"The Spiritbender" is the ninth chapter of Book One: Start (開始) of.
Lady Li-Hua, Pei Qi, and their still hostage Zing Dang had got out of the Confusing Carousel and were now someplace between Gaoling and the Misty Palms Oasis.
"Alright, Zing Dang. Enough with your games. Where do we find the purple berry?" Lady Li-Hua asked with her now really irritable voice.
"Somewhere in that direction," Zing Dang said, pointing in the direction of the desert.
"There? Pei Qi! Find the map and tell me what's in that direction!" Lady Li-Hua ordered. Pei Qi brought an Earth Kingdom map up from his backpack.
"It seems like that is the direction of the Si Wong Desert," Pei Qi said.
"Okay, I see, the Si Wong Desert, then... Wait a minute? The Si Wong DESERT?" Lady Li-Hua sounded confused and furious at the same time.
"Yes," Pei Qi said.
"Zing Dang?" Lady Li-Hua asked with a calm but really creepy voice.
"Were you just trying to tell me that the place we can find a rare kind of berry that can make me the new Earth Queen in a freakin' DESERT?!" Lady Li-Hua screamed. She was actually that angry that her face was purple, just like the berries she was looking for.
"Maybe you can use your face to take over the Earth Kingdom?" Zing Dang joked; that didn't help on Lady Li-Hua's mood at all.
"ZING DANG! NOW YOU'RE TELLING ME THE TRUTH OR I'LL DESTROY YOUR TINY VILLAGE IMMEDIATELY!"
"Okay, okay, calm down. You see, the thing with the berry is that it does not really grow in the Earth Kingdom at all. It's growing in the United Republic," Zing Dang said.
"WHAT?!" Lady Li-Hua was about to start a journey towards the United Republic. However, Zing Dang proved to not be done talking.
"I wasn't finished yet. There's a group of waterbenders and firebenders who live in the Misty Palms Oasis. They are less known as spiritual master healers, and some of them are even referred to as psychic. However, the fact that they even have the ability to bend is almost secret; they're having another profession to hide their real business for unauthorized, and that is selling those purple berries," Zing Dang finally revealed.
"Okay... I see... Good boy... Pei Qi! Grab the prisoner! Let's go to the Misty Palms Oasis," Lady Li-Hua said, as they started walking.
Zing Dang knew that he was telling the truth, but he wasn't afraid anymore; he was sure Miranda had came up with the plan by now.
Meanwhile, Miranda, Willy, Myrdin, Dandelion, Nora, and Ming had reached the oasis as the sun went down.
"So, what now?" Myrdin asked.
"I guess we just have to start ask people here if they've seen Zing Dang," Miranda said.
"That's stupid! The oracle told us that we would find someone here who can help us!" Nora said.
"So, what are you expecting, are we just going to stay here and wait for some mysterious guy to come to us?" Willy asked.
"Who said it was a guy who would help us?" Dandelion asked.
"Look. The oracle sent us here. I think we have to find this person on our own," Miranda said.
"Great. Fine. You're the Avatar, so I guess we should just do whatever you feel is right. I mean hey! You're the most important person in the world, aren't ya?" Nora said.
"Don't be rude, Nora. Let's just go," Miranda said.
The group went into a fruit drink bar.
"Hey! I've been here before!" Miranda said.
"That's right," the guy who worked in the bar said; he was a teenager as well.
"When you were Avatar Aang, you came here and managed to get a sweat professor's delicious mango drink on your breast. However, due to your airbending skills, you managed to clean up immediately. This professor is now lost in the Spirit World forever. And then, about seventy years later, when you suddenly had become Avatar Korra, you were here for something of a more important reason. You did a stakeout on a truthseer, who probably wasn't a really good one after all since he was actually lying to his metalbending boss. This guy is actually also lost in the Spirit World forever, so, unless you're planning to send me there too, you're all welcome to have a drink," he said.
"Wow, you've really done your research. I'm impressed," Dandelion said, as she shook hands with him.
"I'm Dandelion, who are you?"
"Name's Brutus," he said. If you sometime in the future need someone to do research for you, I'm the guy. I'm also a pretty good code breaker. Here's my card," he said and gave it to Dandelion, who seemed to be pretty grateful for it.
"So? What can I offer you?" Brutus asked.
Two men sitting in the bar pointed to that the drinks were really hard to describe; they were not good, nor bad.
"Actually, we don't have time for drinks. We're looking for a man named Zing Dang. He's the leader of the Laogai Village. Have you seen him?" Nora asked.
"Nope. Sorry," Brutus said, while the two customers shook their heads just to be sure they knew that they couldn't help them either.
"Look. We've been talking the oracle of Laogai, and it sent us here to find someone who can help us find him. Do you know who that is?" Miranda asked.
Brutus suddenly seemed a little nervous, but he did answer.
"Come with me," he said, as they left the bar and followed him to the Misty Palms Inn. No one was inside there. However, the group noticed a big sign saying that there were cheap berries to buy there.
"Marla? You have some visitors," Brutus said. The voice of an old woman was heard from the room behind the reception.
"Who is it?"
"It's... It's the Avatar," Brutus informed. The woman showed up.
"Hello, young Avatar. Miranda, right?"
"Yes, that's me."
"Come inside, Miranda". Miranda followed the woman into the room. Her friends had to stay outside.
A half hour passed, and the two returned.
"It seems like we don't need to look for him much more," Miranda said.
"What do you mean?" Nora asked.
"Your friend is arriving in the Misty Palms Oasis tonight," the woman said.
"How do you know that?" Willy asked.
"I'm a spiritbender; I've studied spirituality my whole life, and that has made me able to sense when someone is coming," she said.
"But, if Zing Dang is kidnapped by Lady Li-Hua, and he's arriving here soon, doesn't that mean..." Myrdin started.
"Yes. Lady Li-Hua is coming too," the spiritbender declared.
"Are you ready, Mira?" Dandelion asked.
"I'm ready. It's time to face Lady Li-Hua," Miranda said, as the team was ready to fight!
- I involved the thing about the drinks that were not good nor bad to make a new difference; in Avatar: The Last Airbender, the drinks seemed to be enjoyed, while in The Legend of Korra, the guy who made the drinks even himself had realized that his drinks were terrible, and this time, who knows what they were like?
- The way spiritbender alone, and we don't get to see what exactly they're talking about, is inspired by and similar to the way Iroh talked to Fung in "The Desert". talked to the
