Commander of the Paladin army
Poshehn was born somewhere in the United Republic, to a Firebending father and a non-bending mother. Like his mother, he was a non-bender, and always wanted to follow in his father's footsteps. When he was older, he left the United Republic and traveled the world, making many friends along the way. Though he was tempted to join the Equalist revolution in Republic City, his felt that his true calling was travelling the world.
Poshehn found a new appreciation for bending, and hoped one day that he would find a way to develop bending abilities, especially after several Earth Kingdom citizens, one of whom he had already met, became airbenders following Harmonic Convergence, believing he would have gotten them had he stayed a few more weeks in the same town.
During a long detour into the Earth Kingdom, he came to the town of Quzhou. He quickly noticed that no-one in the town was a bender, but there were reports that there were a few benders, but none of them bent the elements. Poshehn was intrigued, and searched the town, even heading out at night to find clues.

Becoming a Lightbender
Poshehn was left in charge of gaining trustworthy allies for the Paladins, and in exchange he would gain the ability to Lightbend, a secret art that was completely forgotten during the time of Avatar . Though at first, Poshehn didn't believe they could give him that power, they assured him that they would be using energybending to give him that skill. They even took him to see one of their captives, Vahaan, who he had previous tried to protect from them in Quzhou.
Poshehn was granted the ability to Lightbend by one of the Paladins' energybender captives. While the skill caused Poshehn to become ill, he soon got past it and developed a natural talent for the skill.
As a non-bender, Poshehn new a range of martial arts, easily besting several benders during his travels.
