Into the Throne Room Edit
“Now comes the part where I double cross you,” said Long Feng as he walked into the Earth King's Throne Room, the Dai Li following him. He had just come from jail.
He used to be the Grand Secretariat of Ba Sing Se. That is until the Avatar and his friends came to Ba Sing Se and revealed to the Earth King that he was conspiring against the Earth Kingdom, so he was arrested.
While in jail, he had the Dai Li agents, who remained loyal to him, spy on Princess Azula and her friends, who were disguised as the Kyoshi Warriors. They, the Dai Li, found out that the Azula and her friends weren't real Kyoshi Warriors and they reported the information to Long Feng. He struck a deal with Azula so he could gain control of Ba Sing Se. He gave her the control of the Dai Li while he was in jail.
Two of the Avatar's friends, one of their pets, Earth King Kuei, and his pet Bosco were just dragged away to jail by other Dai Li agents. Princess Azula was standing right in front of the Earth King's Throne, staring at Long Feng.
“Dai Li, arrest the Fire Nation Princess,” Long Feng continued, waiting. Nothing happened. Long Feng turned to face the Dai Li agents and told them, “I said arrest her.” He pointed at Azula, frowning. The agents still didn't move. “What is wrong with you?”
“It's because they haven't made up their minds. They're waiting to see how this is going to end,” said Princess Azula. She sounded so confident.
“What are you taking about?” Long Feng asked.
“I can see your whole history in your eyes,” she said. “You were born with nothing. So you had to struggle and connive and claw your way to power. But true power, the divine right to rule, is something you’re born with. The fact is, they don’t know which one of us is going to be sitting on that throne and which one is going to be bowing down.” Long Feng began to sweat. “But I know. And you know.” Azula sat down on the throne and crossed her legs. “Well?”
Long Feng began to sweat even more. He came to a conclusion; he lost. He closed his eyes and bowed to Azula.
“You've beaten me at my own game,” he told her.
“Don’t flatter yourself. You were never even a player,” Azula coldly said. “Now, Dai Li, take Long Feng back to his prison cell. You will stay there for the rest of your life!”
“B-bu-.” Long Feng couldn't find the right words to say. He couldn't do anything, but go quietly. There were too many enemies. He couldn't fight them all. He nodded to Princess Azula and walked to the Dai Li agents, his head hanging in shame. He lost. He had so much power moments ago.....or at least he though he did.
Two Dai Li agents put Long Feng’s hands behind his back and their Rock Gloves cuffed him. Without one back glance at Azula, Long Feng went with the Dai Li back to jail.
Back into the Cell Edit
When Long Feng and the two Dai Li agents arrived in the jail, they took the Rock Gloves off Long Feng and then immediately threw him in the cell. Long Feng fell to the hard metal floor as the agent slammed the cell door shut and quickly walked away.
Long Feng sat up and stared at the closed cell door, a look of fury on his face.
They betrayed me! Those idiots!! I was their leader and they betrayed me! And for a Fire Nation Prin-
Long Feng's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of metal crashing onto the walls of the metal hallway outside Long Feng's cell.
He heard voices speaking. They were coming from the cell on his right.
“Let's go!” one voice said. It sounded very familiar to Long Feng.
Another voice followed. “I'm not leaving without Bosco!”
Through the metal bars in the small window on his cell door, Long Feng saw shadows of figures running past his cell.
Long Feng recognized the second voice that spoke as the Earth King's voice. Then Long Feng remembered the first voice that spoke. It was one of the Avatar's friends; Sokka. He, the Earth King, and another person had escaped, probably heading for the Avatar, Long Feng thought.
And here he was, trapped inside the cell, having just being betrayed by the people he thought were his followers.
He then began to wonder. How did Sokka, the Earth King, and the other person escape? This prison is made of metal. All of it! How could they have escaped?!
Long Feng closed his eyes and gave a deep breath. He moved on from this subject.
It's all the Avatar's fault!!! He and his friends are the reason why I'm in this jail cell, the reason why I don't have the throne. I would have been crowned Earth King weeks ago had they not shown up. The Fire Nation Princess would not even be in the palace if I was the Earth King. If I was the Earth King, I would have banished her and her friends the moment they showed up at the palace.
