Changing the profile quote (the colored box at the top of a large majority of articles) is something people can often debate about in the comments on Avatar Wiki. For that reason, Avatar Wiki centralizes these changes on this page.

Procedures

  1. The proposer posts their suggestion(s) here. The proposer must support their suggestion(s) with a sensible reason for replacement ("it is an accurate representation of the character/his or her role in the series").
  2. An administrator will announce the proposal on the community corner (this can be found below Hot Spots on Special:WikiActivity) if it is believed a grounded reason to initiate the quote change process has been given in the original proposal.
  3. Discussion about the proposal can begin. If a discussion ensues and:
    1. no general consensus appears to develop between involved users, then a ballot will be placed forward;
    2. the people involved are all in agreement, and after three days no one else voice their objections, then the quote can be replaced without voting.
  4. If #3 does not apply and, after three days, no one replies, then the quote can be replaced without discussion or voting.

Current proposals

Rejected proposals

This proposal has been rejected, because the proposed says nothing about Kya's personality -which is bravely sacrificing herself to protect her daughter. It just shows the natural reaction of a child being upset over the loss of her mother.

Kya

Current

"Just let her go, and I'll give you the information you want."
— Kya pleading with Yon Rha not to hurt Katara in "The Southern Raiders".

Proposed replacement #1

"You have no idea what this war has put me through! [Sits down.] Me personally! [She sits down and touches her necklace, begins to cry.] The Fire Nation took my mother away from me."
Katara to Zuko in "The Crossroads of Destiny".

The current one doesn't really say anything about Kya. The proposed depicts what a valuable being she was to her daughter and by whom she was murdered. The proposed gives an emotional feeling to the character, which is a good quality I like to see in quotes. The physical actions in brackets can be removed in necessary in the proposed.  Technology Wizard  Wall  Contribs  08:41, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

Approved proposals

Tenzin

Current

"I have done my best to guide Republic City toward the dream my father had for it, but you're right. It has fallen out of balance since he passed. I thought I should put off your training in order to uphold his legacy, but you are his legacy."
— Tenzin agreeing to train Korra at Air Temple Island in "Welcome to Republic City".

Proposed replacement #1

"Will you stay here and watch over Pema and the children while I meet with the council? With everything that has happened lately, I want to be sure my family is in safe hands. "
— Tenzin to Lin in "Turning the Tides".

I propose this new quote for Tenzin because I believe it shows more of his side of wanting to protect his family because he loves them, while remaining strong to his position on the Republic City Council. It also shows that he still trusts Lin because they were once in love. -Andrew2070 "Life is very short, and there's no time for fussing and fighting, my friend" 17:46, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

Approved for discussion. Lady Lostris (talkHotN) 16:17, August 4, 2012 (UTC)

Current. Tenzin still has a significant duty to Republic City and also to Korra, which is demonstrated in the current quote - in the meanwhile though, perhaps the proposed would work though on Tenzin's relationships for Lin. Current, per KFB. Icarlyftw talk to me 18:11, August 4, 2012 (UTC)

Current per KFB. Eat Cabbages, ...they're good for you... Yangchen-sprite Isn't little Yangchen cute? 05:10, August 5, 2012 (UTC)

Current, per everyone else. The proposed quote does very little (if anything at all) to dempnstrate Tenzin's personality or his role in the series. Prince James 18:55, August 5, 2012 (UTC)

Siege of the North

Current

"The Water Tribe is a great nation. There's a reason they've survived one hundred years of war. The frozen tundra is treacherous, the landscape itself is an icy fortress. We'll need a massive invasion force."
Zhao in "The Waterbending Master".

Proposed replacement #1

"This will truly be one for the history books, General Iroh. Just think, centuries from now, people will study the great Admiral Zhao, who destroyed the last of the Water Tribe civilization. You're lucky you're here to see it."
Zhao to Iroh in "The Siege of the North, Part 1".

Proposed replacement #2

"The Water Tribe can try to resist the inevitable, but their city will fall today."
Zhao in "The Siege of the North, Part 1".

