"I am not going to sit around and watch as Milou throws our nation out of balance again!" |
— Aiya to Team Avatar. |
Aiya is half of the current incarnation of the Avatar and half of the second Avatar in Avatar Korra's Cycle. Aiya was born, along with her brother, in the city of Zaofu to Bolin and Opal. Aiya spent only a few days with her parents before the Society of Faces kidnapped her and her brother and took them to their secret sanctuary in the Si Wong Desert. While there, Aiya trained and mastered Air- and Waterbending, while her brother mastered Fire- and Earthbending. After years of verbal abuse and pain, Aiya and her brother decided to escape and now they live in Republic City with Hogosha, Moa and Puren.
History
Early Life
Aiya didn't have much of a childhood. After she was born, she was with her parents for only a few days before the Society of Faces took her and Lei away from Zaofu. Aiya then grew up in the Sanctuary of the Society of Faces and learned from and was trained by Emma, Clyde and the other instructors that were there.
207 AG
Aiya, being fed up with Zhu Milou's harsh punishments and rude behavior, managed to escape with her brother and the two then made their journey to Republic City. After reaching the United Republic of Nations, she lived with her brother and their new friends, Puren, Moa and Hogosha.
Personality
Aiya is sweet and caring for all, even those who hurt her, physically and mentally. Lei often compliments her on how she is the kindest girl in the Earth Republic. The only times Aiya can be harsh is when someone hurts her brother or friends.
Abilities
Airbending
Aiya surprised both Zhu Milou Hu and Clyde when she excelled in the art of Airbending so easily. Ever since then, she has used Airbending to perform simple tasks, but prefers to use Waterbending when in combat.
Waterbending
Waterbending also came easy to Aiya and she managed to learn it before her brother Lei, who, at the time, had been struggling to learn Firebending.
Healing
Aiya was taught at a very young age to heal and used this technique to help members of the Society of Faces who had been injured.
Bloodbending
When Aiya was ten, Tarrimae began teaching her the art of Bloodbending and helped her to quickly excel at it; she soon grew stronger than Tarrimae and was able to bend the blood of something as big as a shirshu. Ever since she left the Society of Faces, Aiya rarely uses her Bloodbending abilities, because they are too dangerous.
Trivia
- Aiya's name means "lovely" or "pure" in Chinese.
- Aiya and Lei are the first case where the Avatar Spirit has been split between two different people.
- It is revealed in "Of Masks and Men" that Aiya can Bloodbend and that she was taught the technique by Tarrimae.
