Cave-Hopper

From Avatar Wiki, the Avatar: The Last Airbender database

Toph surrounded by Cave-Hoppers

The cave-hopper is an white, jumping insect that can be found in the cool caves of the Fire Nation. Intolerant to sunlight, the cave-hopper resides most of its life inside dimly lit caves where it eats algae and other vegetation. Sadly, cave-hoppers are among the favorite snacks of the Toucan-Puffins. They have long antennae, two short front legs and two larger hind legs, ending in four-digit semi-webbed feet with toe-pads. It is unknown if Toph's remark on feeding of them means they're edible or if it was just her being sarcastic.

Cave-Hoppers first appear in "The Headband".

[edit] Connection

Cave-Hoppers seem to be based on cave crickets, with the difference that real-life crickets have six legs. Grasshoppers are herbivorous insects whose large hind legs are adapted for leaping, and they are generally brown in color, though young crickets sometimes appear translucent.
