Chapter 9: The Right Choice
"There is a storm coming. A big one," Uncle told me today. I had managed to recover my ship and we were now at sea.
"You're out of your mind Uncle. The weather's perfect. There isn't a cloud in sight," I said.
"A storm is approaching from the north. I suggest we alter our crew and head southwest," Uncle told me.
"We know the Avatar is traveling northward, so we will do the same," I said.
"Prince Zuko, consider the safety of the crew," Uncle said.
"The safety of the crew doesn't matter!" I said. Right then, Lieutenant Jee walked on deck. I turned toward him. "Finding the Avatar is far more important than any individual's safety!" I said and walked away.
That afternoon, dark storm clouds were rolling in. Uncle was right. I walked out on deck with Jee and Uncle.
"Looks like your uncle was right about the storm after all," Jee told me. My eyes widened in fury.
"Lieutenant! You'd better learn some respect, or I will teach it to you!" I threatened. Jee glared at me.
"What do you know about respect? From the way you talk to everyone around here, from your hard-working crew to your esteemed uncle, shows you nothing about respect! You don't care about anyone but yourself! Then again, what should I expect from a spoiled prince?" Jee ranted.
That's it! That's IT! I turned around and extended my right arm to Firebend. Jee did the same thing too. Uncle then stepped in.
"Easy now. Enough! We're all a bit tired from being at sea so long. I'm sure after a bowl of noodles, everyone will feel much better," Uncle put in. I stormed off.
To calm myself down, I meditated. While meditating, I had painful flashbacks of my past. I was stopped by a hit on the ship. I ran out on deck where the rest of the crew were.
"Where were we hit?!" I asked frantically.
"I don't know!" Jee shouted.
"Look!" Uncle called out.
"The helmsman!" I shouted. Jee and I raced to the ladder to help him. All of a sudden, a bolt of lightning nearly struck the ship but then Uncle redirected it. I then saw the sky bison flying through the air.
"The Avatar!" I said.
"What do you want to do sir?" Jee asked.
"Let him go. We need to get this ship to safety," I said.
"Then we must head directly into the eye of the storm," Uncle said. The helmsman turned the ship into the eye of the storm and we managed to get out unscathed and safe.
"I'm sorry Uncle," I said.
"Your apology is accepted," he said. I felt better that day. I had made the right decision.
This is his right decision after all.