Proposed replacement #3

"But the Ocean and Moon gave up their immortality to become a part of our world – and now they will face the consequences!"
Zhao to Iroh in "The Siege of the North, Part 2".

The current really only serves as a description of the Northern Tribe. With the proposed replacements, you get a much more descriptive overview of the ultimate goal of the siege. Katara and Bolin Fanboy Send me a messenger hawk Katara Sprite Season 3Bolin sprite 14:13, July 30, 2012 (UTC)

Approved for discussion. Dcasawang1wall 14:23, July 30, 2012 (UTC)
I, for one, support the current. At the least, it has a description on the tough battle that will be faced on both sides, due to not only the determination of both sides but also upon the major tactical considerations of Water Tribe's natural and artificial defences. From the quote, Zhao is also implied to be one of the major commanders planning the strategy.
Proposed #1 revolves mostly around Zhao's own ego and really has nothing in the least to do with the Siege except for the one fact that Zhao is leading it, and that the devastation of the Water Tribes is the ultimate goal - already evident in the current.
Proposed #2 is not very descriptive in any way, and is a very generic line overall. KettleMeetPot (wallcontribs) 14:32, July 30, 2012 (UTC)
I support number 2; you're right. The current only describes the city itself, not the siege. Proposal one, like KMP said, though, only really serves as an ego-feeder for Zhao. Number 2, however, shows the general nature of the siege. I would, however, like to see a proposed up there that talks about the ocean and moon spirits and how Zhao planned to murder them. I'm just too lazy to find one. :P Azulazulazula Azula sprite23 20:40, July 30, 2012 (UTC)
I added a proposed #3 showing something just like that. Katara and Bolin Fanboy Send me a messenger hawk Katara Sprite Season 3Bolin sprite 20:45, July 30, 2012 (UTC)
And I, for one, support it. Azulazulazula Azula sprite23 00:13, July 31, 2012 (UTC)

I'm in favor of #2 - short and sweet and tells of the battle to defeat the Northern Tribe. The current conveys the same idea but is lengthier, #1, as KMP stated above, is more just self-praise and #3 is a little vague, in my opinion; it doesn't specifically suggest a siege, merely states that something dire is to come. The Ultimate Waterbender 01:37, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

I like #2, short and sweet, quite to the point. Vulmen (talkEoK) 01:39, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

Number 2 per Vulmen and Unltimate. Eat Cabbages, ...they're good for you... Yangchen-sprite Isn't little Yangchen cute? 19:44, August 2, 2012 (UTC)
Number 2 per Ultimate.  Technology Wizard  Wall  Contribs  17:49, August 4, 2012 (UTC)

Bato

Current

"You have your father's wit."
— Bato musing about Sokka's jokes in "Bato of the Water Tribe".

Proposed replacement #1

"No, it's been separated from the pack. I understand that pain. It's what I felt when the Water Tribe warriors had to leave me behind. They were my family, and being apart from them was more painful than my wounds."
— Bato to Sokka and Katara about a wolf in "Bato of the Water Tribe".

This one has been really bothering me. The current has absolutely no meaning of his personality. I went through every transcript that had Bato's lines and this is the best I could do. It's way better than a line that describes a similiarity between some family. My proposed describes his emotion and care for the Tribe. It shows that he really cared about the Tribe/family; showing his true feelings about that moment; how much he cared; how it hurt more than his injuries. WaterbenderTaikai Bolin sprite 02:10, July 29, 2012 (UTC)

Approved for discussion, and I agree. The Ultimate Waterbender 14:23, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
I support the change too. As has been said, it is a very nice representation of Bato's personality. Icarlyftw talk to me 16:47, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
I support the change as well. The current one shows pretty much no personality in his character.  Technology Wizard  Wall  Contribs  17:49, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
Agreed, per the above points. KettleMeetPot (wallcontribs) 14:34, July 30, 2012 (UTC)
There's simply no way I could say no to that proposal. Especially in light of the current quote. Vulmen (talkEoK) 01:40, August 2, 2012 (UTC)
Proposed per above. Eat Cabbages, ...they're good for you... Yangchen-sprite Isn't little Yangchen cute? 19:46, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

Tarrlok

Current

"That's what I admire about you, Korra. Your willingness to go to extremes in order to get what you want. It is a quality we both share."
— Tarrlok to Korra in "When Extremes Meet".

