Jinju was an airbender of the Southern Air Temple and the great-grandfather of Sokka and Katara.

Jinju was first seen in the courtyard in the Southern Air Temple, where he and his friends played with the air scooters that Aang thought them. The children soon made an accompanying game. When Aang wanted to join them, he was denied, giving his team an unfair advantage. Because of his lack of certain airbending skills, he was picked last and his team later lost.

After Aang found out that he was the Avatar, Jinju was one of the few people that treated him like a person. He, Aang and Hokai formed a strong bond and relationship and remained friends until the bitter end.

After Aang left and froze himself in ice, the air temples were attacked by the Fire Nation. Jinju and the other Air Nomad boys did as Monk Gyatso told them and wanted to escape. They were ambushed by Fire Nation soldiers and Jinju was the only one to survive the battle.

After the Air Nomad Genocide, he settled down in the Northern Water Tribe. There he created a family. He became a great warrior of the Northern Water Tribe. Because of fear of local collaborators and Fire Nation spies he decided to never airbend again, therebye assuring safety to his family.

He was one of the few people, that were accepted into the Spirit World, where he'd peacefully reside until 100 AG, when he got capture by Koh, the Face Stealer. The Spirit wasn't able to take his face away, as Jinju was too stronng for him. He got freed by Sokka and the rest of the Gaang, when Sokka used a mirror to defeat Koh. After his rescue he accepted Sokka's offer of being his new Spiritual Guide.

He was the father of Kanna, the grandfather of Hakoda, and the great-grandfather of Sokka and Katara.
