Gyatso

"We can't concern ourselves with what was; we must act on what is."
— Gyatso to Aang in "The Southern Air Temple".
Proposed replacement #3
"Aang needs to have freedom and fun. He needs to grow up as a normal boy."
— Gyatso to the other Elder Monks in "The Southern Air Temple".

The current quote, I believe, too long and is half-way into the conversation about Aang being the Avatar. But not everyone around here has memorized the series, as I have. So I believe the quote should be simplified to just it's "wisdom moment". Please share what you think. Thank you! Matey Y. (wallA:TLoM) 18:02, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

Boy, I dunno. The current is awfully long, the "But" on the first proposal looks awkward, and the second is truncated with no indication that it has been. Maybe we can find another gem to use entirely? DesertDog (wall) 11:50, March 19, 2012 (UTC)

There aren't many Gyatso quotes that show wisdom in general. I think he speaks five times in the series, once in a flashback in which he asks Aang why did he leave (plain creepy). The other quotes you can get are to show his fondness toward Aang, but this is, I believe, the only quote of general wisdom. But if you want one for Aang, I've added option #3. It might not be exactly like that in the series (that's just what I remember in 7 in the morning), but it is at least pretty close. Two sentences that, at least, mean the same thing as it was originally said. Matey Y. (wallA:TLoM) 12:05, March 19, 2012 (UTC)

I'm much more enthusiastic about #3; it shows his fondness towards Aang. Can anyone confirm the exact quote? Unfortunately, I have lent out my copy of Book 1. DesertDog (wall) 13:09, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

I am confirming the quote a) having watched the series, I don't know, 13 times? b) I have Netflix c) I have the DVDs. The first three quotes (the fourth I am 90% sure) up there I confirm. But it doesn't really show his fondness - it is not even mentioned he is talking to Aang. Nor can we include the conversation to where it makes sense. I think choice 2 and 3 are better. Matey Y. (wallA:TLoM) 21:26, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

I'm all for proposal #2. It's shorter and simpler than the current one and one that really stands out from all other Gyatso quotes, for me at least. The Ultimate Waterbender 12:55, March 24, 2012 (UTC)

I agree with proposal 2 as well. Although the third one does show his fondness and highlights Gyatso's father-son relationship with Aang, the second one more effectively shows him as a mentor. And I think that's a more important portrayal of him as an overall character. That quote is also a major theme in the first series, with overcoming failures in the past to focus on the problems of the present. That quote is as good as it can be. Waterbending emblem Water Spout 22:19, March 24, 2012 (UTC)

"Well, Aang, it was very nice to meet you. Very nice."
— Meng to Aang in "The Fortuneteller".
Proposed replacement #3
"It's just really hard when you like someone, but they don't think of you that way."
— Meng to Aang in "The Fortuneteller".

I'll kick this page off with a proposal for changing Meng's quote. The current one is her parting word with Katara, which doesn't really say much of her in general or what her role is in the story. Also, its her speaking to Katara, while most of her interaction is with Aang. My proposed replacement is from the same episode, where she introduces herself to the Gaang, saying who she is and what she does. I think this represents her better. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Aang Cosmic Toph-DoBS-2 22:32, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

While it's not the best quote for her (there aren't many better ones that come to mind) it's better than the current one. I recall that this quote actually was her's at one point... but I'm not sure. I support. Annawantimes (Talk) 00:15, March 22, 2012 (UTC)
The replacement, of the two. I'm going to have to dig out the ep and see what else she says -- it's not much as I recall. DesertDog (wall) 11:43, March 22, 2012 (UTC)
Absolutely not. Meng's character was portrayed as a love-crazed, goofy person. She was remembered for having a major crush on Aang, who liked Katara. Therefore, she disliked Katara. Of course, if someone can dig up a quote that better shows her crush on Aang, I'm all for it. Otherwise, the current stays.
Also, this is Meng's "remembered" line. No one ever forgot it, because it was so out there.Firelordazula signatureAzula sprite23TeeAzula Sprite 00:54, March 23, 2012 (UTC)
I have to agree with Azulazulazula here. Meng was not portrayed as simply "Aunt Wu's assistant." Sure that was what her "position" was, but she is most remembered for her infatuation with Aang and her disdain for Katara, noted at the end of the episode quite clearly. Vulmen (talkEoK) 02:16, March 23, 2012 (UTC)
Meh, she was portrayed more as being infatuated with Aang than resentful of Katara. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Aang Cosmic Toph-DoBS-2 03:07, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

I proposed a #2; it isn't the best, but it does show her infatuation "at first sight". Or we could also use, "It's just really hard when you like someone, but they don't think of you that way." – Natsu11 · (wallNanatsu no Taizai) 05:12, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

I really like what Natsu just suggested, "It's just really hard when you like someone, but they don't think of you that way." That describes her disappointment for Aang not liking her the way she liked him. I support it over the others. Annawantimes (Talk) 21:55, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

I like number three best. Matey Y. (wallA:TLoM) 00:15, March 24, 2012 (UTC)

I like proposal #2 in that it portrays her crush on Aang, which she was very much known for. But I also like #3 because it's deeper and for the reason Annawan stated. I have to mull this over. Edit: I vote #3.The Ultimate Waterbender 12:53, March 24, 2012 (UTC)
I think #3 is good. If trying to get away from the resentment part, #3 it is. She was only jealous of Katara, wanting him to like her instead. Vulmen (talkEoK) 23:31, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

Tenzin

— Tenzin comforting Korra in The Legend of Korra.
Proposed replacement #1
"The key is to be like the leaf... flow with the movement of the gates."
— Tenzin to Korra in "A Leaf in the Wind".

