Chapter 10: A Stealth Mission
We were in the helmsroom deciding on where the Avatar was.
"We haven't been able to pick up the Avatar's trail since the storm. But if we continue heading northeast-" Jee began but then, a giant Fire Navy ship passed.
"What do they want?" I asked.
"Perhaps a sporting game of Pai Sho," Uncle suggested. Uncle, if they really wanted Pai Sho, then they'd just ask. Two soldiers came into the room.
"The hunt for the Avatar has been given prime importance. All information regarding the Avatar must be reported directly to Admiral Zhao," one soldier said. I frowned darkly. Not that dog.
"Zhao has been promoted? Well, good for him," Uncle said.
"I've got nothing to report to Zhao. Now get off our ship and let us pass," I ordered.
"Admiral Zhao is not allowing ships in or out of this area," the soldier said sternly.
"GET OFF MY SHIP!" I demanded. They walked away.
That evening, I was on the deck practicing my Firebending when Uncle came.
"Is everything okay?" he asked. "It's been almost an hour now and you haven't even given an order," Uncle said.
"I don't care what they do," I said.
"Don't give up hope yet. You can still find the Avatar before Zhao," Uncle assured me.
"How Uncle? With Zhao's resources, it's just a matter of time before he captures the Avatar! My honor... my throne... my country... I'm about to lose them all," I said sadly and I stared out at the ocean. Later on, I heard that Zhao had captured the Avatar.
I won't let that man claim my prize, though.
It's time to resurrect an old spirit story.
It's time to be... the Blue Spirit.
That night, I hid in the bushes outside of Zhao's fortress, wearing black clothes with dao swords and the Blue Spirit mask. I must not say a word or Firebend because one sound from my mouth, one spark of fire, could give me away.
I saw a cart that I could ride on. When no one was looking, I ran underneath the cart and hid. A soldier immediately walked to the other side so I quickly got into the back. When it arrived, I quickly went into one of the towers. I stealthily passed Zhao who was giving a speech. I went deeper into the fortress and let myself go into the drain. When I came above, I silently defeated two guards. Another came down the hallway. I used Firebending to knock him out. I hid on the ceiling and when two more guards came, I hung them to the ceiling. I saw the last guard about to take his horn and send a signal when I threw my dagger across and knocked it out of his hand. I then defeated the guard.
I opened the door and saw the Avatar. He gasped in fear when I took my swords out. I then sliced his chains and sliced off the shackles as well. I walked to the door.
"Who are you? What's going on? Are you here to rescue me?" the Avatar asked. I opened the door and beckoned for him to come.
"I'll... take that as a yes," the Avatar said. We continued to silently pass guards until we entered the drain. I peered over the edge and signaled to the Avatar to follow me. We left the drain. We were scaling the walls when a horn sounded.
"There! On the wall!" a guard yelled. Another guard then cut the rope and we fell down. I pointed to an open door and we ran towards it. The doors began closing and a line of guards blocked the way but the Avatar used Airbending and blasted them away. As he ran, I was surrounded by guards. I fought them but he Airbended them all away and Airbended me on the top of the wall. He and I worked together to fight our way out. I considered letting the Avatar go for a moment when Zhao came out.
"The Avatar must be captured alive!" Zhao said. I quickly used this opportunity and drew my swords around the Avatar's neck. Strangely, Zhao let us leave. As I walked out, an arrow came soaring towards me and struck the mask. I fell to the ground, my cover blown and unconscious.
When I woke up, I was in a forest grove, the Avatar sitting beside me. He was talking about how he used to be friends with some people in the Fire Nation a hundred years ago.
"Do you think we could be friends?" he asked me. I didn't answer. I shot a bolt of fire at him. However, he escaped. I managed to get back on the ship in my full armor.
"Where have you been Prince Zuko? You missed Music Night! Lieutenant Jee sang a stirring love song," Uncle asked.
"I'm going to bed. No disturbances," I said. When I got to my quarters, I removed the armor, shoes and shirt. I lay in bed, thinking about the Avatar. I turned to the Fire Nation flag that hung across my wall. Then, I turned away from it, angry that my plan had failed.
So sorry about the delay