Proposed replacement #1

"Avatar Korra, I am truly sorry for all that I did to you. I thought I was better than my father, but his ghost still shaped me. I became a soldier of revenge, just like he wanted me to be. And so did my brother."
— Tarrlok to Korra in "Skeletons in the Closet".

I find this quote very well represents Tarrlok's personality and role in the series, becoming exactly the thing he was trying to avoid. It also starts him on his path to redemption for his and Amon's mistakes. --Icarlyftw talk to me 18:52, July 26, 2012 (UTC)

Approved for discussion. Lady Lostris (talkHotN) 08:15, July 27, 2012 (UTC)
I support the chaange. It shows both the things he has done wrong (half of his character) and how he chaanged, grew, and became a better person (the other half), whereas the current only shows the former. Support. :) Azulazulazula Azula sprite23 15:04, July 27, 2012 (UTC)
I oppose. The quotes should show the character of the persons and when you think about it, the current quote fits Tarrlok's character best. During the series he is both villian and ally, tyrant and fair-minded politican, oppressor and victim. His character switches always between extremes, no matter if he acts as a good or bad person. His act of redemption at the end truly was the conclusion of his story and the "right" thing, but also extreme - he kills himself and his brother in a murder-suicide. DyingFlameTsui (wallcontribs) 11:43, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
I support the change for the reasons stated by AAA, in that the proposal speaks of both his darker side and his wish to be a better person. The Ultimate Waterbender 01:37, July 29, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose. The current one shows how he truly was for the entire series, the proposed shows one small moment of redemption, plus, it is a total spoiler for his entire character arc. Lady Lostris (talkHotN) 15:06, August 1, 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for all who have commented here so far. Regardless of your opinions, it is nice to see that not everyone is completely ignoring it :) Icarlyftw talk to me 16:40, August 1, 2012 (UTC)

Opposing per Lostris. A standard was sort of set about the "no spoiler" thing during a PQC for episode 2-111, and that quote does give away a bit too much. Plus, it really is not a match for his majority personality. Katara and Bolin Fanboy Send me a messenger hawk Katara Sprite Season 3Bolin sprite 16:43, August 1, 2012 (UTC)

Tea

Current

"Iroh: Euch! This tea is nothing more than hot leaf juice! Zuko: Uncle, that's what all tea is. Iroh: How could a member of my own family say something so horrible?"
Iroh and Zuko in "City of Walls and Secrets".

Proposed replacement #1

"Sick of tea? That's like being sick of breathing!"
Iroh in "City of Walls and Secrets".

First off, I'm pretty sure that the current quote is from The Drill, not CoWaS, as it says. However, the current quote is very long and somewhat more subtle than the proposed; the proposed clearly shows Iroh's love for tea and in much fewer words. Azulazulazula Azula sprite23 22:06, July 24, 2012 (UTC)

Approved for discussion. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Aang Cosmic Toph-DoBS-2 22:10, July 24, 2012 (UTC)
I totally agree with the change. Lady Lostris (talkHotN) 07:10, July 25, 2012 (UTC)
I agree too. The current was a little awkward with the conversation rather than just a straight up sentence or two. The proposed is much better. It's just one line that clearly states Iroh's love and passion for tea. WaterbenderTaikai Bolin sprite 05:54, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
Support the proposal. It's a simple and straight to the point description of tea.  Technology Wizard  Wall  Contribs  07:53, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
I'm in favor of the change as well. The proposal is short and sweet and represents Iroh's love of tea just as well as the rather long joke that is the current quote. The Ultimate Waterbender 12:55, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
