[edit] History
The form was introduced in "The Firebending Masters", in which Aang and Zuko travel to the Sun Warrior civilization in order to learn the origins of Firebending (at the time, they believed that the Sun Warriors and dragons were all long since dead). Aang and Zuko learned the technique by imitating statues they discovered in a certain locked room in the city. By imitating the statues, they activated an ancient key mechanism and revealed a sacred Sun Stone.
Aang and Zuko performed the move again when they were brought before Ran and Shao. Aang referred to this as dancing with the dragons. Ran and Shao then deemed Aang and Zuko worthy to understand the true meaning of Firebending. It is possible that Iroh knows this form as well, because he too was deemed worthy by the dragons.
Zuko incorporated the Dancing Dragon into his fighting style, and it greatly improved his skills, even to the point where he was able to duel his sister on even terms.
According to Zuko, the form is thousands of years old.
[edit] Connection
The Dragon Dance is based of 3 types of attacks: Low kicks, high punches or just high hits, and double punches with both fists. In real life, the Dragon Dance is based off Northern Shaolin Kung-Fu. It is fierce, quick, and strong.
