Iroh was born in 35 AG as the first son of Fire Lord Azulon and his wife Ilah. As the first born he was the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation and successor to the throne. Iroh was a Firebending prodigy, a skilled bender, who would become the Fire Nation's best General.
As his father he was interested in military and war and soon became a great general and strategist. His whole life he acted upon his childhood vision, that he should break through the walls of Ba Sing Se and claim the city for the Fire Nation. During the six hundred day siege of the Earth Kingdom capital he penetrated through the outer wall of the city, but soon ended his siege due to the death of his only son, Lu Ten. The Siege of Ba Sing Se came to be seen as a terrible dishonor and failure for Iroh.
As he was travelling back home, he was informed that his father, Fire Lord Azulon passed away and that his brother, Prince Ozai became the new Fire Lord, with Iroh's birthright revoked.
After his nephew, Prince Zuko unknowingly challenged his father, Fire Lord Ozai to an Agni Kai, which he lost, Iroh travelled the world with Zuko, searching for the Avatar. During this time Iroh became very fatherly towards Zuko, thinking of him as his own.
Iroh accompanied Zuko all around the world as they hunted the Avatar, an Airbender named Aang. After the disaster in the Northern Water Tribe Zuko and his Uncle were regarded as traitors to the Fire Nation and would be put on trial. They became refugees and settled in the Earth Kingdom capital of Ba Sing Se.
There Iroh finally changed sides and helped the Avatar, giving him advice. After the battle with his niece, Princess Azula and her brother, who turned against him Iroh became a prisoned and was sentenced to Life in Prison. Later he escaped and was reunited with the Order of the White Lotus.
When Zuko also switched sides and became the Avatar's Firebending Master he and his Uncle were reunited again. Iroh was an important figure during the Battle for Ba Sing Se, and one of its liberators.
After the war he opened a Tea shop in the Upper ring of the city he called home. When the Fire Nation Civil War broke loose Iroh was an important figure during the battle, as he was the leader of the Fire Nation army during the Siege of Was Na Si. After the battle his job was to secure the former Fire Nation Colonies and make them safe.
When the Red Revolt fleet sailed towards the Northern Water Tribe Iroh became interim Fire Lord as his Nephew, Fire Lord Zuko personally led the Fire Nation army to protect the Water Tribe.
