Ember Island is a beautiful resort area located in the outer islands of the Fire Nation. Set amongst palm trees and luscious vegetation, it is home to many luxurious resorts and vacation homes for the wealthy and powerful. Many high-ranking Fire Nation officials have vacation homes here, and the island is viewed as the top vacation destination in the Fire Nation.[1] The private beaches are surrounded by mountains and dunes which create a private atmosphere for visitors.[2] The beaches are among the most popular in the country and host many popular kuai ball games. The island is less known as being the home of Ta Min, Roku's widow, during the last years of her life.[2]

History Edit

Among the many people who owned homes on the island were Lo and Li, Princess Azula's twin mentors, as well as Fire Lord Ozai's family. This particular home was abandoned, but the royal family used to spend their summers there when Azula and Zuko were still children. Lo and Li's house was rather small in comparison to all of the others, but it was nonetheless luxurious. A third house belonged to Admiral Chan, who was for some time on leave on the island with his family.

According to Lo and Li, Ember Island tends to cause its visitors to go into a sort of self-discovery.[3] One sort of allusion to this may be when Aang, Sokka, Katara, Zuko, Toph and Suki visit this island to watch the play, "The Boy in the Iceberg" which symbolizes the team's self-discovery.[4] Many have learned things about themselves that they were previously unaware of, including secrets of their friends and family.

During Zuko's childhood, the Fire Lord's family visited their summer home on Ember Island once every year. Several of Zuko's flashbacks revealed that the family was a lot happier during those days on the island, but that was long ago. More recently, Azula and Zuko returned to the island alongside Mai and Ty Lee and spent a couple of nights at Lo and Li's house while their father held a private meeting with his war council. While there, the gang learned more about themselves and each other, which helped the group to understand each other better and to soothe previous rifts in their friendship.[3] After Azula attacked the Western Air Temple,[5] Team Avatar made their way here, where they resided until the arrival of Sozin's Comet.[6]

Lo and Li's beach house Edit

Lo and Li have come to this beach house ever since they were infants, and inherited it after their parents died. Unlike all of the other beach houses, which are enormous and elegant, this beach house is rather small and in some disrepair. Not surprisingly, it smells a lot like old ladies, too. However, it is still a very comfortable haven from the politics that occupy everyday life back at the capital. When life in the Fire Nation Capital became too hectic, the twins escaped to their little oasis.[2] This is also where Azula and Zuko come to stay with their friends while the Fire Lord held a very private meeting back home.[3]

Ember Island Theater Edit

Possibly the best small stage, local theater in all of the Fire Nation.[4] The Ember Island Theater is supported by upper class Ember Islanders who like everything on their best little vacation spot just perfect. This theater was recently renovated and anyone who comes here almost always seems to comment about how delightful it looks. The plays however, are not as good as the theater.[2]

Ember Island Arcade Edit

Ember Island also houses an open-air arcade, which features a number of games and is very popular with younger crowds. One of the newest and most popular games is "Street Bender", where players can choose character dolls of popular characters like Prince Zuko or Avatar Aang, and for the price of a silver piece can fight with them using a series of joystick controls. Street Bender is very popular with children, and the occasional over-competitive teenager. Zuko and Azula played this game, with Zuko controlling himself and Azula controlling Aang. Every hit results in a loss of life bar; each player has three. Attacks can be enhanced by firebending into the metal control rods. In a fit of rage, Zuko over-used his firebending, causing the game to be destroyed.[7]

  • I feel Ta Min's Ember Island home and the Royal Family's beach house are the same.

  • when was the ember island arcade used

  • that is some nice fire lord house!!!! that my sort of dream house

  • Ember island reminds me of Hawii.

  • What episode did they go to the Ember Island Arcade in?

  • ember island really resembles Thai cultures and architectures. The enviroment also looks like Krabi island in southern Thailand. The only nearest place i can fell the Ember island from the avatar i guess in in Thailand :)

  • Is anyone going to add the Ember Island Arcade?

  • Anybody have any idea how long the Aang Gang spent their time here before the events of the finale?

    • I haven't delved too heavily into this to be sure. It wasn't just a short, mediocre stay though. They stayed there a little while - I'm thinking more than a week, more than two, perhaps, as well. The exact time? That's just up to guesses. Sokka freely adds that laying about the Fire Lord's house has made them all pretty lazy. Aang has gotten much better at his Firebending / training with Zuko. But yeah; just guesses...as of the moment I am unsure how this answer can be had.

    • The eclipse occurred on August 1 (or the first of the eight month.) Considering that Sozin's Comet reappeared at the 'end of summer', it couldn't have been a terribly long time.

  • Why the heck did Zuko vandalize his gorgeous summer home like that? And burn up a painting of his family? Zuko, if you dont like the house anymore, let me live there! :)

    • Because the house belonged to a womanizer and his friend liked Mai, who was already with Zuko. And Zuko wanted to burn the family pictures to convince people he didn't care, though Ty Lee could easily see through this. However, I want to say one thing:

Zuko Because i'm confused, because I'm not sure I know the difference between right and wrong anymore.

If he responds to womanizing and liking other peoples girlfriends with arson, he clearly doesn't know the difference between right and wrong.

    • ^ He wasn't his friend just an idiot who was trying to steal or talk to his girlfriend .

    • If memory serves, the only thing Zuko vandalized was the door. It was Chan's house, not Ozai's beach house, that was set on fire. Also, for all we know, Azula could have been the one that set Chan's house on fire; that part of the episode was really unclear. And as for Ruon-Jian (or however his name's spelled) trying to steal Mai... Pssh, he was never even in the running. Mai is clearly dedicated to Zuko - to the point she'd risk her own life for him. And on top of that, the only thing Ruon-Jian's in love with is his own hair. :-/ Indeed, it was almost embarrassing how insecure and childish Zuko was acting over Mai in that episode.

    • Zuko also drop-kicked a table and busted it clean in half. :)

    • Yeah, I remember that. I think I misunderstood MsBulma's question. The way the sentence was worded, I thought she was asking why did Zuko vandalize Ozai's (and by extension, his own) beach house; but she probably meant Chan's beach house. In that case, he only busted that table (and inadvertently, that vase earlier on). You know, I even wonder if Chan's house was set on fire at all. I always thought the flames behind them were simply for artistic effect. Did the creators of the show ever mention anything about it?

    • o.o good point. I wonder if they did burn the house. No; no mention, to my knowledge. But I'm gonna go with hello fire. Wow.

    • But if they burned the house down they would have killed people :S

  • Where did that Ta Min reference come from?

    • The old Avatar page on nick.com, in the characters section for Episode 3:06 the character bio for Ta Min said that she lived on Ember Island after Roku died.

    • hmmmm i never saw it in the episode "Avatar and the Firelord" ... coz it appears aang as a baby after fang covered roku... where is this really??

  • That Island reminds me of my home town. The ocean, the trees, the white sand..... it is just like home. The Island is truly one of my favorite episodes, if not my favorite.

  • Interesting...sort of like Nassau in the Bahamas.
