Getting in Touch (coming soon)
June, 316 AG
An average boy named Azulon was born and raised in The United Republic of Nations. He was a handsome young man. 5' 7 inches, Black hair that extended about two inches past his shoulders, good-sized muscles, fair skin, and stunning blue eyes, which is very unusual for a firebender. His sweet sixteen was approaching fast and Azulon couldn't wait.
The Order of the White Lotus promised him that his sixteenth birthday would be a birthday he certainly wouldn't forget. The members would always exchange glances every time they told him that. It was almost as if they knew something Azulon didn't.
Azulon's best friend was a beautiful girl named Ming. She was just as tall as Azulon, wore typical Southern Water Tribe clothing, she was very skinny, and spoke softly. She was unbelievably shy. She would be a complete outcast without Azulon, who could not be more opposite than her since Azulon is very social, loves sports like pro-bending, and tends to be very arrogant.
Sozin, a very old man from The Order of the White Lotus, woke Azulon up in his room on his birthday.
"Wake up..." Sozin said in a whispering voice, "Hey...Azulon...Wake up..."
"Azulon..." he said in his normal talking voice. "Come on, time for your big day..."
Still no answer.
Sozin screamed, "AZULON!!!"
"Nooooo," Azulon said, "I don't wanna go to school today."
"Huh? No, it's time for your birthday party to start."
"Uuuuuuugh!" Azulon groaned loudly.
"Hey! Don't groan like that. You have a huge day ahead of you and it all starts with the message The Order and I need to give to you."
Azulon sluggishly got out of bed and got ready for his party to start.
Azulon's eyes tried desperately to get him back to sleep, but there was no time for that. Azulon's big day was about to begin. He was going to get thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of presents, he was going to get to hang out with a bunch of his friends. So basically, it was going to be just another birthday...or so he thought.
Azulon made his way to the foyer of his massive mansion and saw hundreds of people crowded at the bottom of his stairwell. Azulon was extremely puzzled. Who were these people and why were they in his house? Something wasn't right.
Sozin walked up the stairs to Azulon.
"Uh...hi." Azulon said puzzled. "Who...who are all these people and why are they in here?"
"They are here to see a very important person."
"What? Why would they care about my sixtee--"
Interrupting Azulon, Sozin pulled a microphone out of his robe and said, "Citizens of Kasai, behold your new Avatar..."
No...no...it can't be...no...
Azulon stood frozen for a solid minute trying to process what Sozin just said.
Me...the Avatar? This has to be some kind of terrible joke.
Azulon snapped out of his trance and whispered into Sozin's ear, "Sozin, can I talk to you over there for a second?"
The both of them made their way into Azulon's bedroom. Azulon shut the door behind him.
Azulon said angrily, "You wanna tell me what the heck is going on here?"
"Did you not hear what I said a minute ago? You're the Ava--"
"Don't...even...finish...that...sentence. Now, I don't know how you got everyone in town in on this, but I want you to stop this joke RIGHT...NOW."
Sozin was puzzled. "Joke? This is no joke, my boy. You are the next Avat--"
"No no no," Azulon interrupted again, "I can't be. I am nowhere NEAR a firebending master. Heck, I'm not even as good as a four-year-old...who doesn't even know what firebending is. I can't even bend any of the other elements anyways. How am I suppose to be the Avatar when the best I can do is singe a leaf?"
"It may seem impossible, believe me, we've run hundreds of tests on you because we were thinking the exact same thing, but your spirit is stronger than any person on the earth right now. A strong spirit is a true sign of an Avatar. You never give up. You never quit. That's what makes you the Avatar."
This idiot is making absolutely no sense. The Avatar HAS to be able to bend all four elements. Time for him to retire.
"Whatever." Azulon said, "Like I'm really gonna listen to a 2,000 year old mummy."
Sozin screamed, "HEY!!!" as Azulon stormed out of his room.
Azulon stormed into the foyer and everyone cheered ss soon as he did. Azulon payed no attention and made his way down the stairs, and out the door. Everyone got puzzled looks on their faces.
"What's going on, here?" asked someone in the crowd.
Sozin stepped into the foyer, "Don't worry, everyone. Everything is fine. Just wait here and talk amongst yourselves while I get the Avatar."
Just as Azulon did, Sozin made his way down the stairs and opened the door. He expected Azulon to still be nearby, but he was nowhere to be found.
Meanwhile, in the Kasai Farmers' Market, Azulon was looking for a place to hide and think. He was running around like a madman; he was running as fast as his legs could carry him and sobbing at the same time. Everyone he passed gave him weird looks.
All of a sudden, someone called out to him, "Hey, stranger, where you going to in such a hurry?"
Azulon payed no mind and kept looking for a spot to hide and think
The man called out to him louder, "HEY! STRANGER!"
Azulon stopped and turned around. The man calling out to him was Zolt (the same one from Book 1, but Azulon doesn't know who he is yet).
Azulon said, "Me?"
He responded, "Yes, you."
Azulon sluggishly made his way over to Zolt's stand.
Zolt said, "So, where you headed, stranger?"
"My name is Azulon and...I don't know what I'm doing. You see..."
Azulon proceeded to tell Zolt about all the events that had happened up to that point. Not at any point during his story did Zolt's facial expression change. It was almost as if he knew all those events happened even though he would have had no way of knowing any of them happened. Azulon intentionally stopped telling his story before it ended and tried to leave. There was something odd about him to Azulon. There wasn't really any way he could have explained it. He just seemed...untrustworthy.
When Azulon's story finished, all Zolt had to say was, "Hmm...interesting."
Azulon responded, "Uh...yeah."
"So, where did you say you were going to in such a hurry?"
"Uh, I don't know. I guess I'll just go climb Kasai Mountain and think."
Zolt smiled, "Oh, I see. Well, I guess you'd better run along then."
Azulon stood still for a moment and stared at him curiously before running away from him as fast as humanly possible.
"That's right," Zolt whispered, "Run. It'll come in handy later.
After running for thirty minutes straight, Azulon made it to Kasai Mountain, the tallest mountain in the world behind K4. It was much more enormous than Azulon imagined it would be. It was 250 miles in diameter at the base and was 36,000 feet tall. The only way to get to the top was to airbend your way up, as the mountain was way too slippery and steep to climb below 10,000 feet. Because of that, nobody had climbed it yet.
After catching his breath, Azulon used his airbending as a sort of jetpack to propel himself above the 10,000 foot mark. Doing so required airbending for fifteen minutes strait, which took a lot out of Azulon. He decided this would be a good place to lay down and rest for a while.
Azulon took a look around him. He couldn't really see the ground thousands of feet below him since the clouds were covering it.
There was also a huge cave about twenty feet to the right. Azulon knew he would probably get lost in there since it was so dark, so he didn't want to explore it. Plus, he needed to relax. Azulon closed his eyes and went to sleep. He awakened a few hours later at sunset.
Darn it! Sozin's probably worried sick about me! I'll meditate real quick, then go back home
Azulon blasted his way to the top of the mountain. Once he got there, he sat down, crossed his legs, and put his fists together.
Azulon's great adventure had begun.
