Joo Dee This page documents an official Avatar Wiki policy.
It is a widely accepted standard that should normally be followed by all editors.

Signatures are generally required when making a post on a talk page. Despite the proliferation of communication modes on the wiki that do not need signatures, they remain an important identifier for users on many of our site discussions. Their central purpose is to attribute discussion contributions to users, and should not attract undue attention.

Customization[]

While it is not explicitly encouraged, signatures may be used as outlets for demonstrating the personality and creativity of individuals. However, when doing so, they may not:

  • Fail to directly allude to the identity of the user
  • Use colors that are difficult to read
  • Use more than two images
  • Contain any animation
  • Extend for more than one line once the timestamp is included
  • Alter line height, with an exception for "sprite" images
  • Use external links (links to non-Fandom sites)

In addition, if a signature contains an excessive amount of code and occupies too much space when editing, it will be required to be transcluded from the userspace.

Unsigned posts[]

The {{unsigned}} template should be added when a post is unsigned. There are two ways to do this:

  • {{subst:unsigned|<user name>|<timestamp>}} This is the best method. The timestamp for the unsigned post can be found in the page history.
  • {{subst:unsigned|<user name>}} This will leave a timestamp for when this template was added.

Always ensure you use subst:.

A message should also be left on their wall instructing them to remember to sign in future.
