|— Aang to Bumi in "|
Aang was born to two unnamed Airbenders in 12 BG, and was given to the monks of the Southern Air Temple. Due to the signs of a possible war, Aang's identity as the Avatar was revealed to him at the age twelve, four years earlier than the traditional age of sixteen.
However, after learning that he'd be sent to the Eastern Air Temple in order to complete his Airbending training far away from his mentor, Monk Gyatso, who other monks thought to be too soft on him, Aang ran away on his flying bison Appa. Shortly after running away, Aang and Appa were caught in a storm, crashing in the water and being swallowed by the waves. Aang saved himself and Appa while semi-unconscious by entering the Avatar State, freezing the two in a sphere of ice by using a combination of Airbending and Waterbending.
Aang and Appa awoke a hundred years later when he was freed from the iceberg by Katara and Sokka. Aang learned that in the hundred years that he had been gone, the Fire Nation had waged a war with the other nations, wreaking havoc on the world. Aang later learned that he had to defeat Fire Lord Ozai before Sozin's Comet arrived or the Fire Nation would emerge victorious.
Aang, Katara, and Sokka embarked on a journey to help Aang master the four elements. Katara became Aang's Waterbending master.
Along the way, the trio met several new friends including two that would become Aang's teachers. They met Toph in Gaoling who became Aang's Earthbending teacher. Later, Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation, who previously traveled the world in an attempt to capture the Avatar, became Aang's Firebending teacher.
After nearly a year of training, Aang finally faced the Fire Lord during Sozin's Comet. There, he stripped Ozai of his Firebending and ended the war.
Life in Ba Sing Se
Afterwards, Aang and his friends went to reside in Ba Sing Se. Earth King Kuei ordered a fountain to be constructed in honor of the gang and their achievement in ending the hundred year war. It was named the Four Nations Fountain because of the vivid colors artistically painted on its sides: blue, red, green, and yellow, representing the four nations.
Aang and Katara began dating a few weeks after end of the war. On their fourth date, Aang asked Katara to be his girlfriend at the Four Nation Fountain. She gave him a big kiss, thus beginning their official relationship.
Eventually, Katara, Sokka, Toph and Suki grew weary of Ba Sing and longed to go visit their old homes. They asked Aang if they could revisit their homes. Aang thought of a better idea; travel the world again and visit friends and important locations that they've been to before; the plan was decided. Aang asked the Earth King if they could keep their house in Ba Sing Se while they journeyed around the word. Aang also asked him for six extra keys to their house. The Earth King gladly consented to both. After gathering food and supplies, they left Ba Sing Se for Ember Island.
A New Journey
After eating breakfast on Ember Island, the gang ventured to the beach where they saw three groups of people around a net. A man, named Kurin, told them it was time once more for the Fire Nation Sporting and Games Tournament. The gang decided to participate, their team color being blue and their team name being Team Avatar. They won the tournament and the prize of a hundred gold pieces and tickets to the double play event at the Ember Island Theater. The two plays were titled Legend of Mei Lien and When Air Nomads Walked The Earth. While Aang did enjoy both plays, When Air Nomads Walked the Earth made him think about the Air Nomads and how they were gone. The play night ended and the gang walked back to their beach house while Aang still had the latter play's ending fresh in his mind.
The next day - before they left for the Western Air Temple - Aang saw Kala, the writer of When Air Nomads Walked the Earth, walking on the beach. Aang approached her. She told him to appreciate what he has now: a new family. This cheered Aang up and he and the gang proceeded to fly to the Western Air Temple on Appa.
During the trip, Aang had a nightmare about the Air Nomads. He, Aang, wasn't the Avatar and he had never met the gang. Something woke him up from the dream: Hawky. He had Toph's parents' letter with him. They let her choose whether she wanted to come home with them or stay with the gang. Toph needed time to think and so the trip continued. Aang thought about his nightmare and it encouraged what Kala had said, to appreciate his new family even though he misses his old one.
For some reason, Aang was still sleepy and drifted off into sleep and had another nightmare. This one took place in Ba Sing Se. Inside his own house, the walls were closing in on Aang. He woke up before they smashed him and stayed awake during the remainder of the journey.
The gang arrived at the temple where they received a message from Mai, stating that she was at the Boiling Rock. Mai had gone to a family reunion a few weeks back. Aang told Zuko to send her a reply, telling her that they would pick her up the next day. After the message was sent, they all went to sleep.
During the night, Aang had yet another nightmare. This one also took place in Ba Sing Se. Aang and Katara, after traveling there from the South Pole, appeared in the Earth King's Palace where an evil person was sitting in the throne, who had their back to them. Aang was knocked down and was about to be killed, but woke up just in time.
After eating breakfast, the gang flew on Appa to the Boiling Rock. On their way, Aang told the others about his nightmares and how there he believed there was trouble brewing in Ba Sing Se since two of his nightmares taken place there. They agreed on going to Ba Sing Se to see if there was anything wrong.
When the Boiling Rock was in view, Surface-to-air rocks were launched at the gang. They were coming from inside the volcano. Appa flew the gang down to the Boiling Rock and they saw Mai.
She greeted them and said that she didn't have anything to do with the surface-to-air rocks. Mai asked them if they wanted any food; Sokka did. He and the others went to the lunch room for snacks, leaving Aang alone.
After Sokka got his snacks, they were ready to leave for the Fire Nation School until the Dai Li attacked them. There were too many of them, so they decided it best to leave the Boiling Rock. Aang Airbended the Dai Li agents into the gondola and they set off.
