Book 1: Bloodbending
Korra hops out of the bed, gears herself up, and heads to the police station. "Saikhan! You have to help! Mako is gone and I received this message stating how to get him back". Korra looked very worried when saying all of this. "Mobilizing all units in your order Avatar Korra. I know something isn't right either because my officers left the ally and never returned. I haven't heard from them since."
Bolin had not yet known what happened to Mako until Korra appeared at his door. To her surprise, Asami answered the door.
"Oh hey Korra, What do ya need?"
"I need to talk to you and Bolin right now! It's an emergency!"
Korra rushed into the door, sat down on the couch, and told Bolin and Asami about Mako's disappearance.
"Well we can't just sit here! We have to do something about it!" Asami said.
"So is my brother missing or...dead Korra?"
"Missing as of right now. I don't think I can handle whatever took Mako alone."
Asami stands up and walks outside with Bolin following. Korra soon followed, thinking about how she's going to handle this. Korra, Bolin, and Asami searched everywhere for Mako. They looked in every dark corner of the street until it was dead night. Bolin heard a voice talking to him while they were ending their search.
"Did anybody just hear that?" Bolin asked. Korra and Asami seemed to not have heard him or seen him anymore. Soon they started looking for him as well. Bolin started yelling towards them, "Guys stop looking for me! I'm right in front of your faces!". It still seemed like it had no effect on Korra and Asami.
Bolin started to hear a voice and everything went completely dark.
"I've came for you Bolin. Your time has come. You don't know me, but I know you."
"Who is this? Where are you!?"
A small flicker of fire appeared in Bolin's face, just like Mako.
"I have a favor to ask of you Bolin, and if you fail to complete it, I'll end your brother."
The flicker of light became larger and he saw a vision of Mako. Mako was chained up in some dark area he really couldn't make out.
"What do you want?" Bolin said with a worried look.
"I want the Avatar's spirit. Kill her, and you can have your brother back. I promise."
"Kill Korra? I'd never do that! I'd rather fight you myself!"
"I also have someone else you might want to meet."
The flicker of light became small again, went behind Bolin's head, then went back in front of him and became larger. Bolin's mother and father appeared as well, being chained up and used as apparently slaves.
"Mom? Dad? That's impossible. Mako and I saw them die! Just get me out of here or you'll regret it!"
"Relax Bolin. It's really your parents. They have died, but now they're here with me. Do as I ask, and you'll have your brother and your parents."
Bolin's worried look turned into a thinking look. Then he appeared in an ally where he came out to greet Korra and Asami.
"Bolin! Where were you! You had us worried sick!" Asami said. Korra walked up next and said,
"Yeah, you can't just disappear on us when we need you the most."
"I'm sorry, I...I was just looking for Mako. I'll get him back, whatever the cost may be."
That night, Korra slept over Bolin and Asami's house and was secretly practicing Bloodbending, which is still illegal. She tried bloodbending anything that would pass by just outside in their backyard. Anyone could have seen her, but shes lucky nobody did.
Korra practiced her techniques day and night, and Bolin had finally made up his mind about what he will do to get Mako back. One day Asami walked by as Korra was bloodbending a rat that passed by.
"Korra stop it! What are you doing?! That's illegal and evil. You know that."
"Asami I have no time for your crap right now. I'm doing whatever it takes to get Mako back."
Bolin came outside with the two girls and stared at them both.
"Me too," he said, and he walked back into the house with a sad look on his face. Asami soon followed him as well, but warned Korra, "You better hope nobody spots you bloodbending. Otherwise you'll be known as an evil Avatar in their eyes. Just be careful."
Korra only decided to learn bloodbending because she felt she was too weak to stop whatever force this was. As she remembered from her days with Amon, she couldn't do much even with the 4 elements she possessed. She had to expand her bending to extremes. She studied night and day on Bloodbending and a little Metal Bending.
Lin walked up to Korra's house one day when Korra returned home and they talked about how they were going to stop this. Chief Saikhan has done nearly nothing at all to stop whatever was happening.
"Lin I have to ask you a favor."
"Yes, what is it?"
"I need to learn metalbending to improve my fighting techniques."
"I suppose I can teach you, as long as you treat me with respect, unlike how you did when you first started learning with Tenzin."
"I'll do anything Lin."
"Very well then. First lesson starts now. Now excuses!"
"No, I can't right now. I have to go to Peace Ambassador Zuko's retirement party in a few hours. I thought you were coming as well?"
"I am going, but that's more than enough time to begin! We must use all the time we can get to train you. We need to end this as quick as possible, whatever this is. It could possibly be a kidnapping, but it can also be something more severe by the looks of that letter you received. Let's get to work."
Meanwhile, the voice was back in Bolin's head and everything around him became dark. The flicker of fire appeared again.
"Have you made up your mind Bolin? I have no time to waste."
"Yes, I'll do as you ask. As long as my brother and parents return safely!"
"Yes they will return safely, and you will have your life back. I'll give you one month to take the Avatar's life. If not, I'll take yours."
