After "Smoke and Shadow", what story are you hoping for? I personally would love a story that fleshes out Iroh's past.

I would say , that everybody has different opinions and it is the right way. It should not be that way where everybody agrees, that would be dull.
I know, right.
Steampunk started out more upbeat, until dieselpunk gradually evolved out of it, & now most works take elements from both. They also draw from slightly different time periods, steampunk being more 1800s, & dieselpunk more early 20th century. This goes a long way toward explaining the thematic differences, because you're going from enlightenment-inspired stuff, to stuff drawing from the great depression era. If you know what you're listening for, you should be able to notice the transitions between themes & time periods, or at least that's my hope.
I think I've heard some of this before.
As for Comics I'd like to read, I'd just want some new, original characters that have their own adventures in the universe of Avatar, so we could explore the world from as many perspectives as possible.
Anything as long as it's interesting really. I just want it to continue up until Aang's death, filling the gap between Legend of Aang and Legend of Korra. Though I would like to see Zuko and Aang working on building Republic City, an official confirmation that Momo is the reincarnation of Gyatso, character development for Suki, Mai and Zuko's marriage and more sandbenders.
You're not going to get an official confirmation of that, because it's clearly a dropped idea.
Well, considering where the comics are headed, I think we can rule out an Iroh-backstory for the time being. Sure, they could cover that anyway, just outside of the main trilogy-series, but I don't think it will happen anytime soon. I understand why many are so bent on this idea and while it's a nice thought, I don't think it's necessary. Part of why I like Iroh is because of all the mystery that is surrounding him and I think if we got all the answers, some of his charm would disappear. His character would get a little 'boring', for a lack of a better word. That's why I'm also not too fond of the idea of getting all those revelations that people are craving for (e.g.: identity of Suyin's father, Izumi's mother etc.)
The only unanswered thing I actually really wanted to know was the whole story about Ursa's banishment, and we got that, so I'm fine for now.
Other than the resolving of mysteries, a lot of people want a engagement/marriage, which is another thing I can deal without. In case of Katara and Aang, we know that those two will get married at some point and have children together. We even know some things about their children and their grand-children, as well as their future life. While their marriage surely is an important point in their life, I don't feel the need to have it told. Again, the more you know about a character or an established universe, the less interesting it gets.
If we should get that, however, I won't complain either. It'd be nice, sure, but not a neccessity.
All right, on to what I actually would like to see in the future installments. Well, not a lot, actually. I don't have any specific wishes, so I'm open for things. I expect them to cover Azula's story, but do I want that? I'm curious about it, but not very excited about it. Personally, I would like to get away from the Fire Nation a bit because I feel like we've spent so much time there. I'm not a fan of politics in real life nor in the Avatarverse, but I know it's inevitable, so I suppose we'll get to see more of that one way or another. I am, however, curious about the alliance of the different nations and the eventual formation of the United Republic of Nations.
Regarding this one, I'm biased, but I really want to see more of Suki or the Kyoshi Warriors in general. It was nice that we got to see them in two Free Comic Books, but that's too little. I don't even remember their last appearance in the comics. Was it in The Search? Not sure, but if so, then it shows that it's been a really long time since we've last seen them, considering The Search is the mere second comic trilogy out of five (soon to be six). Maybe we'll get to see them in the next trilogy because, hey, you never know and I assume it will take place in the Earth Kingdom. On that note, while I get why the focus lies on the EK and FN, I'd welcome more Water Tribe. What about the Northern tribe? I do wonder how things were going there after Zhao's invasion and ... Wait, when was the last time we saw the Northern Water Tribe? ... Oh, right, in Book One: Water, not counting the brief appearance in TLoK. So yeah, that's another thing I would like to see.
Well, I can't think of any more I'd like to see, but here we go.
Just what you said Korra.
I have realised that telling things we already know, like the Kataang proposal and marriage, wouldn't be necessary.
But, is there anything that needs no be told at this point? Apart from the Kyoshi Warriors, who I really want to see as well since Suki is my #2 AtLA fav, I can't really think of more ideas of what might happen in between the two series.
But let's recap a bit, there are events in between the two series we are SURE they happened (shown in chronilogical order):
We know those events happened, now, except the Yakone incident, there are plenty of things that might have happened in between. However, all these events have never been shown (except 9, obviously), so I think it would be cool to see them even if we know they happened.
About Kataang's proposal. Will it give anything to the story? Umm, no, I have to agree with that. But, as a hardcore Kataang shipper (well, I don't think I would really call myself that much of a shipper to be honest), as well as a fan of good stories, I have to say it would be REALLY nice, and beautiful, to have a trilogy, at least the last one to be published (which, let's face it, no one wants it to be over), they end it with the mythical proposal. A bit cliché? Maybe, but to be honest, I personally like this type of clichés, and I don't really see any harm in it.
About stories themselves. As a fan of the Red Lotus (who's not), I want to see their rise and the story of that Xai Bau guy. Also, I already said this, but I'll say it again to make myself clear: MORE. AVATAR. BACKSTORIES.
We lost the connections with the past Avatars in Book Two: Spirits, and Korra and future Avatars won't get to see their experiences. However, we have the comics, in which Aang still has this connection. We saw in The Rift a cool Yangchen backstory, I loved it, and many people did as well. Ever since that, S&S and N&S lost that impact to me; though I still enjoyed them, it didn't feel much cool than in The Rift.

That said, I have no complaints if the story takes another turn an that doesn't get to happen, but I hope the writers of comics realize how much of a GREAT source of inspiration and storilines are the past lives of the Avatars, specially Kyoshi, Kuruk, or, like I said in other threads (sorry if it becomes repetitive but I want to highlight it), the Second Avatar, or the third even. Here I'm going to list a series of events Aang could learn of from the past:
Okay, this reply is getting too long, so I'm goint to cut it here. I hope I made clear something. I agree with many of your points as well.
I also want to see more of the past, before the events of ATLA. And some other aftermath of the war, but in different perspectives than before.
I would love to see everything everyone else has mentioned! And would especially like to see more of Iroh's past. His relationship with his father (he was obviously the favored son), his courtship and relationship with his wife, his childhood growing up with Ozai... I imagine their relationship mirrored Zuko and Azula's. On the other hand, I always got the impression that Iroh was a bit more vicious before Lu Ten died (fully willing to burn Ba Sing Se to the ground, and to commit troops to a 600 day siege...) Maybe Iroh was more like Azula, being confident and favored, and Ozai was more like Zuko. Who knows? A backstory could shed some light on this ;)
I also want to know who Zuko ended up with, damn it. More stories about the previous avatars - maybe an anthology, a different writer for each avatar...
since the Zuko/firenation comics seem to be the only ones that feature the entire team avatar, i would like to see even more of them.
and yes, knowing who will be izumi's mother would be nice
