Son of the famous Admiral Chan (mentioned in "The Awakening"), Chan is one of the most popular, powerful and attractive Fire Nation teenagers on Ember Island. He is confident and conceited because of his family's status. He loves hosting parties in his parents' beach house while they are away.
Chan and his friend, Ruon-Jian, are impressed by Ty Lee and Mai when they come to Ember Island. The two decide to invite Ty Lee and Mai to a party at Chan's house. Chan is then interrupted by Azula who insists that she and Zuko are invited also. When Azula and the others arrive at his house, Azula mentions that his "sharp" outfit is so sharp that it could puncture the hull of an empire class fire nation battle ship leaving thousands to drown at sea. This "compliment" weirds out Chan and he awkwardly thanks her. Later, after Azula gets some tips from Ty Lee, she insists that Chan give her a tour of the house. He leads her out onto the deck and starts making a few jokes. Azula then compliments Chan on his muscular arms, then Chan then moves in and kisses Azula. He then calls her pretty and she replies with "Together, you and I will be the strongest couple in the entire world! We will dominate the earth!" coupled with a display of her unique blue flames. Chan then makes an excuse to leave, leaving her disappointed.
When Zuko pushes Ruon-Jian into Chan's Nana's vase, he kicks them out. Later that evening, Azula leads Zuko and her friends into severely vandalizing Chan's house during the party, leaving it a ransacked mess and moving Chan to tears.
