Asami spins out of control but is able to take control of her vehicle. She speeds up to Korra's right just as they cut a sharp corner to the left. Only several yards to the finish lines. She puts her car into a higher gear and beats Korra by an inch to the finish line. They pull to a stop and get out.
"That was awesome!" Korra says.
"It sure was," Asami agrees.
"Yeah. We should do it again sometime." Korra suggests.
"Totally." There was a silence for a second.
"So how are you and Mako?" Korra asks.
"We broke up. He got so carried away in his job he forgot about me."
Korra runs up to hug her. She lets go and puts her hands on Asami's shoulders. "I'm so sorry to hear that. You two were perfect for each other. You went through so much."
"It was for the best," Asami says. "Besides, I think he liked you better anyway."
"Naw. We ended on mutual, peaceful agreement. We're just not right for each other."
They both sigh.
"We should do something together." Korra suggests. "Something to get your mind off Mako."
"How about Narook's? We can go tonight."
"Sounds good," Korra begins to walk away.
"It's a date," Asami says. Korra stops and turns around.
Asami realizes the awkwardness of what she just said.
"Er, I mean....see you there!"
Korra turns around.
Asami frowns in regret. How could she have let herself say that? Did she really want Korra to know? Tonight was going to be awkward.
Asami is late by a couple minutes. She was nervous after what happened this afternoon. She wanted to make sure something like that didn't happen again.
She walks into Narook's Noodlery and sits at the bar right beside Korra.
"Sorry I'm late," Asami says.
"It's cool," Korra says. "It's only been a couple minutes."
The bartender walks up to them. "What can I get you to drink?"
"Two shots of cactus juice," Korra says.
"A mug of lychee juice," Asami says.
The bartender walks away to make the drinks.
"So how's your love life?" Asami asks.
"I don't know...." Korra trails off. "I just haven't found the right person yet." She seems depressed.
The bartender brings over the drinks.
"What about Bolin?" Asami suggests. "You two seemed to have some chemistry."
"I don't know...." Korra stutters. "My life's been complicated lately." She takes a sip of cactus juice. "I think I might just go asexual."
"You don't need to do that." Asami assures her. "I'm sure you'll find someone."
"Maybe...." Korra gulps down some cactus juice, sighs, then sets down he glass. She smiles. "Or I could just start dating girls." She says halfheartedly. It was kind of in a joke the way she said it, but in the way you could also think she was serious, too. Asami almost snorts out the lychee juice. Korra's remark almost embarrassed her. Was Korra serious? Or was she just drunk off the cactus juice? Asami starts coughing up the lychee juice.
"Asami, are you alright?" Korra asks. Asami is able to stop coughing for a couple seconds.
"Yeah. I'm fine," She coughs a couple more times.
"I didn't mean what I said about that dating girls thing. It was.....just a joke," Korra frowns off. She really did like Asami. She wanted to be romantically involved with her, but she just didn't know how to go about doing it. She was pretty sure no other girl has had the same feelings as her, no one has. She was willing to try, though.
"Hey bartender, can I get a couple more shots of cactus juice?" Korra asks.
"Sure thing," the bartender says. He comes back with the drinks. Korra engulfs down the drinks.
"I have to use the bathroom," she says. "I'll be right back." As she begins to get up, she get dizzy and almost falls, Asami grabs her arm and puts her arm around her for balance.
"You've been drinking too much," Asami tells her. "I'll help you to the bathroom, then we'll head back to Air Temple Island so you can sleep it off."
"That sounds good," Korra agrees.
After they get out of the bathroom, Asami drives Korra back to Air Temple Island. She helps Korra onto the ferry.
"Good night, Korra," Asami says.
"Good night, Asami," Korra says. Asami starts to walk away. "I love you," Asami hears Korra yell back. Asami walks back to her.
"What did you just say?" Asami asks.
Korra's eyes almost roll into the back of her head. "I said....I love you." She stubbles. She is barely able to run up to Asami. Then she kisses her on the lips. Korra then runs back to the ferry. She misses the door and flips over the side of the ship, laying down and passing out on the floor. The ferry sails off.
