Azulon. Friend of Iroh, Chey, and Hong Tzu.
  • Hong Tzu — A disciplinarian and professional officer, Captain Hong Tzu is known for his efficiency. First met Jeong Jeong when they were young lieutenants at the academy. Serves as the captain of Jeong Jeong's flagship, the Empire-class battleship Eye of Sozin.
  • Yon Rha — Ruthless commander of the elite Fire Nation marine unit known as the Southern Raiders. Served under Jeong Jeong's command, joins his movement for a time.
  • Chey — An Army captain of the artillery, expert in explosives. Joins the Free Officers Movement and becomes friend of Jeong Jeong.
  • Ozai — The Fire Lord of the Fire Nation, Ozai is an ambitious, ruthless, and cunning ruler. He befriends Jeong Jeong, a young officer showing promise in the Fire Nation military.
  • Iroh — Long-time friend of Jeong Jeong, Crown Prince of the Fire Nation and General of the Fire Nation Army. Is not a supporter of the movement, but a sympathizer.
  • Azulon — Current Fire Lord of the Fire Nation, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. A brutal leader.

  • Fire Nation Navy — The island archipelago that is the Fire Nation maintains the strongest navy on the planet, even stronger than that of the Water Tribes. It fields hundreds, if not thousands, of warships of various classes, that are crewed by hundreds of thousands of sailors and officers.
  • Free Officers Movement —

  • Fire Nation coup d'état attempt —

  • The name of the story is based on the somewhat known 1970s spy novel, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I originally learned of the story through Star Wars, after reading a writing piece about an Imperial officer titled Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji. That is where I first got the idea to write a story like this.
  • Jeong Jeong is my favorite character in The Last Airbender series, and I wondered about his background, like when he was in the Fire Nation military.