The quote on Tenzin's page is a bit...boring. And it doesn't protray his windom in light. So I suggest this, from "Welcome to Republic City"... This is when Tenzin is teaching Korra about airbending for the first time, and while it's not the best quote, I believe it has more power then the one prior. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chibi Naga‎ (wallcontribs) This note was added on ~~~~~.

I'm for the current as well for now. The quote was taken from the airbending lessen, and although the can be specified in the caption, the quote on itself still doesn't say anything about Tenzin, whereas the current one does that a bit better: it shows that he's caring, and actually wise as well, as that's something that many people don't understand to be okay :-) Lady Lostris vstf (talkHotN) 08:58, March 28, 2012 (UTC)

— Korra to the Triple Threat Triad gangsters in Welcome to Republic City.
Proposed replacement #4
"Got an idea about who I am now, chumps?"
— Korra to the Triple Threat Triad gangsters in Welcome to Republic City.

The original quote is from a Korra that's only in the first 3 minutes of the show. I can't imagine grown Korra saying anything like this. The proposal outlines the whole theme of her adventure. Omashu Rocks (Talk - Crossfire) Bosco 21:13, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

I do not agree that Korra wouldn't say that (as a grown-up). But it would be very hard to get her to do so. So I agree that we need a new quote. And the one you have proposed is very good. I am for the quote being changed now. I do not like it when people say: "Well let us wait till the next episode and see." It takes a few days to make the decision to change a quote and it takes 27 days (from today) for the new episode to air. Matey Y. (wallA:TLoM) 21:23, March 25, 2012 (UTC)
I don't know. I think the current quote portrays her being proud of being the Avatar quite well. The suggested quote was said on an apologetic tone, and doesn't portray Korra's character at all. Lady Lostris vstf (talkHotN) 21:29, March 25, 2012 (UTC)
I think it does. It shows that she is committed to being the Avatar, and that she will do what she must to become a fully realized one. I think it shows her pride in a more mature way. Matey Y. (wallA:TLoM) 21:35, March 25, 2012 (UTC)
All I'm saying is that I find the current quote the better of the two options given. The proposed quote is rather blank, it has nothing to do with her character, it's just a statement of her from when she leaves the Southern Water Tribe as she has had enough of being locked up. The current quote on the other hand portrays her direct, hotheaded nature, which is her character description. There will undoubtedly be better quotes around eventually, but from these two, the current is the best for me. Lady Lostris vstf (talkHotN) 21:39, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

I say keep the current one for now. Like Lady L said, the second quote is a bit blank; you can get a better feeling of Korra's hotheaded, colorful personality from the current quote. The Ultimate Waterbender 22:18, March 25, 2012 (UTC)

Maybe my proposal isn't the best solution, but I certainly feel the quote needs to be changed. It just seems so childish, especially if you know the context of the quote, as it was literally said by a child. User:OR/sig 00:21, March 26, 2012 (UTC)

At this point, it fits Korra the best. And anyway, we're only on episode two, there will be some much more suitable quotes to come, and for now, the current one is the best we have. :) Annawantimes (Talk) 00:26, March 26, 2012 (UTC)

I don't know if I just made something really bad. But I took the freedom to add another proposal, I numbered it #3. I hope it fits. That was the very moment that I felt in love with Korra, actually. Master Ratava 02:01, March 28, 2012 (UTC)

I loved the scene from #3, but I don't think it's suitable to be the main quote. I see myself supporting the current and #2 if people want to change the quote. Lady Lostris vstf (talkHotN) 09:01, March 28, 2012 (UTC)
What about #4, I'm re-watching the episode, and this one fit her personality, and also indicates the she is the Avatar. Master Ratava 23:18, March 28, 2012 (UTC)
I stand by my support for the current and maybe #2. #4 is again a quote you need to know the context about before you understand it and that is not what we're looking for in a quote. Lady Lostris vstf (talkHotN) 11:17, March 29, 2012 (UTC)
For now, I support the current. Maybe a better one will come in time, but the current one seems to personify her quite well, even if she was only four when she said it. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Aang Cosmic Toph-DoBS-2 16:48, March 29, 2012 (UTC)
I support quote #2. I know there have only been two episodes released so far, but there are enough quotes from Korra to the point where we can replace the one she said as a little kid. This is Slash, mission complete! 22:24, March 30, 2012 (UTC)

