A Buzzard Wasp

Buzzard Wasps live in caves they dug out of Si Wong Rock which is the magnetic center of the Si Wong Desert. These creatures are six legged insects that have a vulture like head and a bee or wasp like body. They have brown and white/gray stripes on their abdomen, the neck is dark grey with a light gray ruff at the body and have a beak. They have wings attached to their thorax and are capable of flight.

They will attack if provoked by something invading their nest. In such cases they can be considered dangerous. The gooey substance on their cave walls has the flavor of "rotten penguin meat," as Sokka remarked, which is the equivalent of honey and produced in a similar way.

It is possible they feed on carrion, though one of creatures captured Momo which may also mean that they feed on live animals. Aang managed to save Momo using his flying skills. Then in anger, sent a blast of sand several hundred yards knocking the creature down. It is not certain if the animal died or was stunned.

Buzzard Wasps appear in "The Desert" and in "Appa's Lost Days".

[edit] Connection

Buzzard Wasps seem to be a combination of a vulture and a wasp. Vultures are large scavenger birds that are distinguished by their bald heads.

[edit] Trivia

  • It is unknown if the creatures have stingers as they did not appear to attack the gang with them.
  • While Sokka was under the influence of cactus juice, he called them "circle birds."