Long Feng lay back onto the ground and looked up at the metal ceiling. He was just here in this cell, moments ago, when he thought he had the biggest chance of conquering the city. He closed his eyes, thinking about planning revenge on the Avatar, and then eventually drifted into a sleep.
A Source of Information Edit
“Dinner.” Long Feng heard a voice and then the sound of a metal tray sliding on the metal ground. He opened his eyes and sat up. He saw that a tray of fruits had been pushed into his cell through a small rectangular opening at the bottom of his cell door. A Dai Li agent looked at Long Feng through the metal bars in the little window that was located on the upper part of the door.
It was the Dai Li agents' job to deliver the food while the other guards patrolled the prison. Long Feng, when he was in charge of the Dai Li, set them to this job. He wanted the Earth King to believe that they had the same amount of ability as regular guards, so when he, Long Feng, decided to overthrow him, it would be more of a surprise of the Dai Li's ability.
The Dai Li agent stared at Long Feng for a few moments and then walked away.
Long Feng grabbed an apple from the tray and quietly ate it.
“Hey, Ganlin, did you hear what recently happened?” A voice from outside Long Feng's cell door spoke.
“No, Jetan, what?” Another voice said.
“Princess Azula of the Fire Nation and her brother, Prince Zuko just killed the Avatar!” Long Feng's eyes widened. He moved closer to the door, his ear inches away from the cell door.
“What?! Are you serious?”
“Yeah! And there's more bad news.”
Long Feng stood up and looked through the cell window. There were two male guards dressed in green armor suits.
“What can be worse than losing the only hope we had to defeat the Fire Nation and stop them from winning the war?”
“The Earth Kingdom is now under the Fire Nation's control,” Jetan said.
Silence fell over the two guards. They didn't speak at all until another guard came, this one too was male.
“What happened here?!” Long Feng saw the guard pointing at the cell next to his.
“Huh?” Ganlin said.
“The door?!” The guard that just came said. “Why is it here on the ground?”
“Um..” said Ganlin.
“The prisoner or prisoners must have escaped, Kiyan” Jetan said.
“Escaped!?” Jetan and Ganlin nodded his head. “Do you know what Princess Azula will do to us if she finds out that prisoners have escaped!” Kiyan said.
Long Feng saw Ganlin and Jetan shake their heads.
“She'll have us killed! Or imprisoned! We need to find the prisoners that escaped,” said Kiyan.
“Hey, wasn’t there a guard that just came by here?” Jetan said.
“Yeah. How come he didn’t pick up the door?” Ganlin said.
“He probably just didn’t want to tell Azula,” said Jetan. “because she might’ve thought he let them escape so-”
“Oh, just forget it! We need to find the prisoners; now!” said Kiyan. Then he, Ganlin, Jetan, ran away, searching for the escaped prisoners.
Long Feng sat back down and thought, thought about what he just heard.
Princess Azula conquered Ba Sing Se and the Earth Kingdom and she and her brother killed the Avatar! What?! She stole the throne from me, she made my agents turn on me, and she took over my home.
Long Feng's face began to grin. Forget about planning revenge on the Avatar now that he's dead. Now, I have to beat Azula at her own game. But, how? Well, I have a lot of time to plan it...
New Prisoners Edit
Two days passed and nothing interesting happened in the hallway. Nothing that Long Feng could hear or see at least. That is until the next day.
“Throw them in,” a cruel, yet calm voice said, one Long Feng recognized. He heard people slam into the cell across his. “Trying to hide the fact that three prisoners escaped under all of your watches, huh? Well, it didn't work.”
Long Feng knew who the voice belonged to. It was his main enemy now that the Avatar was gone; Azula.
Long Feng knew that the people that were being thrown in the cell were Ganlin, Jetan, and Kiyan.
There was the sound of a door slamming.
“Maybe next time you'll think twice before sleeping on the job,” Azula said.
“Do you need anything else, Princess?” a person said.
Long Feng stood up and peaked through his window, only to see that three Dai Li agents were standing just outside his cell.
Those traitors! Long Feng thought.
“Yes, I do. I need you to get all the other Dai Li agents and bring them to me in the palace. I need you all to come with me to the Fire Nation for protection and other things,” said Azula.
