Crown Prince Headpieceedit
From Avatar Wiki, the Avatar: The Last Airbender database
The Crown Prince Headpiece is an ancient royal artifact of the Fire Nation, meant to be worn by the Crown Prince. The crown has two prongs, as opposed to the five pronged headpiece of the Fire Lord.
[edit] History
The headpiece was passed down from generation to generation, until it was inherited by Prince Sozin, who gave it to his friend, Avatar Roku. Roku kept it, and wore it for the rest of his life.
Sometime after the Avatar's death, the headpiece came into the hands of Sozin's grandson, Iroh. Roku was not wearing the headpiece when he died, and it was seen falling off his bedside table during the frantic escape and presumably buried along with the rest of Roku's island. It is unknown how Iroh came to possess it. Iroh later gave the headpiece to his nephew Prince Zuko, after leading him to learn the story of Roku and Sozin, and telling him that he is a mutual descendant of them, it is unknown what became of the headpiece after this as Zuko is never seen wearing it.
Although he was not wearing it when he died, Avatar Roku is always seen wearing the headpiece when he appears to Aang or manifests in the physical world through Aang. This may be because within the Spirit World an Avatar can control how they appear, or appears the way they perceive themselves.
[edit] Speculation
- It is unknown how the headpiece ended up in Iroh's possession as Roku was not wearing the headpiece when he died, and it was not even seen during the frantic escape. However given there is no sign of evacuation on the island it is probable that on the night of the eruption the headpiece was picked up by Ta Min before she and Roku fled. Subsequently it was either returned to the royal family or remained in the possession of Ta Min and her descendents, who would marry into the royal family anyway, and presumably passed down through the family eventually coming into the ownership of Iroh, who was once the Crown Prince.
- It is equally unknown how Iroh managed to keep the headpiece even through being taking captive unless he carried it with him through his daliy life. Possibly the same person who delivered Iroh's note to Zuko also obtained the headpiece and smuggled it into Iroh's cell.