The current quote is her only line in the series, but is completely unremarkable and doesn't fully portray her character or role in the story. My proposed replacement is a piece of dialogue between Aang and Roku from the same episode, during Roku and Ta Min's wedding. Approved for discussion. I'm against the change. The purpose of a quote is to represent the character in just one line, not to show what was the last thing she said. Well, I could have that quote a little wrong, having not seen that episode in a few months. However, it went something very similar to that (if it's wrong, please correct me.). Anyways, while the current quote is one of great wisdom, it's not exactly one that represents Hakoda's (quite ambiguous) personality very well. Really, we haven't seen much of his personality; but we have seen a large part of it, which is a loving, caring father. With the other quote we don't really understand that all Katara is trying to do is hug him, and he's squirming around. For all we know, Katara could be kidnapping him (unlikely, but still). I agree with replacing the quote. I'll support proposal #1, as it's a stronger showing of her feelings for Zuko, and its at a good, memorable moment for the episode she appeared in. --AvatarRokus Ghost (Message meRead my fanon) Aang Cosmic Toph-DoBS-2 19:28, April 11, 2012 (UTC)
I disagree. Jin is shown to be a fun, free-spirited, really without-a-care-in-the-world character. The proposed replacements, however, merely show her feelings for Zuko, who she seemed to get over quite easily, mind you. For these reasons, I oppose any chaange of the current quote.

@Azulazulazula: In the only episode she appeared in, she's essentially defined by her attraction to Zuko. And where's the evidence that she's a "fun, free-spirited, really without-a-care-in-the-world character?" We know nothing about her. I, too, am sticking with the current. All of the quotes for each of the bending arts ar from that same line, and it is a pattern. However, if we must change the quote, then let's please change the firebending, waterbending, and earthbending quotes as well. 76.167.204.201 00:27, April 16, 2012 (UTC)

The proposed quote, while more descriptive than the current one, is about how to airbend as opposed to the character of airbending. The current one is a much more succinct description of airbending. LoveWaffle (wallcontribs) 11:44, April 18, 2012 (UTC)

Tenzin

"Republic City needs its Avatar once again."
— Tenzin to Korra in "Welcome to Republic City".
Proposed replacement #2
"I have a responsibility to Republic City."
— Tenzin to Korra in "Welcome to Republic City"
Proposed replacement #3
"I have done my best to guide Republic City to the dream my father had for it, but you're right. It has fallen out of balance since he passed. I thought I should put off your training in order to uphold his legacy, but you are his legacy."
— Tenzin agreeing to train Korra in airbending in "Welcome to Republic City".

The current quote has been bothering me for awhile; its just so bland, and it lacks context. It came from a trailer, and we all know trailers can switch words around easily. Furthermore, all three of the quotes proposed explain his deep desire to guide Republic City in place of his father, so much so that he was willing to delay Korra's training. The truth is, we'll probably be seeing better quotes from Tenzin soon enough. Still, it doesn't seem like there's a three week lock period for quotes like there is for profile picture changes, so why wait? Chibi Naga (wallcontribs) 16:51, April 20, 2012 (UTC)

Agreed with three. Although the current one is somewhat a "wise" quote, it A) lacks Tenzin's concern for Korra & RC, and B) Hasn't even been aired yet. Three captures both nicely.Firelordazula signatureAzula sprite23TeeAzula Sprite 00:45, April 21, 2012 (UTC)
I personally like 1 the best, 3 being my second choice, and 2 being my last choice. I think that 1 really shows what the series is about, Korra protecting the once peaceful city. 3 shows that Korra is suited to be the next avatar and that Aang had a legacy to be accomplished by her and 2 hasn't been revealed in the series quite yet.  Technology Wizard  Wall  Contribs  00:13, April 22, 2012 (UTC)

"You're the Avatar, and I'm an idiot."
— Mako to Korra in "A Leaf in the Wind".
Proposed replacement #1
"I'll figure something out. I always do."
— Mako to Bolin in "The Revelation".

The reason why I propose this change of quote speaks for itself in a way. Mako's main concern is Bolin, and he has taken the burdens of their living conditions, as well of their street life, upon himself. The connotation behind his words shows he's been doing everything to protect his little brother, and it says a lot about this character and his struggles more than a simple quip. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Diime (wallcontribs) 12:11, 22 April 2012

I think this quote better shows his character. The current is very brief and somewhat out of context. I get the proposal, but I don't think the current quote is out of context. Figuring something out, in that quote, is about the money problem, but it doesn't mean that the only thing Mako figures out is money problems. I understand the current quote as him finding a solution to whatever problem or hardship they face, finding a way to get by, not just money stuff. Omnibender - Talk - Contributions 01:16, May 10, 2012 (UTC)
I didn't mean that the current made no sense. I just meant that, personally, when I read it I thought it was a bit too specific of a situation. I sort of felt like it showed he takes care of Bolin, but didn't show how protective he is of Bolin. Yz2907 (wallcontribs) 01:58, May 10, 2012 (UTC)