“Of course Princess,” a Dai agent said.
The three agents and Azula walked away.
She's taking the agents with her! To the Fire Nation! That princess needs to go down! I'll make sure of that...
More Information Edit
Months passed and Long Feng still found himself stuck inside his prison cell. He kept trying to form plans to get revenge on Azula, but all of them had flaws.
The Dai Li agents, Long Feng noticed, did, in fact, go with Azula to the Fire Nation for they no longer appeared to deliver the food to the prisoners. They were replaced by the regular guards.
Two guards usually met outside Long Feng's cell to talk to their old fellow guards, Ganlin, Jetan, and Kiyan, about recent news which became an advantage to Long Feng. He got news about Princess Azula and her whereabouts.
He learned that before Azula and the Dai Li agents left to the Fire Nation, which was confirmed by the guards, she ordered the agents to bring down Ba Sing Se's walls. They did so and the walls of Ba Sing Se were now gone.
A few weeks after that, Long Feng overheard the guards' conversion and heard something that he really didn't want to hear.
“Hey, guys, guess what?” a guard said to the other three that were imprisoned.
“What is is?” the three imprisoned guards asked. Long Feng's ear was touching his cell door.
“You'll never believe this, but the Avatar's alive!”
“Yeah, it's true!” guard said. Long Feng couldn't tell which guards was saying what, but it didn't matter. All that did matter was the information.
“How do you know?”
“There was recently an eclipse and the Avatar gathered an invasion force to attack the Fire Nation Capital. Their plan was to end the war there, since during the eclipse, the Firebenders can't bend. They had a much greater chance of stopping the war that day than on any other. However, they didn't win the invasion. According to the message that my friend from the Fire Nation sent me, the eclipse ended before the Avatar had found the Fire Lord, so he and his allies retreated. Most of them got captured, but the Avatar and his main team escaped.”
“So, the Avatar was alive after all.”
He's alive!! The Avatar is alive!? But how!? It's now Azula and the Avatar! They will both pay and I will escape from here someday, somehow.....
Another Piece Of Information Edit
A couple more weeks passed and Long Feng overheard a lot of interesting information from the guards.
“The war has ended!!!” Long Feng eyes widened and then he walked closer to the door. He couldn't believe his ears.
“What?” he heard a guard say.
“The war has ended!!!” the guard repeated.
“Really!? Yes!! But, how did it end?”
“Avatar Aang took Ozai’s bending away, therefore putting a stop to his reign of terror and ending the war.”
“How did he take Ozai’s bending away?”
“I don’t know. But I do know that Ozai has been thrown in jail and he will stay there for the rest of his life. The new Fire Lord is Ozai’s son, Zuko.”
“And what happened to Princess Azula?”
“Zuko and Katara, one of the Avatar’s friends, fought her. At first it was just Azula dueling Zuko while Katara watched. Apparently, Zuko told her that he could fight Azula on his own and that way she, Katara, wouldn’t get hurt.
“However, at one point in the duel, Azula shot lighting in Katara’s direction, but Zuko took it for her. Then, it was just Azula versus Katara. Eventually, Katara chained Azula down to the floor. I heard that Azula was mentally unstable during the battle. She was then transferred to the Fire Nation’s Mental Health Facility.”
What!? Long Feng thought as the guard’s conversion continued.
“Whoa! Why did she go crazy?”
“No one really knows except her and probably Zuko.”
“So, the war’s over? Wow. I can’t believe it. One hundred years of battling against the Fire Nation and losing loved ones to them and it was all put to a stop by a twelve year old kid during the time in which the Firebenders achieved the greatest power they could posse.”
“Well, technically, Avatar Aang is a hundred and twelve years old.”
“Still, the Fire Lord lost to a person who was not only an elder, but a kid at the same time.”
At this point, Long Feng lost interest in the conversion and instead focused his attention on what he had just heard. Azula went crazy? The war’s over? Whoa… So, now what do I do? I don’t need to get revenge against Azula anymore; she got what she deserved. All I have to do now is to get rid of the Avatar and his friends. But, where are they now? And how do these guards know all this information?
