The current says nothing about Tarrlok as a character, just a moment of interaction with Korra. I suppose it shows his manipulative side, but just barely.

The proposed shows his manipulative side, and it says it directly. It shows the motives for all of his actions, and in general well-represents his character. It is a stab at Korra, who is now an enemy of his, while the current is praising her. 76.167.204.201 18:49, June 2, 2012 (UTC)

Approved for discussion. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20210808202057 SOAP 19:17, June 2, 2012 (UTC)
It's good, but I think "There is a lot of things you don't know about me" is better. I'm more attracted to the ominous quote, and he talks about himself only too. 24.19.104.53 03:54, June 3, 2012 (UTC)

The current is a superficial snippet of conversation with Korra, in which he makes this offer. It does not encapsulate his personality (or at least part of it) in a succint manner, and only shows off his impressive orating skill, with which he tries to flatter Korra in a fashion that would make a propoganda minister proud.

The proposed highlights Tarrlok's duality, the superficial side to him which seems (almost) charming with the pleasant and eloquent manner with which he conducts himself with Korra, even after arresting her friends and brutally suppressing the non-bender rally. This is, of course, undercut by his darker, almost manic obsession with getting whatever it is he wants - at this point, it is unclear to whether it is plainly just power or something else - and thus, using any means necessary to pacify the Avatar. Taken out of context, it's not much of a spoiler, as it seems he is almost complementing Korra. However, in context, it is a (creepy) reminder of just how manipulative and two-faced Tarrlok can be, and the quote in-and-of itself conveys his means-to-an-end attitude in both in the literal language, and the context in which he using it - to persuade or force a deal with Korra. It's also probably (in my biased opinion) the most honest, forthright thing he has ever said about himself in a conversation in the series. KettleMeetPot 15:08, June 3, 2012 (UTC)

I find quote #1 suitable and more relevant to Tarrlok because it addresses his mysterious, and newly menacing personality. This quote describes Tarrlok as of the latest episode accurately, and without spoiling anything. It's short, but I like it. It seems to me like Tarrlok's task force is a minor detail in the show that only played an important role in 1 episode, The Voice in The Night. My propsoal, however, covers his recently revealed dark personality. Please take this into consideration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RedRapptor (wallcontribs) 06:55, 3 June 2012

 1. Quote #1 shows more about Tarrlok's personality than the current one, it does a good job showcasing his ambition as well as his manipulative side, drawing the parallel between himself and Korra. The current quote doesn't do much in showing his villainous inclinations, just him using flattery to get someone on his side. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 01:36, June 4, 2012 (UTC)
 2. I think Omnibender was talking about No. 1, not 2. Fixed edit. KettleMeetPot 08:49, June 4, 2012 (UTC)
Right, sorry, my fault. Fixed it in the statement as well. Good catch there, Kettle :-) Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20210808202057 SOAP 08:56, June 4, 2012 (UTC)

I still think that number one is the best. While number two is ominous, and an interesting quote, number one does all of that and beyond. It depicts Tarrlok's personality very well, showing who he truly is. While number 2 is ominous, it does a very poor job depicting Tarrlok as a character. A True Fire Ferret (wallcontribs) 01:25, June 5, 2012 (UTC) PS: I'm the Nony who started this, I made an account.

Uh, there are a few problems with Tarrlok's proposed quote one, that's not what he says ipsis litteris. Very small changes. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 02:29, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
It does cut-off the "See," at the start of the quote. I don't know the wiki policy on this that well, but like you said, it could be important. KettleMeetPot 03:13, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
True, it does cut off the "See" but I don't think that matters much. The way I see it, if it were text, it would be as follows: See? That's what I admire about you, Korra. Your willingness to go to extremes to get what you want. It's a quality we both share.
There should be nothing wrong with cutting out a sentence from a line of dialog, I believe it's been done here before, if I'm not mistaken. A True Fire Ferret (wallcontribs) 03:25, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
Cutting off part of a quote has indeed been done before, on Gyatso's page for example. It was deemed okay then, so it shouldn't be a problem now. I support 1 for now, as that does indeed say the most about Tarrok as a character and that is the whole goal of a quote: capturing a character in one (or a few) sentence(s). Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20210808202057 SOAP 08:43, June 5, 2012 (UTC)

I wasn't talking about cutting the "see" in the beginning, I was talking about the cut "in order" in the middle, and the contraction "it's", when he didn't use it. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 20:44, June 5, 2012 (UTC)

Well if there was a problem, there isn't now. I don't know if you or anyone fixed it, but I checked and the quote currently matches up exactly with what he said. A True Fire Ferret (wallcontribs) 21:17, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
I prefer proposal #1, it says a whole lot more about Tarrlok. Annawantimes (Talk) 19:08, June 7, 2012 (UTC)

Will this be updated? Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 17:57, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

