It had been a week since the incident, Ken has healed miraculously since then, but he had something on his mind. He had been curious about the woman in his dream, Tamara. Was she special or was Ken just pushing the subject? Her chi was unreadably complicated, and her fire, it was unbelievably strong. And his dream; Was it really just a dream?
He wondered if could have possibly been the Spirits at work telling him something, or was it just his temporary fear of that woman working in his subconscious. Ken would never know he thought as he saw Ashley heading over to the river bank.
"Hey Ken," said Ashley.
"Hey, what'cha doing? Enjoying the scenery?" he said gesturing towards the river he was sitting next. Ken was sitting on the sand; the current wasn't to strong, and he could see fish swimming and jumping right in front of him.
"Oh, no. Actually just checking up on you, but yea this place those look great."
"Why on me?"
"Because I was worried."
"Because I fell like you've been avoiding us these last few days."
"No, I'm not avoiding you, its just that... I've just been just thinking," replied Ken with a sigh.
"About?" She asked sitting down next to him.
"Oh, nothing important," He didn't want to bother Ashley about his petty problems.
"Good, well want to do something while those two argue over which roads to take?" This woke him up, but she didn't actually think that through she was already drowning in task's to do.
"Sure, like what?" He asked, But she herself wasn't sure.
"Oh, I don't know, Anywhere I guess? Oh, I would love to go to the city! I hear they're having some sort of festival now."
"That sounds fun, but are you sure we should go? I mean aren't they going to worry?"
"Don't worry about them, by the time they decide on paths we would already be back."
"Well okay let's go," said Ken getting up, brushing off the sand.
"Great, let's go!"
Fire Ferret Festival
"See Ken, hasn't this been fun?!" yelled Ashley excitedly.
"Yea, those performers were crazy cool."
"Oh please, all they did was jump around and shoot fire."
"Well isn't that what all firebending is?" teased Ken.
"You better watch your mouth, or I'll show you what firebending really is!" threatened Ashley not so seriously. Then they both started laughing.
"This really has been fun and I wish we could stay longer, but we really have to get back. The others must be worried sick," said Ashley, worried.
"Cheng? Never, he does things like this all the time! We deserve some fun too, don't you think?" continued Ken.
"Yeah, we deserve this, I say we go buy some masks over there just to scare them when we get back."
"Ha ha! Now you're talking. Let's go!" said Ken getting out some money.
Tough Road Back
"So Ken what were you really thinking about at the river?" asked Ashley.
"I told you, it was nothing," he answered.
"If it was nothing why would you go there for the past five days?"
"Not unless you're a waterbender, Cheng said you would be okay."
"Well, okay in that case I'll tell you."
"Good, now that's better," she stated, pleased with herself.
"Well you know when I was out cold right? Well, I wasn't fully out of it," he started.
Oh no, he was awake! He knew about the kiss, it was so dumb of me! Why kiss him if he's asleep? Urghh I'm so stupid!!
"Well, what I mean is, I was kinda having a weird dream," he continued.
Oh thank Spirits, he doesn't know! she thought to herself.
"I was back in the village during the attack, and Cheng came to tell me you were here."
A little later
"And after that I knew it was a dream, and I woke up with all you around me," finished Ken.
"But how is that possible? How could a dream affect you in real life? When she hurt you in the dream you were hurt in real life?" asked Ashley.
"Yeah, hard to believe but its true," he replied.
"Well maybe we should ask Cheng if that's possible? Because it could be anything... maybe the Spirits are trying to tell you something, or something?"
"Well, I guess we could..." Ken was stopped mid sentence.
"Cong!" Ashley screamed
Ashley couldn't believe her eyes... There they were Cong and Cheng... on the floor out cold and bleeding thru all there clothes, it was all her fault...
"Ken what happened? I knew we shouldn't have left!"
"Look if we were here they would have just hurt us too!"
"I don't think it was an attack Ken."
"Well what- oh, you think they're dreaming?"
"Well they have a fever, they're bleeding in the same place, and, well just look at their faces."
Their faces had looks of pain, sorrow, guilt, anger; pretty much every negative emotion out there.
"Ken, just... they're not bleeding as bad as you were, but still. Last time there were three... Now, it's just us."
"Ashley? Calm down I know it's not as bad, so..." again he couldn't finish the sentence.
"Look, stop thinking rational and help me!"
"Help you what? You don't know what you're doing!"
"Neither do you! How can you be so calm! They're dying!"
"It's not as bad as you think."
"But, what do we do?" she said, calming down now.
"Well we have no choice. Let's take them into the town..."
"But, what if they find us?"
"Don't worry, they won't," he said comforting her
I think Ashley's emotions have been changing too quickly; am I right? And if so, is that good or bad?
