|Return of the Zhiming Assassins|
Team Suki has just ridden out of the city of Gaoling, leaving it and Nabi behind. Everyone was a bit too saddened to speak, but, finally, Ty Lee managed to break the silence. "So, um, where are we going next?"
"We're going to find a place to make camp and then we are going to find those horrible Zhimings," Suki explained.
"And how exactly are we going to do that?" asked Rong.
"We are going to make them come to us," said Suki.
Everyone exchanged confused glances as they tried to find out what exactly Suki had in mind.
About an hour later, Team Suki had found a nice area in the woods to camp for the night and were sitting around a campfire.
"Alright, well, I don't know about you guys, but I am exhausted!" Bo said, yawning afterwards. "I think I'm going to hit the hay. Goodnight, guys."
"Goodnight," everyone else replied.
"I think I am going to go to sleep too. See you in the morning, everybody!" Ty Lee said before cartwheeling into her tent.
"Goodnight," everyone else replied.
"I think I am going to go to sleep too. See you in the morning, everybody!" Ty Lee said before doing a back flip into her tent. Several minutes later, Suki, Ling, and Rong had all retired into their tents, however, not all of them were asleep. As Suki was about to close her eyes, she heard footsteps outside and was sure of who was leaving.
Meanwhile, outside the tents, Rong and Ling were quietly sneaking away further into the woods. The two finally found a place to sit. "So, is there anything you want to talk about tonight?" Ling asked.
Rong hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I just can't believe that Kang Dae is my brother," Rong admitted. "I feel like I should have done something. I should have tried to convince him to join us or to go back home."
"Rong, you can't blame yourself," Ling insisted. "Kang Dae chose his own path. He may be your brother, but he is with the Zhimings. As much as I want you to have your brother back, I just do not think he will listen to reason."
As Rong took this in, Ling was staring up at the moon which was shining down brightly. His tranquil thoughts were interrupted by a slap in the face. He looked down at Rong, hurt in more ways than one.
"Ling, I-I don't know what came over me!" Rong stated.
"Rong, how could you?" Ling asked, sadly.
"No, I mean I really don't know what came over me! It's like I could not even control my own arm!" Rong insisted.
Ling was confused. He did not see how any of this made sense, until he saw someone move out from behind the bushes, slowly. The man had his arms out in front of him like he was a zombie of some sort. With a quick move of his hands, Rong was down on the ground. As Ling stood speechless, Rong looked up at the man and recognized him. The unmistakable silver hair let her and Ling know it was someone they knew all too well.
"Shuang!" Ling yelled.
"Hey there, kiddies! Do you want to take a little trip back to base?" Shuang asked, even though he did not intend to let them choose.
Ling thrust his right arm forward, but instead of bending a boulder out of the ground like he had intended, his arm was frozen. Ling was suddenly aware of how Shuang had forced Rong to the ground. "You-you are a-"
"A Bloodbender!" Shuang said, finishing his sentence. "You know what? You two lovebirds really should not sneak out alone so much!" he added. The maniac then lifted the two into the air and disappeared into the woods.
Back at camp, Suki was still asleep. As Bo and Ty Lee were slumbering without care, Suki was tossing and turning in her tent. Sweat sliding down her forehead.
She was on Kyoshi Island, watching the Zhiming soldiers burn it to the ground. As a person ran for cover, his head was impaled by an arrow. Suki looked up to the roof to see Yanshu firing at people in every direction. She saw Shuang sliding on a wave of ice, murdering people with ice spikes, sending them through their hearts. Suki saw Shun Airbend people into the ocean, drowning some and leaving others to get eaten by the Unagi. The monstrous beast swallowed several of them whole. Suki saw Kang Dae breathing fire down on innocent children from his mouth. Suddenly, she saw Hong Wu running through the village, but then he turned to face her. The knife-thrower started laughing maniacally as a giant image of Tai Kun filled her vision. "Even though the conqueror has fallen, a warrior of might will arise and dominate every weakling in his path!" Tai Kun's voice bellowed. Suddenly, Suki was falling through an endless, black void. She saw many frightening things as she fell. There was a Four-armed platypus bear, an image of Mayor Nabi's dead body, lying in his office in Gaoling, there was a large image of Jun's face breathing fire into the pit, and there was an image of an Airbender she did not know who was slaughtering people in what looked like the Northern Water Tribe. Then she saw something truly horrible. Suki's eyes widened as she saw her parents. Both of them washed away into the sea before her very eyes.
Suki shot up with a startled yell, breathing heavily as she tried to calm down. I need some fresh air. Suki thought. She got up and walked out of her tent, rubbing her eyes as she walked outside. When she removed her hands from in front of her eyes, she saw someone standing just a few inches away from her.
"Having trouble sleeping, sweetheart?" Hong Wu asked. Startled, Suki reached for her fans, but Hong Wu had anticipated this and grabbed her arm before she could defend herself. He then grabbed her neck and brought her face close to his. "The only reason you are not already dead is because Tai Kun wants you alive," Hong Wu elaborated. "But I promise you will not escape this time." Suki slammed her head into Hong Wu's face, knocking the knife-thrower backwards. Suki reached for her katana, but halted when she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her back. Everything felt like it was going numb, the world was spinning. Suki fell down and lost consciousness as Yanshu's arrow neutralized her.
