Purpose in Greater Narrative
If you follow Jacob T. Fawkes page, you realize that the Tales series is the first part of a much larger chronology known as the Greater Narrative. This story is treated as an alternative parallel world to the Avatar world. Exactly the same in all respects except for a few differences in the back-stories of characters.
That is where the Tales series comes in. These nine chapters will seek to further the mythology of the Avatar world, as well as introduce new characters, themes, and arcs that will be explored in later parts. It is written in a style very reminiscent of an anthology.
The Tales series takes place in different periods in time all over the Avatar universe, from the beginning of Avatar Yangchen to right before Avatar: Reconstruction. Save for one of the stories, all of them take the perspective of the chapter title character.
The series will have 9 chapters and lead directly into Avatar: Reconstruction.