"I love you, too....." Asami whispers. She knows Korra can't hear her, but she instead says it in desperation to get it off her chest.
Did Korra really like her back? Or was she just drunk on all the cactus juice she had, hallucinating, making up thoughts and feelings she didn't have? Maybe all that alcohol made her more open with her feelings. Whatever the case was, Asami had to figure it out. She needs to know if Korra really does love her back.
Korra woke up at around mid-day. She has a hangover from last night. She barely has the energy to get out of bed. There was a knock at the door. She opens it.
"Avatar Korra!" a White Lotus member says. "Asami Sato asked me to give you this note." He hands her the note.
"Thanks," I say. He walks off and I close the door. I walk to the center of my room and unfold the note to read it.
Meet me on the second floor of the Harmony Tower. We need to discuss what happened last night.
Last night? What happened last night? She thought. Were her true feelings for Asami exposed..... She had to find out the answer tonight. She had to find out if Asami really did love her, too.
Asami was standing at the edge of the tower.
"Hey...." she says.
"Hey...." Korra says back. Things were awkward between them after what had happened. They were quiet at first. Finally, Asami says something.
"Korra," she says. "Do you remember what you said to me last night?"
"No..." she starts off. "What did I say?"
"Well....you told you loved me. Then you kissed me...."
"Oh...." Korra frowns off. "I'm sorry--I didn't mean to say that! I was drunk! It just came out!!!!" She throws out, obviously embarrassed by the situation.
"I understand...." Asami says. They both glance over the edge of the tower. "But is it true?" Asami stares at Korra.
Korra looks at her. "Is what true?" she asks.
"Do you love me?" Asami asks.
Korra sighs off. Almost in tears. "Yes.....I do love you."
"I love you, too!" Asami spits out, instantly kissing Korra. They stand there kissing passionately in the full moonlight. Korra slowly breaks away.
"This isn't right...." she says guiltily.
"What?" Asami says curiously.
"Us....we can't do this."
Asami puts her hands on Korra's shoulders. "But why? I thought you loved me."
"I do....it's just this isn't right. Two women dating in the way one man and one woman do. It wasn't meant to be. If the spirits wanted us to be together, they would have made you or me a man."
"It shouldn't matter what we are. All that matters is that we love each other" Asami starts to tear up. Korra rubs her hand for comfort.
"What about your company? No one has ever had feelings like this. What would your customers think? You'll lose business."
Asami looks into Korra's eyes. "Can we at least give this a chance?"
Korra kisses her. "Let's let that be it," She walks away.
As soon as she was out of sight, Asami breaks down crying.
Korra didn't cry until she got home. She didn't want to do that to Asami but it was for the best. She had to do what was morally right; it was her duty as the Avatar.
There is a knock at the door.
"May I come in?" It's the voice of Bolin.
"Yeah..." she says softly, trying to hide off the fact that she'd been crying.
He opens the door carrying a bouquet of pink roses.
"Listen, Korra," he begins. "I really like you. I know we had something a long time ago, and we're lucky to bring that back as friends. But I wanna be more than that." He looks at Korra for second. "Hey, are you crying?" he asks.
Korra wipes the tears from her eyes. She looks into Bolin's eyes, and then puts her arms round his neck. She kisses him, and smiles.
"Actually, I'm gonna be just fine."
Asami took the next day off. She was still depressed after what happened last night. She was laying in bed, moping around. The door bell rings.
She gets up, slowly, and walks to the door. She looks out the peep-hole. It's Mako. Even though she wasn't in the mood to see him, she opens the door anyway.
"Can I come in?" he asks.
She sighs. "Sure." Mako walks into the center of the room.
"I quit my job at the police station," Mako confesses.
Asami is astonished. "What....why?"
"Because I want you back," he says as he grabs both of her hands. "You always told me I spent too much time on my job, so I decided to quit."
"But how will you make a living? Bolin's still having trouble finding work."
"Maybe I can get a job with you. That way you can always make sure I'm spending time with you."
Asami smiles. "Okay then. You're hired." They start hugging. She lifts her right leg and they begin making out.
Screw women she thinks. I was meant for men.