It was as if the guards outside read his mind because at the moment, Long Feng’s question was answered.
“The Avatar and his friends are apparently, now staying in Ba Sing Se to live here.”
“Well, that’s great for them. They deserve have a peaceful life after what they went through.”
Here in Ba Sing Se, eh? Long Feng thought as the guards began to talk about Kuei’s return to power as the Earth King.
A Painful Memory Edit
More lonely months passed by for Long Feng. He formed many plans but all felt too impossible to achieve. Eventually, he just gave up. He was exactly what his father always called him when he was young; a failure.
Long Feng thought about his father and how he hated him; it was the time when Long Feng was ten. Some kids from his school were mocking him and then beat him up because he, Long Feng, had no friends at all during his time in school.
Long Feng remembered the day only too well.
He came home with several bruises and a black eye.
When his mother saw him walk through the door, she ran up to him and asked, “What happened, dear?”
“I got beat up today at school-”
“Good! He deserves it!” his father’s loud voice came. “He’s a wimp. A disgrace to the family; the only person in our whole family who isn’t an Earthbender. Everyone who’s been in the family is an Earthbender, except you. ”
“But I am an Earthbender! I can Earthbend a rock into the air.”
“Look kid, picking up a rock with your hands and throwing it up in the air isn’t Earthbending,” said his father.
“But I didn’t pick it up with my hands; I Earthbended it! Why don’t you believe me!? Why do you hate me!?”
“Get out of here! Go to your room!”
His mother stared at both of them in silence, tears pouring from her green eyes.
As Long Feng walked by his father, he said, “You’re a failure! You always have, you always will!”
Long Feng ran to his room and, like his mother, tears were falling from his green eyes.
And he was right, Long Feng thought, his mind now back inside his prison cell. I’ll always be a failure.
“Okay, you’re free to go! Come on out, you three.” Long Feng heard a voice coming from the hallway. He looked out the window. “After much time considering it, Earth King Kuei has forgiven you for your crimes, stating that ‘Accidents can happen’.”
Long Feng heard the sound of a metal door opening followed by several ‘thanks’ from the three guards. They then walked away.
No! I’m not failure! I’m not going to give my father the satisfaction! I’m busting out of here. But how!? Maybe the Earth King can forgive me like he did with those three other guards. No, that won’t work. But, no. Maybe I can- no that’s too risky. HOW DO I GET OUT OF THIS JAIL CELL!?
Finally, after about a year of carefully planning his escape and revenge, Long Feng put his plan into action. Long Feng saw a guard walk by his cell; this was just what he needed.
“Excuse me guard, can I ask you a question?” Long Feng politely asked.
“What do you want?” the guard said.
“Well, it’s just that-” Long Feng punched the guard’s face through the bars in the window. Long Feng managed to grab the keys that were hanging from his belt. He unlocked his cell and, for the first time in about a year, stepped outside of it. He ran through the hallways. He was determined to get to the gang’s house tonight and kill them while they were all asleep. But he stopped when he passed the guards’ lounge.
He heard one guard say, “Did you hear that the Avatar and his friends are traveling the world again?”
“What? No way!”
“Seriously. I’m not sure why, though.”
“Maybe they were just tired of Ba Sing Se.”
“Probably. I know I am. I really want to leave…..”
Oh yes, they just happen to say this as I sneak by. What is it with these guards? They just love to give news to each other right in front of me. W-wait, what?! They left!? Now, where did they go?! I’ll worry about that later. Good thing that I had a backup plan in case something like this would have happened. Now I need a hot air balloon. But, where can I- aha!
Through the open door on his right, Long Feng spotted a hot air balloon parked there. He also saw that it was raining.
He quietly ran outside, jumped into the hot air balloon’s basket, started the engine, and the balloon began to rise.
An evil grin spread across Long Feng’s face.
Don’t worry Aang, you’ll soon be reunited with the Air Nomads…
Author's Note Edit
I really enjoyed writing this chapter! It goes through several of the show's main events and presenting them to the readers of this fanon. I went into detail of the Coup of Ba Sing Se in the beginning of the chapter because I didn't want readers to be confused, even though all of them have most likely already seen the show. I hope you all enjoy this chapter as a great start to my brand new fanon. :)
