Book 2: Water Chapter ??
Not much is known of Kuma other than he is one of the five other fishermen within Unaraq's fishing crew. Kuma is also a waterbender but not a master. He uses his waterbending to capture fish just like Sakana does.
Sakana and Kuma have been friends since they both joined the crew of Prince Unaraq, sharing memories with each other, seemingly they're best friends. Kuma, was Sakana's best man during his wedding and was there when Sakana's son was born. Kuma, has unknown parents, their names are never mentioned but he does mention them as "mom" and "dad". Kuma has no love interest as of yet, and his no children whatsoever.
Sakana and Kuma, are good friends but when Kuma asks Sakana about what is going on with him in later chapters he does not tell his most trusted friend anything. Eventually after Kuma discovers what Sakana has been up to, Sakana enraged during battle accidentally kills his friend Kuma.
Sakana stops to check his friend after the blind rage which gave enough time for Rong Yan to kill off Sakana.
Kuma, was born a waterbender, but had never gone as far as to master his gift. He knows a few things that Sakana his friend had taught him. Just like Sakana's unqiue way of catching fish, Kuma, has adopted the skill as well and uses it when he's out during fishing trips either on his own or with the crew.
Kuma, uses waterbending for his very survival as well, but does not know how to use melee weapons.
