"Lucky" Laobing is a minor character in the fanon, Avatar: The Legacy of Rong Yan. Laobing is Captain Wei's grandfather and he also appears in the story of Ku Tei.

Laobing was a young man serving in the Earth Kingdom military, along with Avatar Ku Tei. Being in the same battalion as the Avatar, throughout Avatar Ku Tei's training around the world in mastering the four elements, there are various chapters where Laobing will appear but several he has no contact with Ku Tei.

Throughout Ku Tei's story, he will raise through the ranks of the army. Laobing was given the nickname "Lucky" when General Senlin had trapped his battalion of men in a vantage point that was held by the Water Tribes.

Everyone was killed but Laobing was injured, though used feign death to fake his demise. After Laobing returned to base with two broken ribs and a broken left arm, he was taken into care. Laobing was given the nickname "Lucky".

From then on, everyone called him "Lucky" Laobing, he returned to battle two years later. After the war ended, he retired from the army and went into retirement. "Lucky" Laobng later appears in Avatar: The Legacy of Rong Yan, after receiving a letter report from Shang Jin that Captain Wei was killed by General Senlin.

Laobing grabbed his gear and headed out his home. He is now searching for Senlin, willingly to take revenge and kill the general for killing his grandson.

Laobing was born an earthbender and mastered the art while training in Ba Sing Se when he was a young man. His father trained him in bluntsfighting, where he is now a master with the weapon type. He uses his stone mallets to enhance his earthbending.

Being rendered from the use of earthbending via blocking of his chi, he still is a very formidable opponent with his hammers.
