It has been a long time since the last tme I posted here.
I just wanted to add a question to the forum
I have been thinking about how a rpg of the avatar world would be. I think it would be interesting to set the world during the Kyoshi era, because I prefer to see the world how it was back then without the technology we have in Avatar: the last airbender and Legend of Korra. I have been thinking about how the bending would be implemented along with the specialized bending techniques
I decided that we would need to have the same amount of specialized bending techniques for every element, and every bending technique would need to have a difficult level, having the same amount of techniques of the same level in every element.
This said, I think we would need to differentiate what can be classified as specialized bending technique and what may not be classified or may not exactly have the need to be classified as one.
The techniques would be:
For air:
-Easy: sound bending (the creators said (I think I read that somewehere) that sound bending existed before the 100 year war)
-Medium (by medium I mean that you need to achieve some mental state to do it, like with lightning you need to have peace of mind): spiritual proyection (you need to have some connection with your spiritual side. I know in Lok it looks like really difficult because only Jinora can do it, but for the sake of the game we will say it's like lightning)
-Hard: flight
For water:
-Easy: Healing
-Medium: spirit bending (for the sake of the game)
-Difficult: bloodbending obviously
I didn't count plantbending because it is basically moving the water of the plants, I know it's classified as a sub bending style, but having only 3 and being plantbending considered easy I would count it as waterbending and not a specialzed technique
For fire:
-Easy: lightning redirection
-Medium: lightning (I know in Lok it looks like it is easy, but I will stay with the difficulty level they give it in Atla)
-Difficult: combustion
For earth:
-Easy: seismic sense (I know only a few know this technique, but I want to believe it's because they don't really need to learn it since most of the people can see perfectly. And remember how hard was for Aang to learn earthbending and still he was able to learn this, so I don't think we can classify seismic sense as medium)
-Medium: lavabending (Why not metalbending? Well, I know there are a lot of metalbenders in lok (1 in every 100 earthbenders) but in 10.000 years people have tried (I believe they had) to bend metal (see how they tell Toph: "even you can't bend metal", looks like people already considered that possibility and still failed, only Toph learned metalbending but she is the best earthbender in the world) and in 70 years from it's "discovery" already 1% of the earthbenders can bend metal? Doesn't sound right to me. In fact, I really dislike that idea, really. There are a lot of bending issues in Lok that I don't like so I want to stay as far from them as possible, but of course some people may not agree with me and like the idea of metalbending being easier and they may feel the need to explain me why it is easy. Before you do that, no need to explain anything. I'm sure there are explanations out there, that's nothing new. Still, I like the idea of metalbending being considered a difficult bending technique, and since we already see a few lavabenders in atla, I like the idea of lavabending being easier than metalbending. I know in lok it is the other way so if you like the idea of lava-difficult metal-medium I respect your opinion, please no need to explain anything)
-Difficult: metalbending
I'm already open to the idea of adding more techniques to the specialized bending category, but adding 1 more in 1 one the elements would mean we need to add 1 more for every other element with the same difficulty level.
One example would be:
Air:
Easy: sound bending
Medium-easy: spiritual proyection
Medium-hard: flight or suffocation
Difficult: suffocation or flight (I can't decide)
Water:
Easy: plant bending
Medium-easy: healing
Medium-hard: spirit bending
Difficult: blood bending
Fire:
Easy: lightning redirection
Medium-easy: heat redirection
Medium-hard: lightning
Didficult: combustion
Earth:
Easy: seismic sense
Medium-easy: sand bending (Why sand bending if it's basically earth? Well, bloodbending is basically water too, and it's not like it is easy)
Medium-hard: lava bending
Difficult: metalbending
We can add more like: energy reading, hyper sesitivity, lying detection or water sensitivity? (Like when Katara "sensed" how Rohan was going to be a powerful airbender) But again, we would need to change the chart again.
I also like the idea of some bending techniques being shared with other elements like: heat (fire-air), mud (water-earth), clouds (water-air) and lava (fire-earth). But that also means we have to change the chart again.
I would really like to make like a long chart with all the techniques above categorized as "special" and each one with a difficulty level and the same number in every element, but I feel it's going to be really hard.
What do you think?
