Chapter Three: Return to Guang
Chapter Three: Return to Guang
"So, the guardian spirit called himself Alang? Looks like it took him A-Long time to train you!" Beeno joked.
"Come on guys, that was a good one, right?"
"The guardian spirit isn't something to joke about. He is powerful and wise being,"said. " , I believe you are the first Avatar to be trained by a spirit. Think of it as a gift."
Naton nodded. "Will my parents be at the refugee camp?"
"They're probably are. The mountain paths are hidden and the dark-benders don't know this place very well," Kian explained. "It's near a dense forest, so I think we'll be fine."
Naton jumped over the stone, and turned to Onza. "The spirit said my chi paths were redirected so I couldn't bend for 24 years. Could a sage do that?" he asked.
"A sage? Do you mean a Fire Sage?" the old man replied.
"I don't know. He just said 'sage'. Can sages play with your chi?" Naton said.
"Not any ordinary Fire Sage. But perhaps you've encountered a very powerful one. Have to ever been to the Fire Nation?" Onza asked.
"No. I've lived in Guang all of my life."
"Have you ever met a Fire Sage?"
"I don't even know what that is."
They trek across a rocky hill, and ducked under a huge rock face. "The Secret Guang War Squad built this secret pathway for the citizens in times of emergency. Comes in handy,"said. "If they'd built it any later, the dark-benders would have killed us."
"Please don't talk about dying. I'm too young," Naton said.
Beeno laughed. "Boy, you're the Avatar. You'd better be ready to die-"
Karrie punched him in the arm. "Not helping."
"Look! The Ben Hai are here!" The refugee leader, Ko, ran up to them and bowed. "We all thank you for defending us!"
The police officers stepped forward. "Hey, it's that kid you disappeared! You're lucky the jail's ruined!"
Onza put a hand on the officer's shoulder. "He has been excused. This boy is the Avatar."
The officer's eyes widened. "The Avatar!" He turned to the crowd of refugees. "The Avatar has come!" The people cheered, and Naton smiled.
"Son?" Naton turned and saw his parents. His father was limping on his left leg. "You're.... the Avatar?"
Naton nodded. "Yeah, dad. I'm the Avatar."
Wushu hobbled over to him, and touched his face. "My only son, is the only hope in this war."
Naton hugged his dad. "I'm going to save the world."
The Ben Hai rested in tents, and Naton and Onza stood outside, watching the star-lit sky. "Have you mastered all four elements?" the master asked.
"Yeah. I mean, lightning is still pretty hard, and I tried making an ice sculpture, and I keep messing up on my ears," Naton replied.
Onza turned to the Avatar. "You must master all of the elements, only then will you have the power to defeat the Dark Lord."
Naton nodded. "So, I have to keep training?"
"Is there like, a fifth element? Hey, could you teach me lightbending?"
"I could, but-"
"Can you show it to me?"
"No. But I'll teach you later."
"Yes! Thanks, old man!"
"Call me Master."
That night, Naton lay in his bed, staring at the ceiling. He was the happiest he had been in years. He was someone important. He had power. He could save the world. Then he closed his eyes, drifting off into a deep, good sleep...
"Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!" The world was engulfed in darkness, cities destroyed, and the people in grave danger. The Dark Lord was standing on the broken statue of Avatar Aang, laughing maniacally. "The world is mine! No one can defeat me!"
Naton stepped up and pointed to the dark lord. "Hey! I'm the Avatar, and I'm here to defeat you!"
"Finally! I have met my match! Give me your best shot, Avatar!" Naton shot a fireball at the Dark Lord, and he deflected it. "Now, taste this, boy!" The dark lord flung a giant bolt of darkness, and the bolt cut through Naton's body. "Just kidding! You're just a helpless boy! No one can defeat me! The world is now mine! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!"
Naton fell out of bed, his head coated in sweat. He felt his chest. No hole. He took a deep breath. "It was just a dream." He peeked outside, and the camp was quiet.
"Naton." Onza was standing beside the tent. "What happened?"
"Oh, just a nightmare."
"Really, you were screaming and fell over in bed."
"Oh. Uh... I was fighting the Dark Lord, and I didn't stand a chance," Naton explained. O
nza nodded. "I think you need to learn lightbending."
"But not here."
"I know someone who can train better than I can. He lives not far from here."
"Do we leave now?"
"Go back to sleep. You'll need it."
Onza watched Naton go to sleep, and then stepped out of the tent.
"Master Onza!" Tazen ran up to him. "We have received news that the darkbenders and taken over the entire north part of the Earth Kingdom. Most armies have moved down south."
"They've gotten stronger. Some say they have powerful dark spirits in their army. What does this mean?"
Onza had a very grave look on his face. "It means we are running out of time."