The gang's next stop was the Fire Nation School. Appa landed next the cave that they were in last time they came here. Aang wanted to see his old friends at school again, so he walked to the school. Katara, Sokka and Toph accompanied him to make sure that the kids at school didn't attack him because he lied to them about who he was and since he ended the war when some kids may not have wanted that. The teacher, Ms. Kwan allowed Aang to stay in the class, because she was unhappy with the war and the damage it caused.
After class, Aang met up with Shoji. Then Hide appeared and was about to fight Aang until the headmaster showed up and took him to his office. Shoji, Aang and On Ji went to play Hide and Explode, leaving Katara, Sokka and Toph behind. They went to the cave while Aang played with his Fire Nation School friends.
Later, Aang returned to the cave, covered in ash. Katara told Aang that he couldn't stay in the school longer because they had to leave for their next stop. Aang finally agreed and they left for the home of Sokka's old master, Piandao.
When they arrived at Piandao's home, Sokka took Suki to the said home so that he could talk to Piandao about his adventures and what he learned. Meanwhile, Aang and the others went to Jang Hui. There, Dai Li agents attacked the village, but the gang managed to scare them off. Then, the gang helped fix damages that the Dai Li agents had done.
Afterwards, they flew back on Appa to Piandao's home where they picked Sokka and Suki up and left for Ba Sing Se.
Once the gang reached Ba Sing Se, they went to their home to decide of their next destination. They all agreed to go to the Earth King's Palace next and then headed there. On the way, Aang had completely forgotten about his nightmares and was very happy.
Arriving at the palace, the gang ran to the Earth King's Throne Room only to find Earth King Kuei sitting there in his throne. There had been no trouble at all. However, Aang wasn't convinced and decided to stay in the city another day just to be sure that there was nothing wrong in Ba Sing Se.
They stopped at their house to decide on what to do next. Zuko suggested visiting his uncle, Iroh, in his tea shop, so the gang went to the Jasmine Dragon.
Upon arriving there, the gang was seated at a table and while they waited for their order to be ready, Zuko went to talk to Iroh. Then, Joo Dee appeared at the door of the shop, yelling about the Earth King being kidnapped. The people in the shop began to run around it, all panicking about what might happen to them. Aang told the gang to meet outside with Appa while he went to find Zuko. Iroh then told him that Zuko had gone outside with the others. Aang thanked him and left the shop in a clam way, since everyone else had left.
Then Appa flew then to the Earth King's Palace where they found out they Earth Kuei had been brainwashed. The gang guards the palace, divided into pairs. Aang and Katara stayed in the Earth King's Throne Room.
Suddenly, Long Feng and his Dai Li agents attacked them. He also recruited Hama to get revenge on the gang. The Earth King sat there in his throne watching the attack, too shocked to move. A scream from Katara echoed throughout the Palace and Sokka heard it. He grabbed Suki and went to get the other members of Team Avatar to investigate why Katara had screamed.
Sokka then appeared in the throne room with the others and they tried to fight off the villains. But they reached a conclusion; there were too many villains to fight off so they ran back to Appa. As Appa took flight, Long Feng bent a rock at Zuko, causing him to fall to the palace ground. The gang didn't notice until a little while after, but they couldn't go back because they couldn't fight them all. They continued with their journey to Gaoling, but they would get Zuko back somehow.
When they arrived at Gaoling, they meet Xin Fu who took them to see Earth Rumble VI. There, Toph, secretly went off and played in it. She ended up winning. However, Katara was very angry that she didn't tell them that she was going to compete.
Next they headed to the Bei Fong Estate where Toph had to make her decision; friends or family. Aang walked and talked with Toph as they walked to the estate.
They were in the Bei Fong Estate when Toph made her decision. She choose to stay with her family. The gang, feeling sad that Toph left them, flew on Appa to the Northern Water Tribe while Toph stayed in Gaoling.
They reached the Northern Water Tribe two days later. They walked around the city to talk about what they were to do next. They decided that they were to go to The Mechanist so he could build them machines to help them stop Long Feng from starting another war.
Then when they went back to the palace, Chief Arnook told them to go to the Spirit Oasis. They did so only to have Koh bring them into the Spirit World. There, he tried to steal there faces, but they were resuced by Avatar Kuruk. They thanked him and found Avatar Roku, who showed them the way out of the Spirit World.
Once back in the Spirit Oasis, they returned to the Palace where Arnook planned a dinner and then he gave the gang a surprise: Zuko. Zuko then told the others the long story about how he escaped Long Feng and his followers.
Aang is fun-loving, somewhat naive, and adventurous. He possesses a deep respect for life and freedom, refuses to eat meat, and is often reluctant to fight. He craves the stimulation of new people and places. His frequent off-course detours frustrate both allies and pursuers alike. Yet Aang has always prided himself on a complex social network of friends extending over all four nations, and war will not stand in his way. In addition, he looks forward to playing with all the exotic fauna in each place he visits. Whether it's penguins, pig hog-monkeys or gigantic eels, no fit animal Aang sees goes un-ridden.
As the current reincarnation of the spiritual entity known as the Avatar Spirit, the spirit of the world in human form, Aang possesses the power and ability to bend all four elements, making him the strongest and most powerful bender in the world. Because the Avatar Spirit has mastered all the elements many lifetimes over, Aang has exceptional natural talent towards bending.