Everything was blurry. It seemed everything had multiplied, as there was two of everything in sight. "She is waking up," said a voice belonging to a woman.
"Good, that means we can get this over with," another voice spoke, this one belonging to a man.
Finally, Suki's vision returned to normal and what she saw was less than pleasing. Four of the Zhiming Superiors, as well as Yanshu stood before her. The people she was so sure she had defeated six months ago had not only returned, but had taken her captive. Suddenly, there was something that went through her mind. "Where are the others?" she demanded.
"We are over here," said a voice belonging to a Waterbender. Suki turned her head and saw Bo, Ling, Rong, and Ty Lee all tied up to her right.
The Zhiming Superiors stepped aside as a man in green robes approached the captured heroes. The man removed his hood and revealed himself to be none other than the leader of the Zhiming Assassins. "Well, well, what have we here?" Tai Kun asked. "It seems we have caught ourselves four little brats camping in the woods." He then looked over at Ty Lee. "As well as their cheerleading mascot," he added.
"What did you just call me?" the chi-blocker asked.
"Ignore him, Ty Lee," said Rong.
"How did you find us?" Suki inquired.
"We set up our agents in Gaoling so that Nabi would see them. We knew the old fool would send you a letter asking for your help," Tai Kun started.
"Don't you dare talk about him that way!" Ling yelled. He was then hit with a blast of water from Shuang. The Earthbender screamed as he was knocked over in his chair.
"As I was saying, we knew you would go to Gaoling in response to the event. We had our undercover agent kill Nabi and make it seem like she was supposed to kill you. We knew, though, that you would survive and seek refuge in the woods. It was only a matter of tracking down your eel hound and searching the general area in which we had tracked him down," Tai Kun finished.
"So, now what are you going to do? Kill us?" asked Suki.
"Yes, but we will not waste a single moment this time," Tai Kun replied. "And once we are through with you we will strike at the very heart of the Earth Kingdom: Ba Sing Se!"
Suki and the others' eyes widened. "You can't be serious! You have no army anymore!" Rong shouted.
"Please, if an army was required then the Earth King would not have almost died two years ago," Tai Kun retorted. "Now, let's get on with this, shall we? Like I said, we do not plan on wasting any more time."
"Neither do we," said Ling. The Earthbender sprung up from the floor and Metalbent the floor underneath the Zhimings, slamming them into a wall. He then proceeded to quickly free everyone else. "Run!" he yelled. The five friends bolted out of the room, leaving the other behind. As they approached the exit of the rather small compound, they heard the sound of air coming at them from behind. The heroes were, all of the sudden, slammed into the exit door.
Suki tried to get up and run, but could not move. "I'm stuck!" she alerted everyone.
"Yeah, me too!" said Ty Lee.
Shun approached them from behind and let out a sinister chuckle. "You kids forgot about my little Gravitybending trick, didn't you? Big mistake," she said. She got behind Ling and formed an air spear in her hands. "I think I will end your life first, boy." Taking deep breaths, Rong focused her positive and negative energy, separating them and them making them clash once again. As Shun moved in for the kill, Rong released a bolt of lightning from her fingertips, electrocuting the Airbender and sending her to the ground. Free from Shun's grip, Ling wasted no time Metalbending the door down and escaping with the others.
"We have to find Feng!" Suki yelled. She heard a yelp from the side of the compound. All of Team Suki saw Feng locked in a metal cage. Ling Metalbent the cage down while Suki and Bo sliced through the eel hound's mouth and tail restraints.
"Come on, let's go!" Bo shouted. And with that, the team was off.
Tai Kun and the other Zhiming Superiors came rushing down the hallway, only to see Shun barely conscious on the ground and their enemies escaping. Furious, Tai Kun stomped his foot into the ground and let out a fierce yell. "Why did no one tell me that the boy could Metalbend?!" he demanded.
Hong Wu let out a nervous chuckle. "It must have slipped my mind, master." The knife-thrower was suddenly lifted off of his feet and slammed into the metal wall.
"Give me one good reason I should allow you to live!" Tai Kun shouted.
"Because I am your most determined warrior, master! I can still be of use to you!" Hong Wu answered.
Tai Kun slowly released his grip on Hong Wu's throat and let him drop to the ground. "See to it that you do not make another mistake, or I shall have your head cut off and put on display as a reminder of what shall happen to those who fail me!" the Zhiming leader walked away from his subordinates, slamming his fist into a wall. "Pack everything up! We are moving to a new location!" he ordered. "Ba Sing Se awaits us and we shall not arrive behind schedule!"
"How did you free yourself?" Ty Lee questioned Ling.
"I guess they forgot I could Metalbend. It was not really that hard to bend a little slab of metal up to cut my restraints without them noticing," Ling explained.
"What I can't believe is that Rong was able to make lightning!" Bo made several noises, trying to imitate the sound lightning makes. "How did you do that?"
"I guess I was so desperate to save my friends it just came to me," said Rong.
"Well, now we know that Tai Kun is definitely on the move again and that we have to do everything in our power to stop whatever he is planning next," said Suki. Everyone else nodded in agreement as they rode off into the night. As the wind whipped by them, the young heroes had a lot on their minds to think about.