If the quote is factually incorrect, it should be updated. There is a difference between leaving words off the beginning or the ending, but we should not omit words from the middle. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20210808202057 SOAP 18:06, June 8, 2012 (UTC)
As of now, the quote is correct. I checked both the transcript and the episode. KettleMeetPot (wallcontribs) 04:06, June 9, 2012 (UTC)

A different user proposed this above, with the reasoning: "I believe this quote shows Tarrlok's true character. He is not afraid of removing anyone who stands in his way, as seen in When Extremes meet, when he attacked the group of non benders and arrested Korra's friends." Truly Pabu Sprite Ferret 04:55, June 9, 2012 (UTC)

Reason:

Meelo has been shown to pull antics like this and is frequetly doing something like this. Like kicking the broken tool and using an object as a toilet at the gala. This is also a good example of his special aproch. It proves the sub Fartbending is canon like how Aang sneezed sevral times in the old series which involved him flying up and food and mud going everywhere. Please reconsider. Approved for discussion since a more sensible reason was provided.
Oppose. I agree that the quote needs to be changed, but this really is not it. 1. there is no such thing as "fartbending", it is not and will never be canon. If that would be the case, then there would also be "sneezebending" or something and that is just not the case. 2. people only like this quote because he farts, and I sincerely hope that we can have a bit of a higher standard on our articles that showing "fart humor", if it is already worth to be linked to the word "humor". Current:

Proposed replacement #1:

This shows Ikki's personality perfectly. She has a hyperactive imagination, which is shown in the creativeness of the story. She is very energetic which is shown with the lack of breaks in the sentance. And she is very creative which is also shown in her story. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Makorra115 (wallcontribs) This note was added on ~~~~~.

I added another quote, if that's ok. The current and the proposed are both somewhat out of context, and the proposed shows her energy through her impatience, and it make sense without context. If a long quote is what is desired, then I would recommend Ikki's "grand tour" quote.

EDIT: I just added in the grand tour quote.

EDIT II: I've chaanged my vote to proposal #1 per the reasoning below, and have withdrawn my quotes. Truly Pabu Sprite Ferret 23:41, June 12, 2012 (UTC)

The second quote doesn't really portray her hyperactive nature, as she is simply welcoming them to the island as anyone would; the first proposal is an accurate representation of her character and although it's a little lengthy, it seems fine to me. The proposed quote shows that Meelo isn't afraid to protect what he loves just like his granddad Aang. It shows also that he is willing to fight in time of need. It also shows how he is like Aang in a way.

I disagree. While Meelo is indeed not afraid to defend his home, the quote on itself captures less of his random and sporadic person than the current one does. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20210808202057 SOAP 18:52, June 22, 2012 (UTC)
I am not real sure what that means. Maybe if there is one that captures both I will agree on it. Derpyrebound (wallcontribs) 21:26, June 23, 2012 (UTC)
I added another proposal. This quote is the best known quote of Meelo's and is very recognizable. --DivineElement (wallcontribs) 20:10, June 24, 2012 (UTC)
Pro the current still. As said above, "Taste my fury" portrays his willingness to protect his family, but he's seen doing that one time. The current one on the other hand portrays his personality. He is a random, impulsive, way too energetic, and slightly awkward kid. With the current, we have a quote that portrays his energetic and impulsive side "Yeah let's do it!" and his random and awkward side "What are we doing?". It portrays that he does not know what he is doing, but jumps into things anyway.
As for "Be the leaf", what does that quote say about Meelo's character? It does not mean anything. It's not because it's a widely popular quote among some fans that it portrays his character the best. Lady Lostris / 9?cb=20210808202057 SOAP 10:01, June 25, 2012 (UTC)

Still does not capture his personality. Besides, he was not being sarcastic in that quote, he meant it. A quote is meant to capture a character's personality in just one sentence.

What I like about the current quote is that Pema describes herself by saying she wants "a child like her", which she goes on to say is a nice non-bender. However, it's very rare that Pema behaves the way she did when she said this. If someone who had no idea who Pema was and wasn't familiar with Korra read Pema's page and saw her current quote, they would get a different idea of her than ours. I honestly think the current is alright, but I thought I'd put this proposal out there since it really shows how concerned she was about Korra during her captivity, and how glad she was when Korra returned safely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RedRapptor (wallcontribs) This note was added on ~~~~~. , 2012 (UTC)

A REALLY small change. I just cut out the "And apparently they had pretty good senses of humor" from the quote, and replaced it with a "…". I believe you're allowed to do that while quoting. The reason for this is because that part kind of breaks the tone of the quote, and makes the quote loose part of its meaning. If its removed, the problem is solved. Truly Pabu Sprite Ferret (a My Fanon) 06:15, July 3, 2012 (UTC)

Approved for discussion, but I disagree with the change. Although Iroh changes his tone when he says it in the show, it keeps with the general idea: first Iroh says something about the element, then he describes the traits of the people of that element. You could say that "sense of humor" fits in here with detachment, peace and freedom. It's part of the description. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Energy Saga Dragons, Sieges and Volcanoes 18:22, July 3, 2012 (UTC)
