Overview Edit

Ba Sing Se is kept balanced by the Dai Li. Any signs of conflict or talk of war are silenced immediately by these elite Earthbenders, under the strict eye of Long Feng. Brainwashing, imprisonment, execution... Anything's acceptable to maintain order. Those who disrupt the peace must be eliminated at once.

...Right?

Yuhan, a highly talented converter of rebels (a.k.a. brainwasher), never had any problems with the Dai Li's reasoning. He lives to contribute to the balance of the city since he doesn't really have anything else to do, anyway. After an unexpected twist of events, however, a childhood friendship resurfaces - and blooms into love.

It wouldn't have been so bad if the Dai Li hadn't deemed her a disruptor of peace.

He's one of Long Feng's favorite brainwashers - because he's bloody good at it. His Earthbending talent is also notable, even among other agents. Because of the high demands of work, he sleeps about 3 to 4 hours and day and has incurable shadows beneath his eyes. Despite his appearance as the ideal agent, his several quirks include awkwardness outside the job, a bad temper, and a high tendency to throw death threats at trivial things... A sleep-deprived mind is never predictable. For the most part, though, he's quiet, courteous, and patient towards his fellow members. Most agents (including himself) wonder why he tends to act the same towards the people he brainwashes, too.

An average humble citizen of Ba Sing Se's Lower Ring. She's lost her parents - twice. Her birth parents fell to the common plague of her poor community, while the war refugees who adopted her passed away mysteriously without a trace. She's known to be shy and honest, and she tends to think way too far when guilt-tripped (which happens a lot). However, she won't hesitate to hurl insults and throw down her righteous fury once she finds something disagreeable.

Yuhan's patrol partner and annoying friend (though he knows that Yuhan just won't admit they're besties). He has all the good qualities of an obedient agent, but he'll take any chance to avoid his duties whenever possible. He balances life in the Dai Li with the fun of everything else (particularly food). Though he doesn't like taking anything too seriously, he's still a pretty dependable companion overall...only when it's needed, of course.

It was never "official," but I tend to *hear* this piece while writing. I especially love the bit at 3:38, where I feel like the violin and cello interact like two people. The flute connects them like the deep love that slowly rises from a growing relationship, anddd...yeah, I think too much xD But I honestly wanted to share this just because it's such a beautiful song. Don't we all make connections to music sometimes? :)

• I like the Dai Li...a little too much. I mean, come on!!! Secret ultimate earthbending ninja police who can make people believe whatever they want? Seriously! Ahem. My need for a story actually started when I saw a work on deviantart that reminded me that these guys are human beings with personalities, too.
• My writing style was influenced particularly by Pureauthor and MasterFirebender84 of Fanfiction.net.
• Hiroshu's name was created before "Hiroshi Sato!" my face probably looked a little like ._. when I saw the similarity. But whatever, who likes evil Hiroshi Sato anyway?! (And my OC is better-looking, if anything)
• Most character illustrations for this story were created by the talented illustrators Arriku, Scribbletati, and Nazgullow from Deviantart.com. I'm forever grateful to them! 
• Arriku, creator of SHiE's main image, also drew this picture. So it seems her fanart appears on this site in various forms!
• When I say that Lady Lostris helped me with canon logic, I really mean SHiE literally would've been trashed long before it ever reached the wiki if she didn't help. Anyone who likes this story should thank her, too!
• During Minnichi's entire first year on Avatar Wiki, SHiE updated a total of 4 times. Yeahhhh, I just have so much time on my hands, I know :P
